Wednesday, June 15, 1955, at 10 a.m. EDST.
All accounts, notices of deputations or petitions should bein
the hands of the County Clerk not later than noon, on

Nearly 100 Hensall Feeder Calves
At Well -Attended Hensall Spring Show
At the annual Hensall Spring
Show Friday afternoon, May 28,
98 Hereford steer calves wera
shown and sold by members of the
Hensall Feeder Calf Club. They
sold for an average of 22.25 cents
per pound, This club is operated
as :a commercial feature by the
Hensall Agricultural' Society.
• The Grand Champion calf owned
and shown by Pat Sullivan;. RR 3,
Dashwood, topped the sale to Al
Scholl, Hensall butcher for 30
cents per pound. The reserve
grand champion calf was shown
by Marion Lamport, RR 1, Hen-
sall, also was purchased by Mr.
Scholl at 28 cents.
Buyers were present from To-
ronto, Kitchener, London and
points in Huron County for the
sale which lasted slightly ` over
one hour and a half by auctioneer
Duncan Brown, Shedden. Clint
Devlin, chief livestock buyer, Can-
ada Packers Ltd., Toronto, judged
the calves for finish and. William
Turnbull, RR 2, Brussels, well-
known Huron ' County livestock
breeder, judged the members for
showmanship,
The boys and girls showing
calves in this club came from the
township of Stephen, Hay, Stan-
ley, Usborne, Tuckersmith and
Hibbert and ranged in age from
eight to 20 years. Their calves
made an average gain of 382
pounds over the feeding' period
from November 1 until the time
of the Spring Show.
Special Awards
Exeter Times -Advocate Trophy,
donated for the Grand -Champion
calf of the show, was Won by Pat
Sullivan,' RR 3, Dashwood.
George T. Mickle and Sons
Trophy, donated to the Hensall
Feeder . Calf Club member whose
calf made the most gain in pounds
per day over the feeding period,
was won by Bob Broadfoot, RR 1,
Brucefield, who was able to put
520 pounds of gain on his calf in
the 208 day feeding period.

This was the fourth such show
and sale. Each year western Here-
ford steer calves are purchased
and distributed in the late fall to
the members. During the winter
feeding period the boys and ,girls,
attend meetings. at which time of-
ficials from the agricultural of
fice, Clinton, attend and give in-
structions on feeding and manage-
ment, fitting and showing. Jack

and Jim McGregor, Kipper', is sec-
retary of the Hensall' Feeder Calf
Club.

The executive of the Huron
'County Junior Farmers' Associa-
tion with Miss Lois Jones, Clinton,
county president of the Junior In-
stitute, in charge, made plans for
the Perth -Huron • Junior .Farmers'
Association sports day, which will
be held in Mitchell, June 4.
The program will include both
boys' and girls' softball, square
dancing, tug-of-war, basketball,
and track and field events.
Tentative plans were also made
for the annual church service,
which is expected, to be held in
Knox Presbyterian Church, Gode-
rich, on either July 24 or August
7. A bus tripwas planned for
August 31 to Greenwich Village,
and to farms in Michigan.
Vaccination Dues
By General Taxes
The Calfhood Vaccination Com-
mittee of the Huron County Fed-
eration of Agriculture was in-
structed at a meeting of the dir-
ectors to arrange a meeting with
the agricultural committee of the
Huron County Council to discuss
the possibility of having payments
for vaccination made through
township and county council.
Secretary-Fieldman Gordon M.
Greig was authorized to attend the
fieldmen's conference at Guelph.
The executive was named to
plan a county picnic on or about
July 21 at Seaforth.
