29. The president wishes to have

The World's, Day of Brayer was
held hi the Clinton Baptist Church
with a service prepared by Rev.
Jorgelina Lazada of Buenos Aires,
Argentina.Mrs. rs. John Ostrom was
assissted by representatives from
the various churches in town, in
progress of the service: Mrs. Fred
Hadie, Mrs. W. S, R. Holmes, Mrs.
Reg. Clifford, Mrs.. -D. J. Lane and
Mrs. Norman Shepherd.
A fine inspirational address was
given b`y Mrs. A. Glen Eagle: us-
ing the theme "Abide in Me". She
said that "this gathering is a day.
that is different as millions of
women pray in over 100 countries
over, the world."
Mrs. Ostrom gave a most _ap-
propriate solo with Mrs. E. Rad-
ford accompanying: Prayers were
offered by Mrs. Clifford Epps,
Mrs. Willis VanEgmond, •Mr's.' Ed.
Farquhar and Miss M. A. Stone.
The offering taken at this ser-
vice goes to the Women's Inter -
Church Council for work . in Can-
ada over
andrseas.
Mrs, Harry Ball was in charge
of the March meeting of the
Clinton Hospital Auxiliary on
Monday afternoon, in the. hospital.
In the absence of the georetary,
Mrs. Fred Trott, Mrs. Douglas
Bartliff read the minutes, while
Mrs. A.' J. McMurray, treasurer,
reported. A report of the member -
convener, Mrs. J. A. " Addison;
showed 392 members and the. Bride

A number of bills for drapes and
bedspread material for the new
nurses' residence which is expect-
ed to open on National Hospital
Day,' May 12, , were ordered paid.
A request from the Clinton and
District Chamber. of Commerce for
a cash donation towards the pur-
chas'e of a resuscitator was order-
ed filed for further study.
MY;'s. Ball.reported on the recent
annual: meeting of the Clinton
Hospital Association and apprecia-
tion was extended to the Auxiliary
for its f a i t h f ul,,interest and
staunch support to the hospital
throughout the past.year. A com-
munication from Mrs. Horning,
provincial president, informed the
Auxiliary that in the very near
future, regions ; will be organized
in the province.
- An invitation was received from
Goderich graduate nursesfor a
fashion show in Goderich. Miss
Win O'Neil reported that tickets
will .soon be available for -the
auxiliary's second annual penny
sale, which is slated to be climax-
ed the first Saturday in October.
The afternoon tea, provided by
Mrs. Douglas Bartliff and Mrs.
Morley Counter was poured by
Mrs. Malcom McTaggart, with
Mrs. Walter Newcombe and Mrs:
Rathbun serving. - Mrs. Alex
Haddy and Mrs. W. Newcombe
volunteered to act as a lunch com-
mittee for the April meeting,

Woman's Missionary Society of the

Wingham on Thursday, April 7,

A large group of neighbors and
friends gathered.in•SS 10, Stanley
Township school to, honour Miss
Thelma Baird, whose marriage to
Douglas Jones, Clinton, takes
place this Saturday in Brucefield
United Church.
The short program provided a
piano solo by Irene' Taylor, also
piano music by Joan McCowan:
Mrs. Mac Wilson gave two de-
lightful readings. Mrs. Wilson also
played two selections on the violin
assisted at the piano by Mrs.
Wally McBeath. Mrs. Frank Mc-
Gregor read the address to Mis
Baird.
The guest of honour was seated
in a prettily decorated chair, to
receive her gifts, which were
brought tb her in a child's wagon
all decorated for the occasion.
Miss JoAnne, Aldwinckle, daugh-
ter .of Mr. and Mrs. Yeoman Ald-
winckle, -and Miss Sharon Baird,
small sister of the bride, pulled
the wagon.
Miss Baird was assisted by her
mother, Mrs, Norman: Baird and.
her future mother-in-law, Mrs.
Frank Jones.
Misses Jean McGregor and Alice
Caldwell, assisted by displaying
the gifts on low tables. Thelma
thanked all her friends and neigh-
bors for the beautiful and wonder-
ful gifts, also inviting all the lad-
ies to her trousseau tea on the
Saturday following. ,

mittee meetings of the Board of
Christian Education in the Wesley
Buildings, Toronto.

ed to HMCS "Stadacona" at Hali-
fax after spending his leave at
the 'home of his mother, Mrs.
Ceacilia McKay,'Queen Street.
Mrs. B. Stanley has returned
from Dayton,' Ohio, where she has
been visiting with her.' daughter
Phyllis for the past` 12 days.
Phyllis Stanley is planning for a

