Dayment has left for Tier home in Index, Wash., after spending the past month visiting relatives and friends in this community. Mothers' Study Group Hears 'Problem Child' The January meeting of the Mothers' Study Group of Wesley - Willis United Church was held at the home of Mrs, Orval Lobb with Mrs. J.A. Addison In charge. Mrs. Currie read the Scripture lesson which was followed by re- peating the Lord's Prayer. Articles 'which were discussed at the meeting were "Problem Child," "Ideal Home." The meet- ing closed with the singing of a hymn and the repeating of the Benediction. A. contest followed and delic- ious refreshments were served by Mrs. Lobb, Mrs. Hugt11 and Mrs. Grigg. The February meeting will be held at the home of Mrs, Elmer Hugill with IVIis. K. Fowler in charge end Mrs. Wesley Holland and Mrs. Reg. T. Masters, Strat- ford, District Commander, District "C"•, Canadian Legion installed the 1950 officers of Clinton Branch No. 140 Canadian Legion, in en impressive ceremony in the Leg- ion Hail Monday evening. IA', large number of members turned out, including several from Blyth Branch. H. R. Hawkins, 1949 president, olnened the meeting, and regular business was soon dispensed with. An invitation was extended to personnel of RCAF Station who wish to join the Legion. President R. N. Irwin and other officers and executive were in- stalled individually by Comrade Masters. In his remarks he stres- sed the importance of good of- ficers and plenty of voluntary help from the members. "Where do we go from here - are we going to be a progressive organization -or are we going to fall back into a social club," he said. The next five years will be trying ones for the Legion. now that the rehabilitation work of the Legion is slackening off. He urged World War II veterans to carry on, now that World War I veterans are gradually getting older'. J, D. Thorndike, secretary, Zone Cl, thanked Comrade Masters for his visit to Clinton branch. The newly -installed president, R. N. Irwin, spoke, asking for co- operation in the coming year's business. A former president, Dr. H. A. McIntyre presented the immediate past president, Hugh R. Hawkins, with a past -president's pin. Com- rade Hawkins thanked all mem- bers - especially the executive -for their cooperation in 1949, PC William Gardner Leaves Police Force Provincial Constable 'William Gardner, Goderich, has tender- ed h i s resignation, effective February 1. He first joined the Huron County police force in 1939, and since 1942 has been associated with the provincial police force. Mr. Gardner plans to enter the business of his brother, John A. Gardner, known as Gardner Motor Sales, Goderich.
