Clinton News-Record, 1950-03-16, Page 10a ,e PAM TEN CLINTON NEWS -RECORD STORMS Clinton Must Win Tonight to Survive Tonight may tell the tale, as . far as Clinton Colts' immediate future in the OHA Intermediate "B" playclowns is concerned. Colts lost to Milverton Domin- ions at Stratford Tuesday evening 7-4 in the first game of a new best-ef-three series, so must win the match in Clinton Lions Arena tonight to stay in the running. If Colts are successful, the 'two teams will meet again in a third and deciding match in Seaforth Arena Saturday evening. All games must be played to a finish. If the score is tied at the end of regulation time, the two teams will play a ten-minute overtime period. If they are still dead- locked they will play 20 -minute sudden -death overtime periods, punctuated by ten-minute tests. That is, after the first overtime of ten minutes the first goal scor- ed will decide the winner. Five Previous Games Celts and Donations were all tied up after the former's sen- sational 9-6 victory in Clinton Saturday night, each having won two games and tied one. It was defected then that a further best - of three series would be played. Milvertrin 11 -Clinton 4 Milverton won a commanding 11-4 victory over Clinton at Strat- for Thursday evening last. It was superior speed of Milverton as a team, with Doug and Don Dale setting the pace, which proved the main factor in their victory. Doug Bartliff of Colts matched strides with his fastest opponent, and on one particularly brilliant solo ef- fort he broke through clean, only to fire directly into Ross Gropp's big pads. The game had about everything, and seldom have there been se many shots carom off goal posts. Both goalies looked bad at times and the final count could easily have been larger but for poor marksmanship. Colts 9 -Milverton 6 A capacity crowd and soft ice featured the fifth game of the first series in Clinton Lions Arena, Saturday evening when Colts won 9-6 after a torrid strug- gle. The boys were literally hanging from , the tiafters, so crowded was the old rink. Paid admissions totalled 1,202, and many were turned away. It 'was one of the largest crowds in years. The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period, but Colts led 6-4 at the end of the second, and then ran in a trio in the third before Milverton replied to make sure of the decision. Milverton 7 -Colts 4 Milverton secured a one -game advantage in the series when they took the first game of the new series in Stratford Tuesday even- ing by 7-4. The teams battled on even terms through the piece, and it was not until the last ten minutes that Dominions showed any advantage. Checking was close and heavy, and the ath- letes were pretty tired when it was all Milverton over. 3-2 at the end Of the first period, and 4-3 at the end of the second, but popped in three counters to one in the third. 0 GODERICH WINS G-oderioh Kinsmen copped OHA Intermediate "A" title for this district when they defeated Cent- ralia Flyers 8-5 in Exeter Arena last 'night.
