Does The Job!
Success story? Well, if you
want your advertising to be
just that, then the pages of
the Clinton News -Record will
do -the job for you.
One fair sized advertisement
in the News -Record last week,
resulted in a complete sell-out
of the particular merchandise
offered!
We certainly won't promise
results like that for everyone.
But when the count is in, and
the results of advertising with
us can be figured, then . we
don't mind telling abqut it.
SPOWI1S
BY "HANK"
Although most towns of this
district have almost forgotten
baseball for this season there is
one spot where "play ball" is the
most important sound to be heard.
Dashwood, with one Ontario title
already won, is gunning for two
more. Last Tuesday evening the
Pee Wee team eliminated Otter-
ville and brought home the OBA
championship by winning their
final series in two straight games.
As we go to press the "Tigers",
Intermediate "D" team, who play
in the Huron -Perth, are battling
Ayton in the third game of a best -
of -three series, Both teams won
their home game so the `Tigers"
should have a slight edge with the
clincher being played on their own
doorstep.
To make matters, more compli-
cated, the Dashwood Bantams
have moved into the finals in their
class and are now waiting for the
winner of the Smithville-New-
castle series.
And while we are on the champ-
ionship trail we offer our congrat-
ulations to Auburn's (annual)
champions, Last Saturday after-
noon the Auburn Juveniles won
their third straight Ontario crown
by defeating Beeton 10-1,
Mitchell Legionaires have run
into a snag in their playdowns.
They are waiting for the winner
between Durham and Harriston
and have been idle since they
eliminated Clinton Colts. It seems
rather strange that the officials of
the OBA should give the Huron -
Perth league. definite instructions
to have their group playoffs over
by August 28 or else, and then
have no. team for the winner to
play 'for nearly two weeks. That's
poor organization no matter how
you look at it. Mitchell will cer-
tainly suffer from the long layoff
and will in all probability be away
below form when they do meet
another team.

Bus Contracts
Approved By
CDCI Board
Members of the CACI Board,
meeting in the .`auditorium last
evening accepted the contracts for
the buses that will transport rural
pupils to and from school during
the current term, The contracts
that have to be approved by the
Department of ` Education were
awarded to Frank Elliott, Blyth;
J. W. Elliott, Clinton and Murphy
Bros., Clinton,.
There was considerable discus-
sion regarding re-routing on some
of the trips to accommodate all
the pupils. No definite action
was taken with the ,exception of
an extra trip which will, be made
by Murphy Bros. to RCAF Station
Clinton where extra pupils have
resulted in overcrowding the bus:,
Property Cornnrltte°
Dr. J. A. Addison, reporting for
the .property.- committee, brought
all the members up.to date on all.
phases of the new construction
and told of the difficulties that
have arisen. He "recommended the
purchase of 21 new lockers' — a
purchase that is necessary because
of the increased enrolment at the
school this year.
The board decided that provis-
ions for electrical outlets for elec-
tric hand driers should be incorp-
orated in the plans of the new
building. The secretary was in-
structed to contact the architect
so that the necessary_ changes
might be made.
Insurance Costs Rise
Accident insurance premiums
that have cost 60 cents per pupil
in the past have been increased to
$1.10 by the insurance company,
Secretary H. C Lawson said that
this resulted from the large
amount of money paid out in
claims during the last term. Prin-
cipal Fines reported that he had
been in contact with other prim
cipals of schools in the district
and that their accident rates were
all over one dollar. -
t ,Basic English Class
Principal E. A. Fines was In-
structed to advertise that a class
in basic English would be held in
CDCI if there were enough people
interested. • A registration night
will be set in the near future.
The board also approved a re-
quest from R. Gordon Shortreed
regarding night classes re station-
ary engineers. These classes will
commence on Tuesday, October 12
and will be held twice weekly un-
til March.
