Mrs. F. Townsend was asked to
speak concerning the newly open-
ed 'United Church training 'school
In Toronto. She stressed the need
of more full time workers in the
church and the opportunity for
training yoting womon. for this
work, which is made possible in
this school. She said girls desir-
ous of dedicating their lives were
needed and that the remuneration
for such service was equal to that
of many positions available to
young women in stores, banks and
other beathesses.
The social committee reported
all was in order for the serving of
the Orange banquet this Friday,

building committee that practical -

Entertain At
Thank Offering
On the afternoon of October 18
about 80 ladies were present at
Burne United Church: when the
1Va4sioriary, Society and Woman's
Asseelation. of Bums entertained
Wel, Constance, Winthropand
Londesbore ladies at their fall
thelikoffering meeting.
Mrs. George Carter presided
over the meeting which opened
with hymn 488. The Scripture
was read' by 1VIrs. C. Moon follow-
ed by prayer by. Mrs. Roe. Words
of welcome were given by Mrs.
John Riley to the members of the
visiting societies.

most inspiring address was
given by the guest speaker, Mrs.
Ja T. White. An interesting story
was told of the "Three Princes'
by Mrs. McMichael of the Walton
society. Readings were given by
Mrs. Lorne Lavvson, Constance;
Mrs. Joseph Lyon, Londesboro,
and a member from Winthrop.
Mrs. Eddie Bell provided the
musical part of the program by
singing a lovely solo, accompan-
ied by Miss Ida Leiper. The meet-
ing closed with prayer by Mrs. I.
Tebbutt. A social time followed
with the hostesses serving sand-
wiches, cookies and' tarts and tea.

On October 27,the Burns Church
WMS and WA joint meeting was
-held at the home of Mrs. Randolph
Lowery, With the absence of the
group leader, Mrs. Tebbutt, Mrs.
J. T. White presided.
Mrs. John Riley gave her report
of the sectional meeting held at
Walton, Thank -you cards were
read from Mrs. Wesley Roe and
Emerson Hesk.
It was decided to hold the
Christmas bazaar at the Novem-
ber meeting. Miss Ida Leiper gave
a report of the Bible Society col-
leation. The meeting closed with
a hymn and group two served a
dainty lunch.

froni those who had received flow-
ers during October. Twenty-seven
calls for October were reported
and callers appointed for Novem-
ber. The following women were
appointed to bring in a slate of
officers for 1956, at the December

Final plans for the opening
banquet and the bazaar were
made,
Mrs. M. Wiltse entertained with
some of her clippings which are
always enjoyed. The last thought
she left with the ladies was:

Mission Band
Rally Held In
Auburn Church

The annual Mission Band Rally
of the Huron Presbyterial under
the Women's Missionary Society
of the Presbyterian Church in
Canada met in Knox Presbyterian
Church, Auburn, on Saturday, Oc-
tober 29 with an attendance of
121.
IVErs. Wellington Good, presby-
terial secretary of children's work
presided. _ Mission Band and Ex-
plorer groups were present from
Goderich, Belgrave, Clinton, Sea -
forth and Auburn, and each group
took part in the program.
D. G. Campbell, Seaforth,
president of the Huron Presby-
terial brought greetings from the
presbyterial and told the children
a story. The guest speaker, Miss
Edna Goodwill, Toronto, and for-
mer missionary teacher in British
Guiana, Was introduced by Mrs.
Don Haines,
1Vliss Goodwill took the children
on an -imaginary trip to visit an
Indian boy and his family in
British Guiana. She described
their costumes, their homes and
mode of living. She displayed
several articles that are used in
the Indian homes.
The offering was received by
Ronald Nicholson and George
Beaman, Belgrave and Mrs. D. J.
Lane, Clinton, gave the dedicatory
prayer. Mrs. D. G. Campbell of-
fered the closing prayer. A social
half hour was enjoyed.
GOOD WILL CLUB INVITES
VISITS TO THANKOFFERING
The Good Will Club of Wesley -
Willis United Church will meet in
the Sunday School room on Tues-
day evening, November 8. Mrs,
Norman Holland will be the guest
speaker and Miss Sylvia Carey
the guest soloist. .A. Thankoffering
is to be taken and donated to the
Woman's Missionary Society. Vis-
itors from other women's organ-
izations are cordially invited. Mrs.
Lorne Jervis and Mrs. A. L. Rod-
ges are in charge of the meeting.

