Of The Press"
Hon. James N. Allan, Ontario
Minister of Highways, recently
pointed out that democracy in
Ontario is based on Freedom of
the Press which helpsto bulwark
such values as tolerance, concern
for the unfortunate, and partner-
ship in carrying out the dutiesof
citizenship.
He warned, however, that such
blessings can be lost through tak-
ing them too much for granted,
and he urged more appreciation of
community newspapers and the
splendid service they continually
render °as a matter of duty.
The high standards of journal-
ism in Ontario, he declared, are
OM' to newspaper people operating
under self-imposed codes of ethics
Which put the golden rule into
daily practice.
