Obituaries
Mrs. Ff+. Shipley
Mrs. Florence Shipley, 85 -year
old district woman, died Sunday
in Clinton Public Hospital. Born
in Oshawa, she had lived hero
since she was married 'in 1893' to
George Shipley, who died 26 years
ago.
Mrs. Shipley* was the mother
of the late Dr. Manley Shipley,
Kirkland Lake, husband of Anne
Shipley, prominent member of
Parliament and former reeve of
Teck Township. Surviving are
two sons, George Shipley, Clinton,
and Detective Charles Shipley,
London City Police.
Mrs. Shipley was amember of
the Ontario Street United Church
here where she was active for
mart) years in missionary'work.,
Mrs. J. 'Washington

Tn failing health for some time,
Mrs J. J. WaShington died at her
horns, lot 25, eon. 3, West Wawan-
osh en Tuesday evening, Septem-
bei; 7, in her 85th year.
She was the formes Clara Jenk-
ins, daughter of the late John
Teekies and his wife the late El;
iza'beth Salkeld Jenkins, of Goder-
ich township
oder-ich'township She tadght for sev-
eral years at Auburn and Iater
was married to Joseph J. Wash-
ington.
She is survived by two sons,
Frank, teacher at iiirkland .Lake,
and Walter, at home; two daugh-
ters, 1VIrs. Amos (Muriel). Andrew,
Goderich, and Miss Ethel, at
home; three grandchildren, and
two greatgrandchildren.

She was a member of Knox Un-
ited Church and the Woman's Mis-
sionary Society.
The funeral was held from her
late residence on Friday•afternoon,
September 10, and interment was
at Colborne cemetery.
Walter Washington

Walter J. Washington, a highly
esteemed resident of West Wawa -
nosh, passed away in London early
Monday morning following a short
illness. •
He was the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. J. 3. Washington, of lot
25,`concession 3, West Wawanosh,
and was in his 55th year. He re-
sided on the farm all his life where
he was a successful farmer.
He was a member of Knox Unit-
ed Church where he served on the'
board of stewards. He also was
a member of Morning Star Lodge,
A.F. and A.M. No. 309.
He leaves to mourn his passing
one brother, Frank, Kirkland
Lake; ,two sisters, Mrs. Amos
(Muriel) Andrew, Goderich and
Miss Ethel at home. His mother
predeceased him just six days ago.
Funeral service was held yest-
erday at his late residence,con-
cession 3, West Wawanosh, and
interment was in Colborne Town-
ship cemetery.
Young `Dutch Couple
MR. AND. IHRS. JACOB ` SWART were married last
Friday: dvening in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Clinton,
by Rev. G. J. Hoytema, minister of the Christian Reformed
Church congregation. The bride is Gertrude, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Vander Heuvel, Oud , Beyerland,
Holland, (her brother KeeS, lives on the Bayfield Road),
and her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs: G. Swart,

Mrs. William Sturgeon, Bayfield;
recently received details; of , the
sudden death of^ her son-in-law,'
Martin RoseIl. He was drowned
August 18, 1954, in the Gulf of
Georgia, five miles from the mouth
of the Fraser River at Steveston,
B.C., while oe a fishing trip. He
was engaged in making sets for
sockeye salmon, As he had not
been fn"good health, it is thought
that he took a weak spell and, fell
overboard while on the edge of
the . giilnetter. The . body was re-
covered four days later (August
21) by a fisherman at Blaine,
Washington.
The deceased man was the son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Karl
Rosell, Smoland, Sweden. He op-
erated the Steveston Taxi, Pre-
vious to purchasing it, he had been
engineer for seven years.,,.on the
Fish Packer "Santa M'a'ria." On
September 25, 1952, he was mar-
ried
arried to Miss Audrey Sturgeon, for-'
merly of Bayfield, who''survives
him. He is also survived by two
brothers and two sisters in Swe-
den.
The funeral service, held August
26, at the Richmond funeral home,
Lulu Island, was conducted by
the Rev. George Johnston who
based his address on Psalm 23. A
soloist sang "Ab}de With Me" and
two favourite hymns, "Nearer My
God to Thee" and "Jesus Saviour
Pilot Me", were sung.
The floral tributes were many
and beautiful.
Pall -bearers were: George Stur-
geon, ,tames Petrie, Dave Goskho,
B. Ono, Ed, Peterson and Alf.
Lindahl.
Following the service, cremation
took place at Ocean View Memor-
ial Park, Vancouver.

