Clinton In Good
Shape; Only. Few
Taxes Are Unpaid
Veteran councillor N. W. Tre-
wartha took occasion at council,
meeting on Monday to point out
the very favourable situation in
which Clinton finds herself, with
regard to outstanding taxes.
At present tire is $6,924 out-
standing, in comparison with sums
nearer $40,000 in two neighbour-
ing Huron County towns. This,
too, is an improvement in Clin-
ton's own record, since at the end
of December last year, the total
was nearly $10,000.
Conn. Trewartha produced the
auditor's statement to disprove a
street -talk rumour that Clinton
ended last year about $10,000 "in
the red". Tire statement showed
a surplus of $4,627.
A suggestion that an auditor
be appointed for 1955, also was
made by Mr. Trewartha, in view
or the fact that no audit had been
completed up to the time that the
present clerk -treasurer, John Liv-
ermore, took office.