Cater For Cancer
Unit Meeting
The October meeting of the
Women's Institute was held in the
Agricultural Office bdard rooms
last Thursday evening. It was de-
cided to cater to the Clinton
Broach of the Canadian Cancer
Society on November 8. The WI
are holding a "500" and euchre in
the town hall.
An invitation was received from
London Road Club for a card
party to be held at the Legion
Hall on November 18 but owing to
a conflicting banquet this date
has been changed to November 15,
Members are reminded to submit
their names for night classes at
Clinton District Collegiate Instit-
ute.
It was moved that the cup-
boards be locked against tres-
paaaers as different organizations
have used and broken dishes with-
out permission or payment. Mrs.
C. Nelson reported on the area
convention at Guelph. District
rally is to he held at Grand Bend
on November 22.
Mrs. Don Symonds and Mrs.
Ernie Radford favoured with an
enjoyable duet. Rev. 11. C. Wil-
son gave a talk on "Public Re-
lations" which was very much en-
joyed. Mrs. Symonds sang a solo.

Has Thankoffering
The Autumn Thankoffering
meeting of the Women's Mission-
ary Society of Ontario Street
United Church was held in the
church auditorium on Thursday
evening, October 27, with the
president, Mrs. W. S. R. Holmes
presiding. She offered words of
welcome to the ladies of Turner's,
Wesley -Willis and Hohnesville
churches.
The hymn "Jesus Shall Reign"
and the Lord's Prayer in unison
opened the meeting. Mrs. A. G.
Eagle led in the devotional period
on "People Across the World who
are in need—and. Now", using
Scripture passage from 1 John 3:
16-21 and the hymn "r Need Thee
Every Hour" as a prayer.
Mrs. D, Symons sang a solo and
Mrs. Treleaven and Miss E. Wiltse
gave a piano duet. Mrs. Holmes
introduced the guest speaker, Mrs,
N. McLeod, Kippen, who took as
her subject, "Why a Thank Offer-
ing" and enumerated the many
things taken for granted for
which people should be truly
thankful—such as health and wat-
er, sight, hearing, speech, the
church, friendliness and fairmind-
edness. She ended with the
thought "If we can live out our
Christian religion as Christ taught
us we shall have a better world,"
Mrs. Aiken gave the dedicatory
prayer and IVIrs. W. VanEgmond
sang a solo "Spirit af God De-
scend Upon Us Now,"
Miss S. Courtice closed the
meeting with prayer and the
benediction.

London Road Club was held on
Ootober 20 at the home of Mrs.
Anderson, Sr., with Mrs. Watkins
presiding
The meeting was opened by
singing "The Maple Leaf Forever"
followed by the repeating of the
creed. The roll call was answered
by 14 members and three visitors.

The meeting was elosed by sing-
ing "God Save the Queen" after
which a delicious lunch was serv-
ed by Mrs. Anderson, Sr., and
Mrs. Anderson, Jr. The November
meeting will be held at the home
of Mrs. Bennett. Hostesses are
Mrs. LeBeau and Mrs. Watkin.

Ready For Bazaar
The- ladies of the ,Protestant
Chapel Guild' at RCAF Station
Clinton held a work meeting last
Thursday in preparation for their
coming annual bazaar, tea and
bake sale to be held on Saturday,
November 19. Many articles have
already been made, including ap-
rons, ehildren's blouses and dres-
ses, as well as toys and novelties.
Bazaar conveners are hoping for
a good attendance, as there are to
be many articles on sale, suitable
for Christmas gifts. There will be
a fish pond far the children, as
well as a parael post booth,
