Mr. and Mrs. H. E Hartley and daughter Christine, spent last week with the former's mother, Mrs. R. J. Hartley, at her summer cottage at Port Dalhousie. Mrs. Hartley had spent the previous week visiting in Clinton. Mrs. Roy McVittie and Kenneth, Blyth, spent sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Campbell, Watford, Mr, and Mrs. William McVittie, spent last week with their daught- er Mrs. Roberts, London. Mrs. J. 13. Irwin, Miami, Florida, Mrs. E. Merrill, Houston, Texas, and Mrs. George Denick and son, Wyandotte, Mich., visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Irwin of town and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Irwin and fain- tly, R.R. 2, Seaforth, last week. Cragg and daughter, Catherine, also of To- ronto, Women's Institute Plana Day For Grandmothers Grandmothers' Day will be held this year by the Clinton Women's Institute next Thursday, August 26, at the home of Mrs, Charles Elliott at two o'clock -in the after- noon. All grandmothers are -wel- come, and if any persons desire transportation they are asked to call Mrs. M. Batkin. . Also, all those wishing to take the tour to the Canadian National Exhibition, are asked to bring their money for reservations, to next week's meet- ing. Program committee for the day will be the Mesdames C. Sturdy, Grew; Farquhar and N. Carter. Roll call will be answered by "Your Maiden Name." WI At Londesboro Hears :Fred Sloniau. The Londesboro Women's Insti- tute met for their regular meeting in the Community Hall on Fr:day evening, August 6. The meeting opened with "0 Canada" followed by the opening ode, the Mary Stewart Collect and the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Stanley Lyon, president, was in the chair. Mrs. Arthur Clark, secretary -treasurer, read the minutes of the last meeting. Roll call was answered by "Your favourite story in Canadian hist- ory." Mrs. William Manning introduc- ed the speaker, Fred Sidman, Cap- reol and Clinton, who told of his work as school teacher in the northern part of Ontario. '• Mrs. Durnin Philips, Dungan- non, district president, spoke of her trip to the OAC at Guelph. Mrs, Wilmer ,Howatt gave a paper. on the motto, "No nation can rise higher than the cl-aracter of its people." Mrs, Jack McEwing gave a reading and Mrs, Harold Phillips, Blyth, sang two solos, accompan- ied by her daughter Paige, Mrs, Fred Miller, Clinton, gave a plastics demonstration. The meeting closed with the singing of "God Save the Queen" and lunch was served to 60 ladies including several from the Blyth Institute. The meeting was opened by singing "My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean", followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. The program consisted of read- ings given by Mrs. Russell Good and Mrs. Ross Lovett. Mrs, Wil- liam Lovett conducted a series of bingo games which were won by Mrs. Roy Vodden, Mrs. Fred Vod- den, Miss Eileen Wright, Mrs. Wes Hoggart, Mrs. Keith Tyndall and Mrs. E. Ellis. The raffle was won by Mrs. Wes Hoggart. For the September meeting the roll call is to be answered by naming a favourite author and a quotation from the same. All tic- kets on the quilt are to be handed in at this meeting when the draw, will take place, The September meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Allan Neal. The program committee will be Mrs. Wes Hoggart, Mrs. Charles Merrill, Mrs. Graydon Neal and Mis. Allan Neal, The lunch committee will be Mrs, Earl BIeke, Mrs. Allan Neal, Mrs. Fred Vodden and Mrs. Ross Lovett. Mrs. H. L., Wise Feted Before Going ng To London Members of the'Clintonian Club held a surprise party last Thurs- day at the home of Mrs, Charles Nelson tod"honotar Mrs. H. L. Wise who is leaving shortly to make, her home in London. The afternoon was spent in contests and humorous readings conducted by, Mrs.' Maxwell and Mrs, Nelson. Mrs: W. Colclough read an ad- dress of goodwill and best wishes tos. Wise who has been a valu- ed member of the Club, and .ex- pressed their regret at her leaving the community, but wishing her Success and happiness in her new 'home: She then •presented Mrs. Wise with a violet cup and saucer to have, as a reminder of, the happy associations with the Club. A delicious lunch was served by the ladies including a calve attrac- tively decorated by the hostess for the occasion.
