UWO Team To Win
Joanne Castle, second year ,stu-
dent at' University of Western
Ontario, has led the Senior Wom-
en's Basketball Teamof that col-
lege to the Intercollegiate Champ
ionship. , This is the first time
Western has won this honour sin-
ce 1940. Joanne is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Castle, Clin-
ton,
linton, and is a graduate of CDCI.
In the semi-finals staged in Fri
day night, : Western outclassed
Queen's ' by a 49-28 score. Of
those points, Joanne racked up 29.
This led UWO into the finals on
Saturday, against the team from
Varsity.
Again in the finals, Joanne led
the UWO attack, 'hooping 12 of
the points to help make a win of
30-26.
Strong also on the. UWO team is
Ardith Crich, who scored six
points in Saturday's game. She is
arelative of the Crich families
living in the. Clinton and Seaforth
district. •

Zurich \ Flyers and Blackwell
will start their WOAA' Intermed-
iate "B" semi-final series in 'Clin-
ton Lions Arena tonight Thurs-
day. Game time is set for 8.30.
The series will be a best of three
with the'sebond game expected to
be played on Saturday.
Only Five Teams Loft
Only five teams remain in• `the
WOAA r Intermediate series. At
present Orangeville and Fergus
are playing off/with the former
out in front two games to one in
a best of Ave .series. Paisley and
Port Elgin are the other teams
and they are playing their sev-
enth and deciding game • 'Wednes
day. The winners of these rounds
will meet to decide a : team to
play the Zurich -Blackwell victor.

Clinton Lions Boy Scouts won a
challenge hockey match on Mon-
day evening against a team picked
from members of the RCAF ,Boy
Scouts with a close score of -5-4.
Coach Ken McKenzie of the Clin-
ton team ,reports a good game,
especially since the teams each
had only one practice tegether.
David Lamb led the goal -get-
ting for the RCAF team, with two
goals and one assist. J. Barkley
and Wayne Harris totted up the
other two goals. Clinton's Art
Tyndall scored two of the town's
goals, and recorded two assists.
Peter .Garon came in with two
goals, and Rod Hipson scored one.
Penalties were served by Barry
McLaren (tripping); A. Tyndall,
(hooking) and Hoodspith (trip-
ping).
Coaches were F/O King and
Ivan McKenzie, Referee, Paul
Lachaine and linesman, Bob Chap-
man.

The second annual recognition
of founder's night by the lst Clin-
ton Lions Scouts and Cubs, was
held last Thursday night in the
auditorium of the Clinton. Public
School. Feature of the evening
was. a pair of films shown by pro-
jectionist Ken Cervantes, Scout
Leader, one on "Survivors of the
North" and the other on prevent-
ion of fire.
Vieing with the films for pop-
ularity was homemade candy and
popcorn sold during the evening,
and a short program composed of
songs by the Scouts and Cubs; a
piano solo by Christine. Bridle
and a vocal solo by Marjorie
Bruder;
L. G, Winter gave a talk about
the World Wide Scouts Jamboree
to be held in Niagara Falls this
summer, and told of the activities
held in connection .wth. it, This
Is the first time the Jamboree has
been held in Canada.
Mothers' Auxiliary
Mrs. D. Dales, president • of the
Scout and Cub Mothers' Auxil-
iary reports 21 paid up members
in the group. A meeting was held
in at ttpaci1 ghamber on Tuesday
night, and plains were rilede for
home parties, where each member
is asked to hold a card party, or
other evening home entertainment,
and charge guests 25 cents. This
money is to be used to promote
the work of the Scouts and Cubs
in Clinton.

Two teams comprised of bow -
leis from the Clinton Mixed Bow-
ling League played teams from
the Senior NCO's Mess RCAF
Station Clinton this week. 12
games in all were played: six on
the alleys at RCAF Station Clin-
ton, and a like number at Clinton
Bowling alley. The Senior NCO's
came out on top winning 8-4.
L. Bourque scored the . highest
triple with' 779 for the. senior
NCO's. Bert Harris with 767 was
high man for. the local teams.

Mr, Phillips has two sisters,
Mrs. William (Keziah) Humphrey,
St.' Helens; Mrs. Alfred (Eliza)
Tebbutt, Goderich; and one broth-
el:, John Phillips,, Yellowgrass,
Sask. Two sisters and one broth-
er,- have died.:
Mrs. Phillips has one brother,
James W. Medd, Auburn. Two
sisters and four brothers have

At St. Mark's Church on Sun-
day morning, the sanctuary was
adorned with baskets of red roses
in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Phillips
and also the groomsman James W.
Medd, and family who were, pres-.
ent. The rector' Bren deVries,' ex-
tended heartiest congratulations
to Mr, and Mrs. phiilips, who are
among his most faithful attend-
ants, - Mrs. Gordon R. Taylor sang
"The Ninety and Nine," a fav-
orite hymn of the bride of 60
years, accompanied by Mrs. It. J.
Phillips.
Among those who called to ex-
tend congratulations was Mr.
Phillips' sister, Mrs. Humphrey of
St. Helens, who is 86 years of age
and who lest year with her hus-
band celebrated their 62nd wed-
ding anniversary. The youngest

Tom Pryde, Exeter, 'MLA for
Huron, has been appointed to the
three committees expected to fig-
ure prominently in the current
seeder: of the Ontarto Legislature.
The Exeter Scotchman is a
member of the agriculture com-
mitee which will consider changes
in the Farm Products Marketing
Act and the Qntario Food Term-
inal Act. He/is also on the con-
servation and private bills com-
•mittees which will deal with mat-
ters of importance to the district.
Other committees on which Mr.
Pryde will serve are education,
standing orders, public accounts,
game and fish, mining, govern-
ment commissions and health.
