Gordon Pirie, the famous Eng-
lish runner, failed to break any
record in his race at Exeter yes-
terday afternoon. He covered the
three mile distance in the slow
time (for him) of 14.24.6 on the
newly constructed Exeter cinder
oval. The world record for the
three mile is 13.23.2 and Pirie has
been clocked at 13.29.8.
The fact that all the other com-
petitors were no match for the
British speedster was probably
one of the big reasons that he was
not closer to the world mark.

Final Game
From Juniors
Whitey Malebo allowed just
four hits as Mitchell Legionnaires
completed their series with Clin-
ton Juniors last Friday night with
a 6-2 win. The veteran .left hand-
er was hit hard but he was backed
by excellent fielding especially by
hlh outfielders.
Bill Gatenby led the Mitchell
team with a -double and a triple.
Bert White bit a triple and single,
Mary Shantz led off in the first
inning with a triple for the only
extra base blow hit by Clinton
batters,
The Juniors had trouble fielding
a team and had to call on some of
the old Colts to round out their
team, Bob Draper, Laurie Col-
quhoun, Fred MacDonald and
Harry McEwan all returned to the
firing line for the game.

Huron -Perth Title.
Jim Atrill, strong right hander
should be thetoast of Zurich to-
day. : He brought the first Huron -
Perth title to Zurich in many a
moonwith a nifty one hitter last
night on the Zurich diamond. To
top, off his, neat pitching perfor-
mance he scored both of the
Lumberkings runs and collected
two of the four hits given up by
Bob Stormes, the losing Dash-
wood flinger.
Zurich scored the first of their
two runs in the third when Atrial
singled and came home on Zuy-
bk's ''triple. The Lumberkings
second • run came in the eighth
when Atrill belted a long home
run to drive the final nail in the
Dashwood coffin.
It was a great victory for At -
rill as he won all four garhes for
the Lumberkings in the important
series between these arch rivals.
Zurich will now advance into
the OBA playdowns.
Mitchell Legionnaires took ad-
vantage of three errors by Exeter
Legion Mohawks to post a 5-3 win
in the first game of the Huron -
Perth Baseball League Intermed-
iate "C" finals.. The game was
played in Exeter on Monday.
Mitchell scored three unearned
runs in Monday's win to take a
1-0 lead in the best -of -seven
series.
Doug Aitchison' hurled a four -
hitter and drove in three runs
with a triple and double for Mit-
chell. Bob Meharg, Red Loader,
Don Wells and Jack Elson hit the
only Mohawk safeties.

Dashwood Tigers
Edge Zurich '
With 8-6 Victory
Jim Attrill proved to be no
problem to Dashwood batters on
Monday night as they cuffed the
righthander for six hits in three
innings and went on to win their
Huron -Perth Intermediate "D"
series tilt 8-6. The victory moved
the Tigers back into contention in
the best of seven series which
Zurich leads by a 3-2 margin.
Attrill was the victim of five of
his team's seven mis-cues in the
game and was in trouble constant-
ly.. Heimrich took over on the
mound for Zurich in the fourth
and allowed but two hits over the
rest of the route while holding the
Tigers scoreless.
