Kenneth, -Ashton, University of Western Ontario, London, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ashton. McMurray returned to his home last Thursday, where he is convalescing after' five weeks in Victoria Hospital, London. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Miller and family, Woodbridge, spent the weekend with their parents, W. J. Miller and Mr. and Mrs, C. D. Connell. Gordon W. Harwood and son, George, Toronto, were weekend visitors with the former's son-in- law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Benson Sutter. Mr, and Mrs. Glenn Lockhart and family, Owen Sound, spent the weekend, with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Lockhart and Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Cameron. Dr. Jackson,'. Goderich, was a visitor in town on Sunday, and had a nice visit with his aunt, Mrs. John Peel, Buffalo, who was visiting in town for several days; Mrs, John Peel, Buffalo, form- erly ;Edna Jackson, was a visitor M town for a few days with her. sister-in-law, Mrs. Ernie Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. James Liver- more, King Street. Mr. and Mrs. William Andrews, Toronto, were weekend guests with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Andrews. On Fri- day last Mr. Andrews received his Master of Science degree at the convocation of University of Western Ontario, and his parents were in London for this occasion. SteeP _Sutherb r Mothers' Group At Wesley -Willis The ' October meeting of the Wesley- Willis • Mothers`, Study Group was held at the home of Mrs, . William Murch, Mrs. F. Mil- ler opened the meeting by reading a - short; poem` entitled, "Making Home More Pleasant". Hymn 400; "Fight the Good. Fight with, All Thy Might" was sung followed by prayer by Mrs. W. Jervis. The Scripture,. Psalm 121 was read by, Mrs. 'E. Cooper. Mrs. W. Jervis conducted the business meeting. Mrs. L. Haugh- ton read the minutes of the Sep- tember meeting and Mrs Bagnall gave the treasurer's report. It was decided to send a bale to Mrs. Sloman before Christmas, includ- ing used clothing and a new lay- ette, Mrs. P. Livermore .moved and Mrs. Billy Handy seconded to buy flannelette for the layette from the bazaar money, Mrs. G. Wise and Mrs, Bagnall will do the purchasing, cutting out and. dist- ributing. The marriage ceremony, uniting. Doris Jean Sutherby, daughter of Mrs. Viola Lampman and the late IDarold E. Lampman, to Richard A. Steep, son of Edward Steep and the late Mrs. Steep, all of Clinton, was performed by„ Rev. D. J. Lane, at St Andrew's Pres- byterian Church manse, Huron Street, Clinton, on Saturday, Oc- tober 29. The young couple was attended by James E, Gliddon, and Mrs. Douglas Farquhar, the bride's sister. Following the service, and the wedding reception, Mr. and Mrs. Steep left on their honeymoon trip to points east and north. Instructor this year will be El, Silverthorne, Stratford, who has had five years experience, both • in Ontario and in the British Isles. 'I1his is the third year that fig- ure skating lessons have been giv- en in, Clinton. For the past two years it has been operated as part of the Lions Club work, under the direction of a volunteer group of Lions' wives. This year, however, the figure skating has taken on a more organized aspect, since • the Clinton Figure Skating Club has been organized, with a president, Mrs. Reg. Ball. The stalwart support of Mrs. J. A. Addison, Mrs. 11. S. Macaulay, Mrs. E, J. Reynolds, .Mrs. Stewart Taylor, Mrs. Bob Jervis and Mrs. Cameronis being continued how- ever, and the program promises to be even more successful than in the past. First lessons Satur- day morning, November -5- o as well as a good number from the Junior Farmers organizations of this district attended a unique meeting in Walkerton on Satur- day. It was the 'first youth con- ference of the Lake Huron Zone Recreation Council, and is believ- ed to be the first of its hind any- where. About 150 teen-agers registered from Western Ontario, including members, from Stratford, Exeter, Si. Marys, Listowel and Goderich. Four discussion group were held in the morning when, topics dis- cussed included teen towns, church groups, school groups and rural groups. In the afternoon five dis- "Lead On, Oh. A social half-hour followed with lunch served by Mrs. W. Jer- vis, Mrs. Bagnall and Mrs. Wil- liam Murch.. The November meeting will be at the home of Mrs. A. Wise with Mrs. William Murch in charge and Mrs. G. Wise and Mrs. H. Kings- well