Travel Tuesday
To Visit Seaforth
Members of Clinton Women's
Institute will go to Seaforth next
Tuesday evening, where they will
be entertained as the guests of the
Seaford] WI, M the High School at
eight o'clock. Transportation will
be available, and cars will leave
from the Library Park at 7.30.
• Arrangements also are being
made for the WI members to at-
tend the convention in London on
October 19,. Anyone interested in
this trip should contact the con-
veners, Mrs. C. Surdy or Mrs, A.
F. Cuthnore as soon as possible, se
that transportation may be ar-

Corless. • Mr. Palmer is one of the
staff of the Beal Technical School,
London.
Beverly Aikenhead, Chatham,
visited over the weekend with his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.
Cochrane. Accompanying him was
Gary Bonner, also of Chatham,
who is a near relative of Miss
Gertrude Bonner, Windsor, now a
Baptist missionary in India.
Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Trewartha
made another annual motor trip
through the south-western penin-
sula of Ontario, making a cycle
trip south as far as Dresden via
the Blue Water Highway, and re-
newing past acquaintances. Their
return trip took them through the
Strathroy, Ailsa Craig and Lon-
don areas. -
Ladies' Club Calls
For Quilt BloCks;
Draw Planned
The September meeting of the
Huron Road Ladies' Club was held
in the evening at 1VIrs, Theodore
Dale's home. The president open-
ed the meeting by singing "Listen
to the Mocking Bird", followed by
the Lord's Prayer. The secretary
and treasurer's reports were given.
Roll call was anSwered by some-
thing for the bazaar, Quite a few
articles were taken in. The even-
ing was spent tieing a quilt. Quilt
blocks 18x20 or print or flannelette
pieces are requested for the next
meeting. Tickets for the draw on
a quilt to be held at the bazaar
were handed out
The next meeting will be held at
Mrs. Hugh Ball's home in the af-
ternoon. Roll call "Your favourite
pickle recipe". The lucky draw
was won by Mrs. Bill Holland.
Meeting closed with "God Save
the Queen" followed by a lovely
lunch

Picks Committees
The regular rneeting of the Clin-
ton sub -division of the Catholic
Women's League was held in the
church hall on Monday evening
with Mrs. W. 1VIanaghan in the
chair. Mrs. J. A. Anstett read the
minutes of the last meeting and
Mrs. Clem Reynolds gave the
treasurer's report.
Father Graham spoke briefly to
the members. The following com-
mittees were formed: visiting, Mrs.
J. Scruton, Mrs. Gliddon; lunch,
Mrs. Managhan, Mrs. McGuire,
Mrs. Mathews. Plans were made
for the November bazaar. The
meeting closed with the League
prayer after which a social cup of
tea was enjoyed by all.

CHANGE MEETING DATE
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the
Canadian Legion will meet on
Thursday, October 14, at 8.15 p.m.
in the Legion Hall. Please note

The first fall meeting of the
Mothers' Study Group of Wesley -
Willis United Church was held in
the church parlour on Tuesday
evening, September 28. There were
16 present.
:The meeting, in charge of Mrs.
H. C. Wilson, was opened by the
singing of "Jesus, Thou Joy of
Loving Hearts", after which a
prayer of thanksgiving and the
Lord's •Prayer were repeated in
unison. Mrs. Sage read the Scrip-
ture after which Mrs. H. Wilson
led in prayer.
Mrs. Bert 13oyesplayed two
beautiful piano solos, 'Sweet Bye
and Bye" in variations and "For
Elise", by Beethoven, that every-
one enjoyed very much.
Mrs. VV, Jervis conducted the
business and showed the crih quilt
that has been completed for the
bale. Mrs. N.W. Trewartha is to
be •secretary for the riext few
meetings.
The hymn, "Faith of Our Fath-
ers" was then sung with Mrs.
Percy Liverrnore at the piano,
Mrs. Wilson introduced the
speaker for the evening, Mrs. N.
W. Trewartha, who spoke on a
variety of things ' including the
heart-warming 75th anniversary
celebration in the Holmesville
United Church on Sunday, Septem-
ber 26 and Monday, September 27.
She mentioned the wonderful heri-
tage banded down frorn the fore-
fathers who pioneered this land;
and also a new method of deter-
mining children of college calibre
called "The Iowa test for educa-
tional development", which stres-
ses a child's ability th make prac-
tical: use of the facts he is taught;
and the changing seasons.
A social hour followed, during
which Mrs. Wilson conducted a
game and Mrs. W. Jervis, Mrs. P.
Livermore and Mrs. H. Currie
served a delicious lunch.

