McMiurray spent the weekend in Toronto' and attended the wedding of Mr. McMurray's niece, Miss Dorothy Prescott, to Robert Sparks. Mr. 'and Mrs. Kenneth M. Breakey and son,' Richard, and Mr. and Mrs. Mousseau, all of Zurich, visited on Sunday with Mrs. Breakey's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Corless. Mrs. George T. Jenkins, ac- companied by her cousin, Mrs. A. Weatherwex, Orillia, sailed on Friday last .from Montreal, and will spend the next few months on a tour of Europe. Miss. Alice Holmes is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London, where she has undergone a criti- cal operation , She is making satisfactory progress, although is not able to write to her friends. Mrs. T. J. Aiken, Allenford, was a visitor last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Aiken. Mr. and yrs. Aiken ac- companied her home and spent the weekend in Owen Sound and Allenford. ' R. P. Carter, Montreal, who was stationed at RCAF Station, Clinton, in 1942, called at the Sutter home for a short time yesterday. Mr. Carter is on tour with a number of Presbyterian theological students. Benson Sutter and Elwin Mer- rill attended Perth Presbytery YPU Convention in Mitchell on Saturday, and on Monday even- ing Benson Sutter and Dr. J. D. Moynan attended Oxford Presby- tery YPU Convention in Wood- stock. Mrs. Milton Steepe and son, Gordon, returned on Friday night after spending a few days in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. They report that in a number of places there is still snow in the bush, and ice was still blocking the locks. On their return they were accompanied by Miss Elizabeth Sheppard who will make her home with her niece, Miss Aphra Steepe. ENGAGEMENTS Mr. and Mrs. Edmund A. The president, Mrs, Sturdy, was chairman, Mrs. A. Holmes at, the piano. The opening ode was sung, followed by the Lord's ` Prayer in unison. The secretary, Mrs. Adams, read it* minutes and Mrs. Hanley gave the treasurer's re- port. The roll cell was respond- ed to by the paying of fees. Conveners of committees gave their monthly reports and annual reports also were given. The WI has been asked to help serve sandwiches and chocolate milk at the Health Clinic on May 10, when more than 100 crippled children were to be attended by physicians. Mrs. Hanley and Mrs. Tyndall were appointed to. ar- range for same. Ways end means of making money in Old Home Week for Institute work was discussed, among which is a monogram quilt, to be made. A committee was appointed' to pack a bale of clothing for over- seas, Mrs: Fear to convene same. A committee also was appointed to arrange for a proposed bus tour early in June. The finance . committee is to arrange for a booth at Spring Fair. The date of the West Huron District 50th anniversary picnic in Goderich on July 6, was dis- cussed. Mrs. Fear gave a humorous reading. Winners in a recent card party held by the Institute, were: euchre—Mrs. W. Colcloug'h and James Johnson; consolation, Mrs. H. Snell and Mr. R. Plum - steel; "500" --Mrs. D. Glidden. Sturdy; consolation, Mrs. G. Ginn, Mr. Walsh. Hostesses, mesdames Carter, Nay, Johnston, Hunter and Jam- ieson, served a tasty lunch',' Mrs. G. Jenkins Feted Prior to Overseas Trip A few of the friends of Mrs. G. T. Jenkins gathered at her home, Isaac St., a few nights be- fore she left last week foran extended trip overseas, an d presented her with a "bon voy- age" shower. Many lovely gifts were given and a most enjoyable social evening was enjoyed. De- licious refreshments rounded out a pleasant evening. Aikenhead, Organist Sunday, May 14 11.00 a.m.—Worship Service end Sunday School, EVERYONE WELCOME Presbyterian Club Plan Improvements: A -good live meeting of Clin- ton Presbyterian Men's Club was held around a bachelor's dinner table, which was amply supplied with a full course meal by Don Colquheun and his workers, who really excelled themselves. Where ever Don's group secured those pies, they were par excellence. The business activities were in charge of the president, Royce Macaulay, and included the de- sire of the club to sponsor an- other sound film for the com- munity, in the near future. The matter was unanimously left with a committee composed of Rev, D. J. Lane, Frank Mutch and "Dick" Jacob. The grounds committee reported vigilance with regard to the necessity of beautifying of the church lawn as soon as con- ditions are favorable. The special program, under Don's direction included a short talk on the history of "Mothers' Day"; a well rendered recita- tion by Ed. Gibson and a timely description of Canadian bird life by Sam Castle, which proved most interesting, and informa- tive. The treasurer, Bob Morgan, gave a splendid account of the finances of the club. Next meeting is scheduled for the week of May 14. Scotch bon- nets are worn by those posses- sing them. Baptist Ladies' Aid Hears Mission Talk The • Ladies' Aid of Clinton Baptist Church held its May meeting on Tuesday afternoon, May 2, at the home of Mrs. Reg. Clifford, with the president, Mrs. A. Forsyth, in the chair. The hymn, "Have Thine Own Way, Lord," was sung follow8H by the Lord's Prayer repeated in unison. Mrs. Forsyth read the Scripture lesson from Romans, chapter 8. The secretary -treasurer, Mrs. Clifford, gave her reports and the roll call was answered. The singing of the hymn "Jesus Saves" was followed by a read- ing, "Peace," 'given by Mrs. Cochrane. The devotional period "Chris- tian Testimony" or "Confession of Christ" and prayer was con- ducted by Mrs. R. Gemmell. Mrs. J. R. Butler favoured with a solo "Living for Jesus" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Aikenhead. Mrs. Aikenhead gave an inter- esting topic on "The Living Con- ditions of the People of India," as written by Miss Gertrude Bon- ner from the Mission Field in India. A short reading, "How happy are the faces of the men who talk with God," was given by Mrs. Clifford. Mrs, W ,Pickett, on behalf of the Ladies' Aid, presented Mrs. Forsyth „with a farewell gift, prior to her departure for Port Rowan, The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction and a dainty lunch was served. 0 PRESBYTERIAN WKS The WMS of Clinton Presby- terian Church • will meet at the home of Mrs. R. Have you chosen yours? 1 1 Sk � f }. i i I R I9 S i Auxiliary Entertains Goderich and Hensall The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion entertained their sister Auxiliaries from Hensall and Goderich at the regular meeting on Monday evening, which was held in the Legion Hall. As the ladies were gath- ering, Miss Viola Fraser and Mrs. W. E. Perdue favoured with accordian and piano numbers. The president, Mrs. R, Mee - Donald, was in the chair for the meeting with Mrs. T. Fremlin at the piano. Miss Carol Gliddon favoured with a solo. An impressive ceremony was held when the charter was drap- ed in memory of Comrade Verna Heard. Recently, donations have been given to the March of Dimes, $10, and the same amount to the Crippled Children's Fund. The president was appointed the delegate to the convention in Hamilton. The adopted soldier in Westminster Hospital has been remembered. A special meeting was planned for Monday, May 22, to be held at Mrs. MacDonald's lame. A short programme was great- ly enjoyed which included: two solos by Mrs. H. C.
