Pocklington and two children, Peter and Nancy, London, were renewing acquaintances in town on Sat- urday. IVir, and Mrs. Hugh R. Hawkins, William 3, Match and Jahn A Sutter are in Toronto this week attending the Hardware con- vention, 1Vir. and Mrs. W. S. Macaulay, Goose Bay, Labrador, are spend- ing two weeks vacation with the. ladter's mother, Mrs. William Shadclock. Miss Katherine McLay and her Mend, Miss Sandra. Addison, spent the weekend in St, Marys visiting the farmer's grandpar- ents, Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Lancaster. Mr. and Mrs, 3. E. Cook and Miss Helen, and Mr. and Mrs, Charles Cook visited on Sunday with the letters' son and chug- hter-ln-law, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Cook, Ingersoll. George Bayley was able to 15l brought from the Sarnia General Hospital on Friday last and is spending this week at his home, I-Iuilett Township. A very pleasant fam- ily gathering was held at the Shaddock home on Sunday, those present as well as those above mentioned, included Mr. and Mrs. John Neilans, Mr. end Mrs. Clarence Neii,ans and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Joihir Leiper and family, all of Clinton. Baptist Mission Band Hears of Missionary Clinton Baptist Mission Band met in the church on Sunday afternoon, February 5, with the president, Gordon Murray, in the chair. The meeting opened with the singing of "Hark, 'tis the Shepherd's Voice I Hear," the National Anthem, and the repeat- ing of the Lord's Prayer in uni- son. The Scripture Lesson from Psalm 121 was read by Eric Gemmell. Fay Aikenhead, secretary, read the minutes of the last meeting, and gave the roll call, Billy Murray, treasurer, gave his re - Dort, which was very encourag- ing. Bert Clifford conducted a Bible Quizz which was enjoyed by all. Prayer time was led by Cherry Cochrane, A chorus, "Jesus loves the Iittle children, all the children of the world," was sung, alter which Mrs. A. Forsyth gave the topic on the life of Norman DahIs, who was a missionary in India and who was martyred for the cause of Christ, Revelation 2: 10. will be Mr. Dahls' reward in Heaven -"Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Holmes at the piano. The meeting open- ed by singing the Institute Ode, and repeating the Lord's Prayer al' in unison. The secretary read a letter from W. T. Cruickshank, general manager of CKNX, stating that a campeign called "Eat More Eggs," was being launched and asked for assistance. It was decided to co- operate. Several members thank- ed their Sunshine Sister for birthday and Christmas gifts re- ceived. Mrs. N. Tyndall; flower coo - Irene; reported having sent out 53 greeting cards at Christmas to the sick and shut-ins. Fred O. Wilson, assistant age - cultural representative for Huron County, gave an interesting talk on suitable planting material, and illustrated his talk by showing slides on lawn beautification, Mrs. Calvert entertained those present with two humorous read- ings, James V. Conan sang two very .pleasing numbers, "Mc- Cooshla" and "An Irish Lullaby." assisted at the piano by Mrs. E. Bradford, The hostesses served dainty refreshments. 0 The'subjec't of the devotion period was "Knowledge and Be- lief through Faith"; Mrs. Reg. Shipley read the Scripture les- son from i•lth chapter of Heb- rews; "Lesson Thoughts" were given by Mrs, Gatien, and prayer offered by Miss Ida Walkinshaw. The secretary, Mrs. Wilbur Marlin, read the minutes, and the treasurer,, Mrs. W. A. Oakes, gave the financial report which show- ed that 53 members had paid their fees for 1950, The corresponding seoretary, Mrs. Cliff Cooper, read a num- ber of letters of thanks for cards, flowers and delicacies received by the sick and shut-in members of the congregation, •' Reports from the different con - venters were received. From Mrs. Corless for the congregational supper; Mrs. Gatien for flowers; Mrs. Innes for sewing; Mrs. A. T. Cooper far the press. A letter of thanks also was re- ceived from the official board thanking the WA for the delicious supper served on the evening of January 18, Arrangements were made for the St. Patrick's tea which takes place on March 18. A hymn and the MizpahBene- diction. closed the meeting, after which afternoon tea was served by. Mrs. E. H. Epps' group. ONTARIO ST. WMS The February meeting of the WMS of Ontario St. United Church will be held in the form of a' Valentine Tea at the home of Mrs, A. J. McMurray, on Tues- day, February 14, at 2.30 p.m. Roll call subject will be "Faith.' There will be an interesting pro- gramme and the chapter in the Study Book will be taken by Miss Hattie Courtice. The Auxiliary will be in charge of the tea. Ontario St. WA Hears Talk on Overseas Trip The WA of Ontario St United Church met on Tuesday, February 7, with the president, Mrs. C. Verner, in the chair. The meet- ing opened by singing a hymn, followed by reading Psalm 708 alternately and the repeating of the Lord's Prayer hi unison. Devotions were taken by Mrs Townsend who chose as her topic " IKney ledge and Belief Through Faith." Two hymns were sung .and the period closed with prayer. The minutes of the lest meet- ing were read and several re- ports were givens: A piano solo was rendered by Mrs. E. Radford which was much enjoyed. Miss Margaret IVa ier, of the CIDCI staff, gave a very pleasing talk on her trip oveeseas. The meeting closed with the singing of a hymn and the repeat- ing of the Mizpah Benediction. The president, Mrs. Shad jock, smoke a few words of regret at the passing of Mrs. Twitchell, honorary president of the society, and a few minutes silence was observed in memory of her and the to the society right up to the valued service she eentribut- itime of her death. A hymn was sung and the president read the 1146th Psalm and offered prayer. Mrs. Maxwell read the secre- tary's and treasurer's reports. The committees named for the bazaar to be held in the Town Hall on June 3 were: Afternoon tea, Mrs. McTaggart, Mrs. Nott; aprons. Mrs. Roberton, Mrs. Snid- er; baking, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Cud - more, Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. Hall, Mrs. McKenzie; novelty, Mrs. McEwen, Miss Sha -w; candy, two members of the Girls' Club. The March meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. D. J. Laine, and Mrs, Roberton and Snider will be hostesses, Mrs. W. S. Macaulay (nee Helen Shaddock), Goose Bay. Labrador, was a visitor at this meeting and gave a brief talk on her recent visit to the Grenfell 1Viission in Labrador. Baptist Ladies' Aid Hears of St. Valentine Clinton Baptist Ladies' Aid met at the horn of Mrs, Lloyd Butler on Tuesday afternoon, January 31, with the devotional period in charge of Mrs. Butler. The meeting opened with pray- er by Rev. A. Forsyth, the Scrip- ture Lesson being read by Mrs. L. Butler, and the roll call and secretary -treasurer's reports. The topic for the meeting was given by Rev, Mr. Forsyth who spoke on St. Valentine, using it as a basis to point out the value of the obscure in .church work, showing that the humble mem- ber can make a very important contribution to the progress of the church. The preeidentl Mrs, Forsyth, was in charge of the business part of the meeting. Rev. Mr, Forsyth closed the meeting with the Benediction. A dainty lunch was served by the hostess.