Woman's Association rnet on Tues-
day, October 5 in the church hall.
The meeting was opened by presi-
dent Mrs. J. Radford. Mrs. W. M.
Aiken took the devotions using as
her subject, "Giving Thanks", a
very appropriate subject at this
time of the. year.
Business was discussed and it
was decided to catgr to two ban-
quets, one for Rebekahs, and one
for the IOOF at later dates. An
invitation was received by the WA
to visit Turner's WA on October
20, Tickets are being sold for an
evening of colored shdes shown by
Harold Baker. Arrangements were
made for the annual bazaar in
December. It was announced that
Huron Presbytery will Meet in
Centralia on November 3.
Different reports were read and
adopted after which Mrs. Charles
Brown favoured the ladies with
two instrumentals; Mrs. Roy
Plumsteel and Miss E. Plumsteel
sang a duet which was muph en-
joyed.
The meeting closed, followed by
a lovely lunch served by the ladies
of Highway 4 and second conces-
sion Hullett.

NEXT WEDNESDAY
The Clintonian Club will meet
on Wednesday, October 13, at the
home of Mrs. Harvey Jenkins, Hu-
ron Street. Everyone welcome.

Magazine Sale
• Students of Clinton Datrict
Collegiate Institute will launch
their own salesmanship week with-
in the next few days throughout
the school district. This activity
is sponsored by the Student Coun-
cil under the supervision of eouncil
president, Ronald Steepe and the
collegiate staff.
The plan, presented by two pub-
lishing companies and sponsored
b'y the school has proven immens-
ely successful in schools through-
out Canada. It enables the school
to obtain money for many extra
curricular activities not always
provided for in the annual school
budget. Hundreds of schools across
Canada have earned much needed
money to buy athletic equipment,
movie projectors, band equipment
and to finance educational tours
This year Clinton Collegiate has
in mind the purchasing of bedside
lamps for patients at Clinton Pub-
lic Hospital.
Citizens of this cornmunity are
being offered the opportunity to
assist and encourage the high
school students, and at 'the same
thne subScribe by subscription to
Canada's leading magazines'as
well as the best of American pub-
lications.

Hold Joint
WA, WMS Meeting
Mrs. William Bell was hostess to
the Bums' Woman's Missionary
Society and Woman's .Association
on Thursday, September 30: Mem-
bers of IVIrs, C. Moon's group were
in charge of the worship service,
with prayer given by Mrs. John
Riley, and Mrs, Jim Scott reading
the - Scripture verses. The study
book chapter was given by Mrs.
Moon.
Plans were completed for the
Burns' Thankoffering xneeting to
be held in the church on Wednes-
day, October 13, when Miss Sybil
Courtice, Clinton,will be guest
speaker. The societies at Walton,
Winthrop,. Constance and Londes-
boro are invited to this meeting.
Burns' accepted an invitation to
attend a meeting at Constance on
October 5, when Mrs. E, Toll, Win-
throp, will be guest speaker. Miss
Ida Leiper reported a total cif
$42.15 collected for the Bible So-
ciety. • A thank -you note was re-
ceived from Mrs. Glen Carter. The
settional meeting will be held in
Egmondville United Church on Oc-
tober 15.
The treasurer, Mrs. • George
Smith, stated that $46.81 had beep
collected frorn the copper contest,
Myrtle Knox sang a solo, "Will
You Volunteer for Jesus?" She
was accompanied by her:mother,
Mrs. E. Knox. The WA decided to
buy four dozen cups and saucers,
and new music for the choir. The
two losing groups in the copper
contest served a delicious supper
to 40 guests.