RECOVERY FROM HURTS
Robert Tdrvey returned home
on Monday from Victoria Hospital,
London, where he had been a pat-
ient for the better part of two
weeks following an unfortunate
accident that occurred at the Exe-
ter races two weeks ago. He is
making a good recovery at his
home in Blyth. -Blyth Standard.

Awards Prizes
To Huron 4-H'ers
Members of the 4-H Clubs of
Huron County, a'n'd the Junior
Farmers in the county made their
usual fine showing at Western
Fair, London, early this week.
Officials stated that Huron prob-
ably had the largest number of
representatives, of any county,
with 125 young folk taking part.
Other counties represented were
Essex, Bruce, Kent, Lambton, El-
gin, Middlesex, Oxford and Perth.
In the 4-H Home Garden Ex-
hibit, the Kippen Club took part
in Group A. lead by Mrs. Eldon
Jarrott, R.R. 2, Hensall, and re-
ceived $13. In Group B the Moles-
worth. Club, lead by Miss Margaret
McDonald, R.R. 1, Listowel, took
part and received $7.
Huron County was represented
in the inter -county demonstrations,
in which the Ethel Club took part,
lead by Mrs. J. Pestell, lt, R. 3,
Brussels,
Among the Huron County mem-
bers who attained 80 per cent,
those girls who have completed at
least six homemaking projects and
attended 75 per cent of the meet-
ings (receiving $2) were Ann
Haugh, Brucefield; Jean M. Scott,
R.R. 1, Seaforth; Elaine Bell, Kip -
pen; June Smith, R.R. 5, Seaforth;
Bonnie Kyle, Kippen and Marie
Jarrott, Hensall.
In a second grouping, those club
members who attained. 75 per cent,
completed at least five homemak-
ing projects and attended 75 per
cent of the club meetings (receiv-
ing $1.50) were Mary Whyte,
R.R. 2, Seaforth; Muriel Dale,
R.R. 1, Clinton.
Sales of Canada's retail merch-
ants topped all previous annual
records in 1953, aggregating $12,-
092,174,000.

music and' accompanied the soloist;
Miss Margaret Holland, Clinton,
who sang The Lord Is My Shep-
herd" and "0 Perfect Love." •
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a waliz-lengtj�l1
gown of Chantilly lace and nyldir
net over taffeta, with a matching
bolero styled with lily -point
sleeves. Her embroidered finger-
tip veil was caught to a tiered
headdress _set with pearls and
rhinestones. She carried a bouquet
of red roses.
The bride's attendant was Mrs.
Robert Laing,' Cromarty, who wore
a shrimp -shaded, tiered nylon net
and taffeta waltz -length gown.'
The strapless bodice was topped
with a bolero, and she wore a
headdress and mittens in a match-
ing shade. She carried a bouquet
of yellow roses.
The groomsman was Frank Al-
ton, a brother of the bridegroom;
and the ushers were Russell Alton
and Lorne Fell.
At a reception held at the Hill-
crest Tea Rooms, Mitchell, the
bride's mother received wearing
an esprit -colored gown of ticatina,
with grey accessories and a cor-
sage of white chrysanthemums,
She was assisted by the bride-
groom's mother, whofwore a gown
of dahlia -shaded crepe and lace
and; a corsage.of white :chrysanth-
Assisting in serving at the re-
ception were Miss Edythe Beacom,
Londesboroe Miss Lorraine Ferg-
uson, Toronto, apd Miss Mildred
Thornton, Wingham.
Following the reception, the
couple left' on a wedding trip, the
bride travelling in an allegro blue
ticatina ensemble, with a coat of
navy and dusty rose, navy acces-
sories, and a corsage of roses. On
their return, they will reside on
the bridegroom's farm, R. R. 7,
Lucknow.
The bride formerly was teacher
at S.S. 11, Hullett Township, and
last year ,Was on the staff of the
Wingham public school.
Guests attended the wedding
from Toronto, Goderich, Lucknow,
Clinton, Wingham, Loedesboro,
Listowel, and Staffa,

A quiet wedding was solemnized
at Carmel Presbyterian' Church
manse, Hensall, when June 'Ida,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Ivan
Webber, Exeter, became the bride
Of Charles Kenneth Campbell, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Earl' Campbell.
Rev. J. B. Fox officiated.
The bride was gowned in a navy
nylon street -length dress with ac-
cessories in navy and white. Her
corsage was of red roses.
Miss Kathleen Webber was her
sister's only attendant, wearing a
street -length gown of aqua apd
black, with black and pink acces-
sories.
. Her corsage was of pink
roses.
Glen Campbell was his brother's •
groomsman.
For the wedding trip to points
east, the bride' donned a blue gaily
suit with, navy and white access
sories. They will reside in Exeter,
