The service was in the . charge of the Young, People's Union and opened with a symbolic pageant, "The Glad- dening Light, producedwith the assistance of Mrs. Harold .Wise and Howard Locliliead. Costumes were looked after by Mrs. Elmer Hugill, 1VIrs, Wilfred Jervis and Mrs. Norman Holland and the special lighting was the responsibility of Kelvin Jervis and Murray Stanley. The candle -lighting service was, written by R. Benson Sutter, and was presented with the assistance. of Miss Gayle Manning, president of the Presbytery, and Jack Nor- man, local president of the YPU. Ten girls in white robes, with lighted candles formed a cross. These young ladies were those taking part in the pageant, with the addition of Miss Pat Irwin. The Maharajah of an interior Indian province decreed that no wild animals could be killed, Soon the country was overrun by man- eating tigers, lions, panthers and boars. The people could stand it no longer and' gave the Maharajah the heave-ho. The church orchestra played sel- ections at the beginning of the concert and carol singing was in- terspersed with the program num- bers. New Christian Reformed Church Now At Exeter Rev. George J, Hoyterna, North Street, Clinton, last Friday night received the keys to his new church in Exeter, presented by Daan Penninga, member of the Christian Reformed Church con- gregation that will worship there. Rev. J, Gritter, London, who spoke also at the opening of the, Christian Reformed Church here last year, also spoke at the Exeter church opening, taking as his theme, "May peace be within your walls." Other speakers included Thomas Pryde, M,L.A,,; the Rev. H. J. Snell, representing the Ex- eter Ministerial Association and Mayor R. E. Pooley. Built with a seating capacity of 350, and a Sunday school room the basement, the new church is one of 100 similar ones in Ontario, J. Sweitzer, Exeter, constructed the building, with F'. M. Knip, Exeter, acting as Chairman of the building committee T. Pryde donated the cornerstone. Primary I girls gave an acrostic, "December" while prim- ary II girls gave an exercise "Christmas Ifs," The two classes joined to sing "Silent Night," Primary I and II .A boys coin/Ailed in an amusing topsy-turves drill, while primary 11 B boys gave a dialogue "A Different Santa Claus." Junior I boys contributed a sac- red Pantomime "The First Noel," Junior I girls gave a verse exer- c i s e "Christmas Everywhere," while Junior II girls sang "Merry Christmas Everyone." Intermediate I girls sang in a group"Wilhite Shepherd Watched Their Flocks by Night" and the senior girls, contributed a sacred playlet dramatizing the thought that "Jesus is the Light of the Whole World." This was followed by Junior II bays and intermed- iate I boys forming a choir to sing three numbers: "The Friendly Beasts," "The Bible Tells Me So" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Intermediate 7.1 girls sang "Be- hold His Star," while the inter- mediate II boys sang in approp- riate costume "I'm Getting Noth- ing for Christmas." White the orchestra played and. all were singing Jingle Bells, Santa. Claus arrived and distribu- ted gifts from his pack for all the members of the Sunday School, .R Local Women's Christmas Party After the usual opening of the Clinton Women's Institute, the secretary, Mrs. Charles Nelson, read a letter of thanks from the War Memorial Children's Hospital for the $10 sent recently. In appreciation of the sewing machines sent to Korean widows two children's costumes made on these machinesand a scroll bear- ing these widows' names was sent to the head office of the Women's Institute. Mrs. W. Colclough offered to he the one to count the number of cups of tea she could make out of a half pound given to her for research, Rev. D. J. Lane gave a Christ- mas message in story form. Mrs. C. Nelson read the poem "Let's Keep Christ in Christmas. Mrs. M. Wiltse spoke of Christ- mas customs of all lands. , Dif- ferent ladies in the audience took part. Santa interrupted at this point and the gifts were distributed by use of the roll call, ' After Christ- mas carols, the meeting closed with "God Save. the Queen", and a Christmasy lunch was served under the direction of Mrs. N. Carter, convener.
