Officials from the. Depart-
ment of Lands and Forests
from Galt and Toronto met
with the fishermen from
Grand Bend, ' Bayfield and
Goderich in Charles `Toms'
shop on Main Street on Tues-
day eeening. It was a serni-
annual get-together to discuss
rules and regulations, and con-'
ditions for local fishing.' About
40 attended amongst ' whom
were Dr., Harkness, Toronto,
and. Thomas Pryde, MLA, Exe-
ter.

Benefit Program,.
Mrs. LeRoy Poth and Mrs. John
Lindsay are arranging with local
talent for a program of vocal num-
bers, recitations, etc,, with both
children and adults participating.
It will be given in the basement
of St. Andrew's United Church on
Friday evening when coloured pic-
tures of the fishing vessels in dist-
ress off Bayfield this spring will
also be shown. At the close there
will be a social hour. It is hoped
that there will be a good attend-

The president, Mrs, R. H. F.
Gairdner, opened with . the. WA
prayer, followed by prayers said
by the Rev: W. S. Outerbridge,
Miss Lucy R. Woods read the
Scripture. from St. John, chapter
14. Following the usual reports,
there' was a brief business session,
Mrs. R. J. Larson was appointed
delegate to the annual Diocesan
meeting. The rector gave a short
talk on events in the early days of
the church.
At this meeting, theceremony
of presenting the United Thank -
offering boxes was held. When
counted, the receptacle into which
they had been emptied was found
to contain $21. This was received
by the rector who offered a prayer
of thanksgiving after whicii all
joined in singing the Doxology.
Following the closing prayer and
benediction pronounced by the rec-
tor, Mrs. R, H. F. Gairdner, host-
ess, served tea. '

OBITUARY
William IL Baker

Funeral service for William H,
Baker, 81, who died in Metropol-
itan Hospital, Windsor, was held
in Goderich on Monday afternoon,
in the Lodge funeral home, by the
Rev. H. A. Dickensen. Interment
was in Maitland Cemetery.
Mr. Baker, who died after a
short illness, was born in Mont-
real, but. had come to Bayfield
J when an infai'tt, and spent his
early years there with his family
before taking up residence in'God-
erich,
He was a marine engineer em-
ployed with the Department of
Public Works for many years, and
was a member of North Street
United Church. His wife died two
years ago.
Surviving are tWo sons, Mbrris-
on H., Sarnia; Albert M., Wind-
sor; one brother, Fred, Bayfield,
and one sister, Mrs. Edith Crowell,
Detroit.

The pupils of the Stanley Town-
ship schools lastFriday attended
the annual music festival which
was held this year at Exeter.
Service Hours
Beginning on Sunday, May '1,
and continuing until the end of
October, services in the Varna
United Cht4rch will be held at 10.15
a.m, with Sunday School following.
Vacation School
It is planned to hold a vacation
school in the United Church for
junior and younger children, some-
time during the month of July. 'It
is hoped to include children from
the Goshen Church.

WA Meeting
The April meeting of the Wo-
man's Association was' held on
Thursday afternoon intheschool
room of the church. The president,
Mrs, J. Lyon presided and opened -
the meeting with the worship ser-
vice. Mrs, H. flunking read the
Scripture. Minutes of last meet-
ing, and correspondence were read.
by the secretary.
Business period followed,' led by
the president. The program con-
sisted of a reading by Mrs. •B. Al-
len, and a solo by Mrs. C. Vincent.
Mrs. J. Lyon, Mrs. W. Howatt,
Mrs, L. Pipe and Mrs: Townsend
were appointed as delegates"toat-
tend the WA Presbytery at Exe-
ter. The meeting was brought to
a close by a hymn and prayer.
Mrs, R. Riley, Mrs. J. McCool,
Mrs. McNall and Mrs. E. Wood
served lunch. A sale of bulbs and
plants was held at the close of the
meeting by Mrs. R. Fairservice.
