ed a call to Empress Ave. United

Reid •attended the funeral of
Miss Margaret McDougall in
Wingham on Friday last.
Relatives in' Flood Area
Mrs. Hary P. Simpson, Hen-
sall, • has received word that her
sisters and brothers-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Janes Simpson, Mr. and
Mrs. William Ostberg, and her
brother and his wife, Mr. and
Mrs. David Laing, who reside in
the flood area in Winnipeg; have,
been evacuated from their homes
which were flooded up to_ the
first floor. They havegone to
relatives in the country, They
have left beautiful homes and
have no idea what condition
their homes : are in.
Captured Garter Snake
Bobby Lavery, Bill Kerslake,
Don' McLaren, while out in the
bush Saturday last, captured a
garter snake which they are very
proud of and are going to keep.
Successful Bingo
A successful bingo was held in
the Legion Hal Saturday night,
1 May 20, sponsored by the Legion
Ladies' Auxiliary, many valuable
prizes were given away during
'prizes
evening; the door, prize was
won by Miss Helen Boyle, R.N.,
of .Toronto, In charge of the
affair were Mrs. Bertha Moir,
Mrs. A. Clark, Mrs. F. Beer, Mrs.
William Smale. Bingoes will be
held every Saturday night until
the end of June.
Blyth Minister to Preach
Anniversary services will be
held in the United Church Sun-
day, May 28. Rev. W. J. Rogers,
Blyth, will be guest minister at
11 am. and 7 p.m. Pr. Eunice
Oestreiaher, London, will be
guest soloist. Rev. R. A. Brook,
minister of the church, for the
past 12 years, has accepted a call
to 'Bluevale United Church, and
Bib following ministers will
preach with a view to a call:

in color schemes of pink and
white, and the gifts were present-
ed in a decorated basket of pink
and white.' Contests were feat-
ured. Miss Margaret Sangster
favoured with a • piano solo.
Lenore expressed her thanks for
the lovely gifts in a very fitting
manner. A delieious luncheon
was served, The affair was ar-
ranged by Mrs. Hess, Mrs. Sher -
rift; and Mrs, Walker Carlile.
Presbyterian Anniversary
Rev. D. H. Stewart, Kincardine,
was guest minister at Carmel
Presbyterian Church anniversary
services Sunday, May 21, large
congregations attending both ser-
vices. The guest soloist was T.
Harry Hoffman, Dashwood, who
sang "lie smiled on me" and
"Open the door." Mrs. L. Tib-
erio and. Mrs. C. Kennedy rend-
ered a lovely duett, "Out of the
Woods." The choir for their
selections rendered three stirring
ambers,"O, Worship the Lord,"
"Still, Still, With Thee", "At Even
ere the Sun was Set," with Mr.
Hoffman as soloist. The ohoir
was under direction of John L.
Nicol. Rev. P. A. Ferguson min-
ister of the church, assisted with
the evening service, A lovely
basket of snapdragons was plac-
ed on the communion table by
the family, in memory of Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas Hudson.

Anniversary of Lodge
(By our Hensall correspondent).
Hensall IOOF' Lodge, 223, ob-
served'anniversary services Sun-
day, May 14, and attended divine
service in St. Paul's Anglican
Church, Hensall, Each lodge of
the district was, represented from
Goderich, C 1 i n t on, Seaforth,
Brueefjeld and 'Exeter. Amber
Rebekah Lodge of Hensall and
visiting Rebekahs from Goderich,
Clinton, and Exeter also were
present. The church w'as filled
to overflowing, chairs having to
be placed in the aisles.
Rev. C. L. Langford, rector of
Trivitt Memorial Church, Exeter,
and St. Paul's, Hensall, addressed
the members and referred to the
central link in Oddfeilowship,
"Go, and do thou likewise," and
stressed the fact that the one
object id mind is "service."
• A male quartette composed of
Owen Atkinson, Frank Wildfong,
Gerald and Harold Skinner,
rendered "The Lord is My Shep-
herd," The choir, assisted by
members from Trivitt Memorial
Church, Eketer, rendered ' a stir-
ring anthem, "0, Praise the
Lord"; soloist, ' H, Skinner. Rob-
ert Cameron was organist. Scrip-
ture lessons were read by Walter
Balfour, and Owen Atkinson, .

rooms where a vote of thanks was
