COUNCILLOR CLOSE NAMED
DEAN OF SEAFOl4TII MAIN ST.
On Saturday, April 23, Council-
lor E. H. Close completed 53 years
as a resident of Seaforth. He was
brought to Seaforth in 1902 by
the band and has taken a promin-
ent part in musical circles ever
since as well as continuing his oc-
cupation as a barber, except for
one year in Toronto. — Seaforth

Mrs.' H. ' A. Lawson returned
home on Monday evening after.
having visited -her son, Harry, and
family in Kingston for a month.
Misses A. Drouin and A. Fern-
ette, Detroit, arrived on Thursday
last to occupy their respective
cottages in the village for the
season.
Mrs. George Adams returned
home on Sunday after having been
a patient in Alexander Marine and
General Hospital, Goderich, since
Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Heard
went to Guelph on Tuesday where
Mrs. Heard attended the meeting
of the • Grand Lodge of Ontario
West, LOBA.

Campbell Home and School meet-
ing, on what to expect when one,
lands in a European country, W/C
Iloodspith passed along, from his
own experience, information on
living conditions, schooling, etc.,
as compared to that which Canad-
ians are accustomed,
The general meeting, held dur-
ing the evening of 'April 21, saw
the sweaters that had been purch-
ased for the school sports teams
by the Home and School.
Best wishes -were passed along
to Mrs. Fraser and Mr. Bonikow-
sky, :members of the executive,
who are leaving for other fields.
After the meeting, light refresh-
ments were served.

Members of the Clinton Women's
Institute met in the agricultural
office board room last Thursday
with Mrs. Mervyn Batkin in
charge, New officers were instal-
led by Mrs. W. S. R. Holmes.

meetings on agriculture, home eco-
nomics, historical research, com-
munity activities and citizenship.
Two layettes were donated by
the organization, and two pictures
were presented to the new Clinton
Public School. Cash donations were
forwarded to the Ontario Crippled
Children's Fund, the Canadian Na-
tional Institute for the Blind, the
War Memorial" Fund, and to the
Clinton Lions Arena. Money was
raised during the year by penny
sales, card parties and a bazaar.
The branch took advantage of
an extension course offered, as
well as a dressmaking course. The
grandmothers were entertained, as
well as the Goderich branch.
Delegates" appointed to attend
the district annual May B1 in Au-
burn were: Mrs. M. Batkin, ,Mrs:
N. Tyndall,` Mrs, D. Freeman, Mrs.
W. S, R. Holmes; Mrs. E. Radford
and Mrs. Charles Nelson.
Members voted to contribute 55

to the District Scholarship Fund.

souri, to visit her brother, Frank,
and Mrs. MacKenzie,
Miss Mildred Fraser who has
been taking a commercial course
in Goderich, has taken a position
in the office of General Motors,
London. She commenced work on
Wednesday.
A. Campbell Galbraith, Connect-
icut, visited his brother, G. M.
Galbraith and wife, "Sylvan
Acres," Blue Water Highway, over
the weekend. Mrs. Douglas Mac-
Auley, Hamilton, was also with
her parents for the weekend.

LaVerne Morgan (former rector at
Bayfield) will be interested to
know that -the first of three
churches being built at various
points by congregations which he
organized was dedicated in Epher-
ata, Wash., on May 1.
Mr. arid Mrs. L. B. Smith and
Peter Peterson, London, were
weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs.
E. A. Featherston and Mr. and
Mrs. R. J. Larson, Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Rowse and Mr.' and Mrs. Glen
Smith and baby Christine, Lon-
don, also visited their aunts on
Sunday.
The Rev. and Mrs. W. S. Outer -
bridge, Mrs. R. H. F. Gairdner
and Mrs. J. B. Higgins were in
London. on 'Tuesday for the first
day of the 68th annual of the
Woman's Auxiliary of the Diocese
of Huron. Mrs. R. 5. Larson, who
accompanied them, remained to
attend the other sessions as dele-
gate from Trinity Church branch.
New Parish
The Rev. B. Carew -Jones' who
has been appointed to the parish
of Bulford Salisbury, Wiltshire,
England, with his family took up
residence in the rectory there on
May 3. Their many friends in
Trinity Church parish wish the
former rector good health and
God's richest blessings for himself
and his family.
Guide Meeting
The regular meeting of the first
Company Bayfield Girl Guides on
Monday evening, under the leader-
ship of Mrs: George Adams, Cap-
tain, assisted by Mrs. J. B. Hig-
gins,
Lieutenant, was a special
occasion. ' It was held at the home
of Mrs. R. H. F. Gairdner.
Mrs. Adams enrolled two former
Brownies, Elaine ,Rathwell and
Janet Reder as Guides and Mar-
ilyn Rathwell received her Guide
Second Class Badge. For
this im-
pressive ceremony, -
our
party marched in and stood at
attention. Mrs. Edgar Rathwell,
mother of Hlaine and Marilyn was
present, and Mrs. Fred Wallis.

Woman's Missionary Society and
the Woman's Association, met. 'at
the home of Mrs, T. J. White in
Londesboro on Thursday, April 28.
Mrs. Harry Tebbutt conducted the
worship service and Mrs. George
Carter read the,. -Scripture.
• The meeting - opened with a
hymn and Mrs, Tebbutt 'gave the
study book on India, followed by
prayer by Mrs. White.
Mrs. White took over for the
business sessions and Mrs. Roe
gave an interesting report on the
Presbyterial which was - held in
Wingham. An invitation to Lon-
desboro Missionary meeting on
May 12 was accepted.
Mrs. Ernest Knox took charge
of the WA meeting in the absence
of' Mrs. John Riley. It was decided.
for the group that was in charge-
of
hargeof the month's meeting would be
responsible for flowers for the pul-
pit for that month. The auction
basket brought $10.
An enjoyable evening was spent
on Friday, April 22, at Londesboro
Hall when friends and neighbours
gathered to spend a few hours
with Mr.' and Mrs. Joe Flynn. on
their, 25th wedding anniversary.
The first part of the evening
was spent in dancing with music
supplied by Harburn's Orchestra.
After lunch the happy couple were
called 'to the front and after an
address read by. Bernard Tighe, a
studio couch and purse of money
was presented by Irvin Dale as
well as numerousother gifts.
Joe and Mabel expressed their
sincere thanks to all and' dancing
was again enjoyed.
On Sunday evening 24 members
of the family enjoyed supper at
the hone of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh
Flynn with Mr, and Mrs. Charles
'Shelton assisting.

Chamber of Commerce will join
the Plensall Chamber on a trip to
Toronto on Friday to interview the
Minister of Highways to speed up
the rebuilding and paving of the
road from Hensall to St. Joseph.
