Crop Report

Fifteen applications have gone
in from Huron County for the
winter short courses at OAC.
Fall meetings and banquets of
farm organizations have been well
attended. Christmas concerts and
parties are now the order of the
day in rural eomariunities.
Christmas turkeys are in plenti-
ful supply. A Blyth 'area grower
this week. shipped 4,000 ,birds to
Northern Ontario.
Two farm management associa-
tions, one in each of north and
south Huron were organized dur-
ing last week with 30 and 23 mem-
bers respectively.

Federation Strongly Endorses Use
Of Butter In Public Institutions
Directors of the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture, meet-
ing in the agricultural offi%'e board
rooms, Clinton, endorsed is resolu-
tion requesting that all public in-
stitutionsin the county use dairy
products exclusively,

Bluegale,' stated that the resolu-
tion was subintited from the Hu-
ron County Farm, Forum rally re-
cently held at Blyth which pro-
tested , against margarine being
used in a public institutions within
the county: All public institutions
as well as the Huron County
Council will receive a copy of the
resolution as endorsed by the
Federation.
The Federation will call a meet-
ing of all dairy groups within the
county for the purposeof prepar-
ing a brief on the needs of the
dairy industry, which will be pre-
sented .to. the Dominion Member
of Parliament prior to the January
session of ,the House of Commons.
The brief will deal with tariff
protection against New Zealand
imports, and the support price
for butter.
Plan Leadership Course
With the president, Douglas Mc-
Neil, RR 6, Goderich, presiding,.
the meettig decided to hold a
leadership `training course for all
Farm organizations, in condunetton
with the Federation's January
meeting. Mr. Greig was instruct-
ed to organize a series of Federa-
tion iiaformation meetings through-
out Huron County the second
week of January.
Again the Federation will con-
tribute grants 'of $125 to Juniors
attending the OAC short course at
GU,elph the first week in January,
as well as pay the expenses of
three delegates from the Federa-
tion to attend the farm economics
course held at the same time at
the OAC.
Directors approved that $2,500
be forwarded to the Ontario Fed.,

Mrs. Washington opened the
meeting with a Christmas verse
followed by the call to worship.
Several carols were sung after
which Mrs. Toll read the Bible
readings. This was followed by
meditations with Mrs. H. Webbs -
ter, Mrs. K. McDougall, Mrs. Will-
iam Dodds, Jr. and Mrs. E. Wight -
man taking part. Mrs. Washing-
ton led in prayer especially ment-
ioning three valued church mem-
bers in hospitals, Mrs. A. Camp-
bell, Mrs. 0. E. Errant and Char-
les Scott. •
A trio was sung by Mrs. W. J.
Craig, Mrs. S. MhClinchey and
Mrs. F. Platter with Miss Sadie
Carter at the piano. A reading

followed by a medley of Christ-
mus Carols . played by Mrs. N.
Wight -nen. Another carol was
sung.
Mrs. Washington introduced the
guest speaker, Miss Sybil Court -
ice, Clinton, who gave the Christ-
mas message relating many
Christmas experiences she had' as
a missionary in Japan. Mrs, F.
Toll was presented with a life
membership certificate and pin.
The vice-president, Mrs. S. Mc-
Clinchey took charge of the busin-
ess period. The secretary's re-
port, thank -you notes and treas-
urer's report were read. It was
decided to send Christmas boxes
to shut-ins and a committee (Mrs.
Mogridge and Mrs. W. Straugh-
an) was appointed to pack them.

following slate of officers for

It is hoped everyone will come out

A meeting of the ratepayer& of
the village was held in the Library
Friday night to hear reports -and
elect ,trustees. Some new side-
walks had been laid during, the
year. The trustees, R. D. Munro,
Bert Craig and William J. Craig,
were re-elected. The Clerk is
Donald Fowler.

impressive Christmas message.
An instrumental was given by
Mrs. J. Houston and a reading by
Mrs. Alvin Letheriand. The treas-
urer's report showed that the al-
location had been reached.
The meeting closed with hymn
"Silent Night, Holy Night" and
prayer by Mrs. Good.
Refreshments were served by
Mss. Good, Mrs. Gordon Dobie and
Mrs. Frank Raithby, and a social
half hour enjoyed.
