a prgoram of contests contributed
to the successful celebration of
the 50th anniversary of organ-
ization of West Huron District
Women's Institutes, at a pipic
held in Harbor Park, Goderich,
on Thursday afternoon, July 6,
under the leadership of Mrs.' L.
A. Scrimgeour, Blyth, district
president. Some 200 members
were present. Mrs,' Otto Popp,
Dungannon, was registrar.
Contests were sponsored by the
various :branches. A personality
contest was so diffie'ult to judge
that no one was awarded a prize.
Colwanosh Junior Institute had
a punching -the -bag contest, which
was 'won by Ola Fangrad, Lon-
desboro, Nancy Hutcheson, Wing -
ham, Doreen Lamb, Colborne
Township. Belgrave staged an
orange' contest, won by a mixed
group; and a trying -on -hats com-
petition was won by a mixed
group -from various branches.
A children's contest, arranged
by Dungannon, was won by
George Proctor, Beigrave, and
Bobby Robinson, Auburn, A ball -
kicking contest was won by
Nancy Hutcheson, Wingham,
Goderich branch presented an
old-time fashion parade, a high-
light of the afternoon, in which
members paraded in silk gowns
of other days. Paisley and other.
shawls, black silk, bead trimmed
with lace, bonnets, parasols, and
many oter articles were worn,
including a "new look" hat made
from a cellophane shopping bag,
trimmed with roses.
Heading the parade were a
"bride and groom," Mrs. Clar-
ence- Sturdy and Mrs. George C.
Ginn, fourth-generation descend-
ants of Elizabeth Sturdy a n d
Thomas Ginn, first white couple
to be married in Goderich'Town-
shiip. The "bride wore white with
veil and orange blossoms, and
the "groom" a silk topper and
cutaway coat. They were enthus-
iastically applauded as they were
awarded first prize.

na P. Lewis, Toronto, depart-
ment superintendent of Women's
Institutes.

on the spacious grounds of Mr.
and Mrs, Peter J. MacEwan,
Goderich, Saturday afternoon,
July 15. Flags decorated the
lawns, and '.prominently display-
ed was a Scottish flag.
They are the descendants 'of
Hugh, John, Christopher and
Elizabeth Sturdy; who came to
Canada in 1831 • and 1832 from
Ireland to settle in Goderich
Township, where theirhome-
steads are now occupied by Ar-
thur Sturdy, Reg, Sturdy, Austen
Sturdy and George Ginn,
George Ginn presided for the
election of officers, which took
place after supper, and resulted

MANITOBA FLOOD RELIEF
As the Manitoba Flood Relief Fund of Clinton is
closed as of July 15 last, we, the Committee, wish to thank
residents of Clinton acrd district for their splendid support.
We are especially proud of the Boy Seoul Troop for
helping us organize this committee.
We also extend our thanks to all organizations;
churches, lodges, schools and business men.
Having collected approximately $2,200 in cash plus
1,830 pounds of clothing and 320 pounds of canned goods,
which have been forwarded to Winnipeg. Such response
is truly gratifying and we are pleased to see that Clinton
again has not been found wanting in case of emergency.
