To Compete With
Four Counties

Farmer one -act play, ""The Little
Red Schoolhouse", which placed
first in Huron County competitions
last month, will go to Guelph on
April 12, when in the, evening
they will take part in the inter
county competitions, In' which four
other counties are entered.

the former's sistrer, Mrs. J. J.

Mrs. William L. Metcalf left on
Sunday for her home in Montreal
after having' visited in the village
with her mother, Mrs, D. Dewar,
and mother -'n -law, Mrs. W. F.
Metcalf, for the past three weeks.
Congratulations go to Mrs. A, E.
Pollock who on Saturday, March
12 marked her 90th' birthday. She
celebrated the day quietly but had
a special birthday cake for the
occasion. A nephew and_wife, Mrl
and Mrs. Milton, Pollock had sup-
per with her in her apartment at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm
Toms.
Ed. Siddel was the first to get
out to set nets since the river
broke up. There is, however, a
quantity of. ice on the lake which
drifts in and out with the wind,
making navigation rather dificult
from this port. John and, Leslie
Shields and J. Dalton, Southamp-
ton, are staying in the village
while fishing: with Siddel.
CORRECTION •
Under the heading: "Build New,
School At' Bayfield?" in last
week's issue, two printer's errors
crept past the proof-reader. The
brat and most important was the
omission of the word "NOT" in a
statement of the result of the vote

should have read: "S.S. 8, Code -
rich Township voted not to join in.

Bride -Elect

Smith, a bride -elect of next month.
Twenty-one relatives and friends
were present to „enjoy'a happy
evening playing court whist.
Mrs. Keith Brandon and Mrs.
Harold Atwood'carried in the gifts
in a basket decorated in pink, and
informally presented them to the
bride-to-be.. Maxine opened the
many beautiful tokens carrying
felicitations and best wishes,' for
which she expressed her thanks
quite charmingly.,
Mrs,' Larson was assisted 'in
serving refreshments by Mrs. Geo-
rge Reid, Mrs, Keith Brandon,
Mrs. Donald MacLeod and Mrs.
Lloyd Heard.
Miss Maxine Smith, Ed, Rowse,
Mrs. Glen Smith and Mrs. Harold
Atwood (Sarnia) returned to Lon-
don that night.
• St. Patrick's Social .
There was a good attendance at
the St. Patrick's social held in the
basement of St Andrew's United
Church. on Tuesday evening. It
was under the auspices of the Wo-
man's Association.
The Rev. Peter Renner was
chairman for the program which
commenced with a sing -song led
by Robert Welsh with Mrs. Don
Kingsbury at the piano. Catherine
Welsh delighted the aUdienee with
a piano solo. Margaret, Kathleen
and Marian Porter sang "Let the
Sim Shine In", accompanied by
their sister, Anna Porter. Elgin
Porter rendered a harmonica sel-
ection "My Wild .Irish Rose",
Catherine Welsh sang "Danny
Boy". Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Poth
then showed coloured views of
Mexico and the Grand Canyon. Mr.
Poth operated the projector while
MMlrs. Poth gave a most interesting
commentary, They comenced with
views of Hayfield which compared
favourably with those farther
afield as far as beauty was con-
cerned though the scenery was of
a much different type to the rug-
ged Grand Canyon country.
Before showing the return lour-
ney an interval of community sing-
ing was enjoyed, Members of the
WA . serving refreshments wore
headdresses of large green sham-
rocks affixed to bandeauk.

The regular meeting of the Wo-
man's Missionary Society was held
on Tuesday, March 8, The meet-
ing opened by singing a hymn,"
With Mrs. R. Allan as leader- for
the worship service ,on the 'theme,
"Let this Mind be in Yoii". Mrs.
W. F,otheringham gave the Scrip-
ture' reading -from Philippians 2:
1=8 and Ch. 3: 8-16. -
Mrs, G. Burton, president, ,pre-
sided for the -business and read a
poem "The World's Bible", After
the reading af, the minutes and
the roll call thank -you cards were
read from Mrs:' W. J. 'Maines and
the, Souter family. A letter from
Mrs. 'N. ,McLeod, Kippen, was also
read accepting an invitation to be
the guest' speaker at .the Easter
thankoffering service :on Sunday
evening,` April 17: Delegates ap-
pointed to attend the presbyterial
at Wingham were Mrs, R. AIlan
and Mrs, H. Dalrymple.

Indian church was given by Miss
E. Bowey, and. "What of the Fu-
ture" by Mrs. T. B. Baird. The
president closed, the meeting with
a 'hymn and prayer.:,

The C,P, and T. committed of
the IOOF and Huronic , Rebekah
Lodges, Clinton, sponsored a sue-
cessfUl card party in Varna Friday
night. High euchre prizes went to
Mrs. Alex McMichael and J. A
Sutter, Clinton; low prizes to
Mrs, J, Aldington, Varna, and
Frank McGregor. Miss Turner was
winner Of , the special birthday
prize and a luncheon tray and
glasses was won by b, McClinchey.

Tree Committee
A large crowd saw the moving
pictures in Forester's Hall on Fri-
day night sponsored by Nelson
McLarty, chairman of the County
of Huron tree committee. Quite
a number -of_ interesting pictures
were shown on conservation and
reforestation.
