Huron County
Crop Report
(Ry G. W. MONTGOMERY,
Agricultural Representative '
for Huron County)
"Due to extremely dry condi-
tions fall wheat is slow in sprout-
ing and is coming up very uneven.
"Silo filling is now practically
all completed in the county and
some grain corn has been picked.
Yields of corn for silage and for
grain will be down considerably
below other years.
"Thirteen 4-H Achievement Day
programs were held at five fall
fairs in the county last week. The
survival of some of the fall fairs
depends on how quickly they can
build up their sponsorship of 4-H
programs.
"Over 700 farmers attended an
"Information Meeting" held by
the County Hog Producers' Assoc-
iation in Exeter on Wednesday,
September 28."

Can you picttke-what life in your town would be like without a weekly newspaper? '
You'd have nothing to keep you up to date on happenings right in your own neighbourhood.
If you had something to sell, you'd have to go out and look for a buyer. If you deeded to' buy
something, you'd have to look ail -over town for it.
Your neighbours could marry, have children, or even die, without you hearing about it until much later. `.
Council could pass a by-law affecting you and you might never hear of it.
Plans for worthwhile community projects might never get started for lack of news and support.
And how would.you keep up with the fortunes of the hockey team or the•liaseball club?
Fortunately, your town has a weekly newspaper, a source of local information that
no other kind of publication can replace.
Over the years, Canadian weekly editors have lent their support unstintingly to tnany, a good
"community cause. This year, for the first time, they are celebrating, National Weekly Newspaper
Week, and Imperial Oil is glad to participate in paying tribute to your weekly newspaper.

For most of them, ,it is just a part-
time job. But the success of this
newspaper depends in/no small de-
gree on their loyalty and efficiency.
True, it is not the responsibility of
country correspondents to make head-
lines. But to us, the daily happen-
ings and the comings and goings of
neighbors and friends is the most
important kind of news in the world.
We're proud of our rural represen-
tatives. They carry on their reporting
jobs whilestill doing their everyday
work, whether it be keeping house,