Planning To -
Hold Quilting
The ladies of Stanley Commun-
ity Club held their March meeting
at the home of Mrs. John' Mc-
Gregor, with 15 members, 'one
visitor and six children present.
The president, Miss Billy Stewart,
opened the meeting by all repeat-
ing .the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Nor-
mans Baird gave the secretary's
report and roll call
The treasurer, Mrs. Frank Mc-
Gregor, gave her report and the
collection was taken . amounting to
$4.30. Businessdiscussions fol-
lowed.
It was moved 1»' Mrs. John Mc-
Gregor and seconded by Mrs.
Walter Moffat that the club give
$10 to the Clinton and District
Chamber of Commerce for the
purchase of a resuscitator.
Mrs. Eddie. Glen said she had a
quilt for the club to quilt for a
lady in Clinton. It was to be
quilted in the near future. A party
was planned for Easter.
The next meeting to be held at
the home of Mrs. Raymond Cant-
elon when the roll call will be
answered by "an outstanding event
of your childhood.."
HURON LOBA PLANS
FUTURE EVENTS
At the regular meeting of Hu-
ron LOBA in Clinton on Tuesday
evening, plans for members to at-
tend Grand L'bdge to be held in
Guelph early in May were dis-
cussed, It was thought two cars
would be sufficient for all the
members who would be attending.
Members voted a donation to the
Aged People's Home and the Or-
phan's Home of the Orange Order.
Arrangements were made for the
next meeting on March 22 when
the Seaforth'Orange Lily Lodge
will take over the floor work of
initiating five new members.
C. of C. Project
The Clinton sub -division of the
Catholic Women's League resumed
its meeting in the Parish Hall of
St. Joseph's Church on Monday
evening, with Mrs. W. Managhan
in the chair. Mrs. C. Reynolds
gave the treasurer's report and.
Mrs. J. A Anstett read the min-
utes of the Last meeting, as well
as the thank -you notes.
Mrs. A. Sharp, Mrs. T. Flynn
and Mrs. W. Managhan reported
for the visiting committee Mrs.
J Scruton, Mrs. A. Dales and Mrs.
A. Sharp were appointed as a
nominating, committee to bring in
a slate of officers at the April
meeting. Mrs. L. Medd and Mrs.
J. D. Wilson were appointed as
visiting committee for March.
A donation of $5 was donated
tc the Clinton and District Cham-
ber of Commerce resuscitator
fund. Mrs. Theo Flynn Won the
mystery prize. Two new'membelrs,
Mrs. A. Vlake and Mrs. A. Hanson
were welcomed.
The meeting closed with the
League prayer after which a
number of games of pantry ' bingo
were enjoyed.

Club Hears Talk
On Life in Yukon.
The regular meeting of the
St. Andrew's Girls' Club was held
in the basement of the `church. In
the absence of the president, Lil-
lian Cowan, the .• vice-president,
opened' pie meeting with a hymn.
After the scripture reading by Ann
Radley,Winnie Bishop i led .in
prayer,
In the absence'of•the secretary,
Elva Mutch read the minutes of
the last meeting and Verna Mor-
gan gave the treasurer's report.
After a short business meeting,
Florence Rathburn gave' an infor-
mal talk and showed pictures- on
life in the Yukon, which was very
interesting. Mrs. D. J. Lane, on
behalf of the members present,
thanked the speaker.
With the singing of another
hymn,, the meeting closed with
the Mizpah benediction. Hostesses
were. Mabel Harvey, Florence
Rathburn and Ann $haddock.,'`

Hold Cooking
School In May
The regular meeting of the
Clinton Chapter No. 266, Order of
the • Eastern Star, was held on
March 3 when final plans were
made for the bazaar and tea. Also
arrangements were made to hold
,a cooking school on May 19 and
20,• Proceeds of these will go to-
ward the furnishing of a roomin
the Clinton Publiet Hospital when
the part now occupied by the
nurses is renovated. This was
unanimously passed_ by members
present. Lunch was served: at the
close under the convenership of
Mrs. Opal Jones.

Holds Meeting
The Woman's Missionary Society
of Ontario Street .United Church
was held in the church hall on
Tuesday, March 8.
Mrs. A. J. McMurray conducted
the meeting in the absence of
Mrs. Holmes. Devotions were tak-
en by Mrs. W. Plumsteel. Mrs
J. Livermore gave a talk on Temp-
erance. Miss. Elva Wiltse took the
'study book. Mrs. M. Carter sang
a solo. Easter Thankoffering will
be held in April. e

Card Party
A successful card party spon-
sored by the C.P. and T. commit-
tee of Huronic Rebekah Lodge
and TOOF lodge' was held in the
lodge rooms on. February 23.
Euchre and "500" were played
with 'high euchre prizes going to
Mrs. Laura Perdue and Wes Shob-
brook; low prizes, A. McMichael
and Mrs. Barbara Dale. High.

John Sutter; low, Mrs. Ethel Mc-
Pherson and Bert Bowden.

Clinton Lodge IOOF No. 83 will
hold a dinner meeting on Tuesday,
March 15, in the lodge rooms, at
seven o'clock. It is expected guests

Goderich, and if possible the first
