Exeter Too `Good
Win Third Game. ?.
By. Large Score
Exeter continued to hold a spell
over the Clinton Juniors in their
game last Friday evening: The
boys from the southern centre
picked up five runs in the first
inning and coasted to :a 12-2 win,
their third in a row iron Clinton.
Threewalks, an error and one hit
were all the, tribe needed in the
first, They added singletons in
the second and third, were, blank-
ed in the fourth, only to "come
right back with five in the fifth.
Clinton scored their runs in tlie.
second and third. Johnny Hart
ieY's triple leadingoff the third
followed by Bod McDonald's doub-
le were the only hits the Clinton
team got.
Meharg and Darling were the
big men for Exeter with ` two hits
each. Darling clouted two lusty
doubles' and Wheeler one for the
only extra base blows the tribe
received.
Wheeler on the hill for Exeter
didn't appear to be too strong but
he certainly had the young Clin-
ton team swinging. •
Buck Bowers started for Clin-
ton and had considerable trouble
with his control. He should im-
prove considerably when he has
a couple of weeks to get into
shape. Rick Elliott took over in
the fifth and finished the game.

The extension telephone has proven its worth in home and
office before this, but stunt man Harry Davis recently demon-
strated a new use for one. Sitting on a tight -rope for 48 hours,
as he did recently at Toronto's Maple Leaf Stadium, can be
mighty boring -at least, that's what he claims. His solution
was to take up a telephone with him. Talking to relatives,
friends and well-wishers kept things from becoming too monot-
onous, he explained.
Dashwood. Tigers Win Two Games
Now In First Place In Huron -Perth
Dashwood Tigers, last year's
league champions, are back in
their familiar spot: first place.
They climaxed a drive that start-
ed three weeks ago when they
were in fourth place by winning
two games this week. Both of
these wins were big ones for the
Tigers. They subdued their two
big rivals Zurich and Exeter.
Mitchell, also tightened up the
race for top spot with wins over
Auburn and Zurich. The Legion-
aires are one point back of Dash-
wood and have two more games
to play. Exeter Mohawks drop-
ped from the first rung with their
loss to Dashwood but they tied
with Mitchell by defeating the
cellar dwelling Clinton Juniors.
Zurich and Auburn are tied for
fourth with 10 points.
West .Wins Huron -Perth All-Star Game;
Rick Elliott Pitched 3 Hitless Innings
men on base, he pitched hitless
ball for two and two-thirds in-
nings. He gave up one walk 'and
one run.
Bob Garon in left field and John
Hartley playing right field and
second base were the other Clin-
tor. players. •Auburn supplied two
players for the West team -Ken
Patterson and Wright.
West ° pitchers, Atrill (Z) and
Geunther (D) ; catcher Jim Hayter
(D). East pitchers, Wheeler (E),
Saxton (E), Elliott (C), Gatenby
(M); catchers, Saxton(E) and Me-
harg (E).
Batting Big Reason
Plate Umpire Gus Boussey prov-
ed himself the most unpopular
man on the field when he called
the Huron -Perth all-star baseball
game in the last' of the seventh
inning. The East team (Clinton,
Exeter and, Mitchell) had tied the
score in the first half of the in-
ning at 4-4. With two out and
one runner on first base, Boussey
consulted the other three umpires
and called the game because of
darkness. The score reverted to
4-3 for the' 'West (Auburn, Dash-
wood and Zurich), as at the end
of the sixth,
There was a shortage of spec-
tators, as well as players at this
year's all-star game, played last
night in Zurich.
Clinton's Rick Elliott was the
pitching star for the losers. Com-
ing in from the outfield, with one
out in the fourth inning, and two

Juniors Lodged
At Bottom of Loop
The chief reason for the Clinton
Juniors present position at the
bottom of the Huron -Perth league
is batting. The team has low av-
erage of .210 and only two play-
ers are batting over .300.
Bill MacDonald, star pitcher is
also showing the way in the bat-
ting department. Bill, has had 48
official trips to the plate with 17
hits to his credit including four
doubles, tnd two triples. He has
been walked three times and has
struck out on six occasions, In
the pitching department he has ap-
peared in 10 games and has struck.
out 106 batters.
Bob McDonald, playing his first
year in baseball is the only other
Clinton player over 300. Bob has
been to the plate 50 times and
has 16 hits for a .320 average.
The remainder of the team are
well below the two leaders rang-
ing from .222 to .069.