hostesses. McAdam Hurt In Carr Mishap An accident occurred here at the corner of Highway 8 and Or- ange Streets, on klallowe'en night, Monday, when a 1947 model car, driven. by Lechler McIntosh; 46, from RR 5, Parkhill collided with a panel truck driven by 25-year- old 5yearold Eugene McAdam, Clinton. Mrs. Hellmbecker Services for Mrs. Mary Heim- becker, who had been living with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Lewis, at Clinton, were conduoted in Clif- ford on Tuesday in the Rolufs funeral home, by Rev. Martin Schiemann. Interment was in Clifford Cemetery. She was the former Mary Sch- walm, of Mildmay. Her husband died 21 years ago. Surviving are two sons, George, Mildmay; Harvey, Clifford; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Lane, Mildmay; Mrs. Frank Lewis, Clin- ton; two brothers, George, Sask- atoon and William, Mildmay; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Werlick, To- ronto and ..Miss Clara Schwalm, Guelph. Cow Killed When Struck By Car Rev. Lors Carlson, Hamilton, will address the Huron Presbytery Boys' Rally in Ontario Street United Church, Clinton, on Friday evening, November 4. Mr. Carlson is chairman of the National Boys Work Board and will speak out of his many years experiences as group leader and camp director Rev. A. Glen Eagle will lead the opening sing -song and Dennis Waymouth, Blyth, will lead in games. Seaforth Tyros and Sigma - C groups will lead in skits and work presentation. Ontario Street Tyros will lead the worship ser- vice. The McAdam vehicle was pro- ceeding east along the highway, when the McIntosh ear emerged from Orange Street, and failing to stop before entering the highway, struck the rear of the truck, swinging it around, and over -turn- ing it. McAdam suffered a injured left arm, ,and a "road burn" to his left hand, where it was in contact with the road surface. He was treated at the scene of the acci- dent by Dr. J. A. Addison. Chief Russel Thompson investi- gated, while Constables Albert Shaddick and Clarence Perdue directed the heavy traffic. a County Employees Enjoy Annual Party At Auburn A cow that wandered from a ditch onto Highway 4 had to be destroyed after it was hit by car early Sunday morning. Roger Venner, Hensall, was driving north. on Highway 4 one- the girls make blouses and study and -a -quarter miles south of Hen- wardrobe planning. sall at about 4.20 a.m., when the animal climbed out of a roadside ditch and moved into the path of his late model car. The driver was unable to avoid the animal and the resultant crash brought damages of $400 to the car, The injured animal, whose owner has not yet been identified, was destroyed shortly after the accident. Provincial Constable Cecil Gim- bons, Exeter, investigated. 0 Training Schools For 44-H Leaders The annual Huron County em- ployees' banquet was held in Blyth Memorial Hall when a tar- key supper was, served by the Legion Auxiliary to 170 people. A program was presented with John Berry in the chair. . A sing- song . was held with Mrs. Willis VanEgmond, Clinton, accompany- ing on an accordion. Other num- bers included short speeches by Peter Patterson and members of the Good Roads committee; ac- cordion numbers by Mrs. Van- Egmond and Mr. Henry; solos by William S. Craig, Clinton,' 'ac- companied by Mrs. Harry Worsell, Goderich, and by Archie Mann, accompanied by Mrs. Harvey Brown. Mr. Mama also provided much laughter with tricks of magic. Songs in costume were contribut- ed by the Hern brothers of Kirk - ton, accompanied by their mother; and Mrs. Robert Grumbleby sang several songs accompanied by .her- self on a guitar and at the piano by Mrs. Frank Riley. The committee in charge of ar- rangements included Robert Craig, Joseph Riley, Robert McCabe, and Archie Robb, secretary -treasurer. Following the program, dancing was enjoyed with music by Jimmy Pierce's orchestra. The committee for next year includes James Fitch, Donald Irwin, Robert Ed- gar, and Bonur Farrish, secretary - treasurer. Mrs: H. Filsinger, home econom- ist for Huron and Bruce Counties has announced that training school for the leaders' and assistants for the girls 4-H Homemaking Clubs will be held in Clinton on Novem- ber 7 and 8. Classes will be held in the agri- cultural office board rooms. In Huron the project this year is "What ,Shall I Wear?", in which CLINTONIAN CLUB WILL MEET NEXT SATURDAY The Clintonian Club will hold its November meeting on the 9th at the home of Mrs. George Gla- zier.
