read the scripture and offered
prayer,
Mrs. Robert Scott, secretary,
and Mrs: James Makins, treasur-
er presented their reports.
Mrs. D. J, Lane told of the
work discussed at the Hamilton
and London synodical. Sessions
held recently in - Knox ' Church,
St. Thomas,
Brazil was the topic for cur-
rent events, taken by Mrs. Will-
iam Shaddoek.
Articles for the bale were
brought in by the members.

ried in First Lutheran Church, Dayton, Ohio, on Wednesday
evening, May 4. The bride is Phyllis .Ann, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Burton A. Stanley, Clinton, and her husband is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Dohme,' Dayton. The young couple are

May 11, when final 'arrangements,
weremade for the Blossom. Tea,
Mrs, Ray Gibbon presided.

and children's clothing, There
will he a bran barrel.
A delicatessen booth' will again
be featured this year. The dec-
oration. theme will be spring

United Church last Sunday, when

Girl Guide News
:The Girl Guides took part in
a tree planting ceremony on Tues-
day evening, as part of their
work to achieve their woodcraft
badge. The treerplanting was
made possible by a reforestation
scheme being carried out on the
banks of the Maitland River two
miles 'from Holmesville. Plant-
ing of the trees was under the
direction of Mrs. L. G. Winter.
After the planting the Guides
worked in pairs building fires to
pass their fire building test. To
complete the test the Guides
used their fire to boil water, cook
potatoes, make toast, boilwein-
ers and toast buns for hot dogs.
Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Winter treat-
ed the girls to soft drinks.
ONTARIO STREET S.S.
EXECUTIVE MEETS
The regular monthly meeting of
the Sunday School executive of
Ontario Street United Church was
held in the church hall on Thurs-
day evening, May 5; with 21 pres-
ent. The Scripture lesson was read
by Mrs. F. Townsend, and the
study book was taken by Mrs.
Francis Powell. A social hour
closed the meeting.

Eastern Star -Will
Hold Cook School
Special guests of the Order of
the Eastern Star, Clinton Chapter
No. 266, on Thursday evening were
E. J. Mackereth, Worthy . Grand
Patron and Mrs. Ma.ckereth. Oth-
er guests were present from Sea -
forth, Wingham and Stratford. The
WGP gave a very enlightening,
instructive and interesting address
on the work of the Order of the
Eastern Star. '
Plans were made for the cook-
ing school which is to be held in
the public school on May 19 and 20
at 8 p.m.
Prizes including . 30 shopping
bags each evening, plus cooking
items demonstrated will be drawn
for as well as a door prize each
evening and a grand prize the
last evening,
Meeting In May
The Woman's Association meet-
ing of Wesley -Willis United Church
was held on May '5'when Mrs. C:'
Nelson read the Scripture and Mrs
M. Addison gave the lesson thou-
ghts. Mrs. C. Cooper led in prayer.
Various reports were presented.
Twenty-two calls to sick and shut-
ins were reported. Mrs. F. Fing-
land read a paper on citizenship
as connected with WA work.
Mrs. N. Trewartha reported
gratifying returns in the campaign
for cancer funds. Mrs. Clifford
Cooper's group served lunch.
