ronto, were guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Nott during

Douglas and Glen McDonald
have returned homeafter two
weeks tour of Quebec and the
Maritimes.
Last week, Ralph Hicks, Van-
couver,
ancouver, visited with his cousin,
Florence Cuninghame. He is the
grandson of Clintons first meyor,
Robert Callander.
Mrs. A. Weatherwax, Orillia,
visited with her sister, Miss Drro-
thy Cantelon last weekend, and
Miss Cantelon returned to Orillia
with her.
Mrs. Howard Cox, who nos been
with Mrs. W. Walker since selling
her farm, left on Monday to make
her home' with relatives in Scot-
land. -
Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Lawrence,
Hamilton, were visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. F. Townsend and other
relatives in this vicinity on Sun-
day.
Set. John H. Wilson, RCMP,
Innisfail, Alta, is home since last
Wednesday for three weeks with
his parents, Rev. and Mrs. H. C.
Wilson.
Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Morrell and
Mr. and Mrs. Alden. Morrell, all of
Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. I3. R. Bed-
dow and MisS Shirley Anne, Dear-
born, Mich., spent the past week
with Mr, and Mrs. Harold Morrell.
Mrs. C, W. Cox, who has been
living near Bayfield, left on Mon-
day for Scotland, where she plans
to take up permanent residence,
near relatives at Langholm, Duni-
frieshire, Scotland.

son, Jimmy, visited at Cochrane
last week; Mrs. Robert Webster
accompanied them to Huntsville
and Mr, and Mrs. Stall Jarvis and
Mrs. Johnt.Jarvis at New Liskeard

Mrs. H. L. Wise spent the fast
week in London visiting her fath-
er, T. H. Elliott and other rela-
tives, On Civic Holiday the family
drove to Bayfield for a picnic on
Clan Gregor Square in honour of
Mr. Elliott's daughter, Florence,
and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. P.
G. Hunter, Edmonton,

cently visited in Strathroy at the

wedding anniversary of the tat-

The 21st annual Cornish Re-
union was held on August 1, 1954,
in Seaforth Lions Park with over
70 members present.'

It was decided to hold the re-
union in Exeter Park for 1955 on
the first Sunday in August. Those
present were from Halifax, Toro -
to, Woodbridge, St. Marys, Exe-
ter, Woodham, Clinton, and Ren-
sall.
Girls Camp
Now In Session
Approximately 1Q0 girls, age
nine to 15 years, have registered
for the Huron Presbytery United
Church Girls Camp at Camp Min-
nehaha. At the Goderich Summer
School site, this camp opened last
Sunday and concludes August 15.
Dean of the camp is Rev. Geo-
rge Watt, Dungannon, while Miss
Kathleen McGill, Clinton, is direc-
tor, with Miss Doris Robinson, St.
Marys, as assistant,
The program includes Bible -
study, crafts including textile
painting, figurine -work and pup-
petry, dramatics, nature -lore and
camp craft, first aid and home
nursing, music appreciation, charm
and etiquette, and swimming.
.Assisting at the camp are Miss
Eleanor Carson, Gorrie, supervisor
of junior Bible study; Miss Sylvia
Skelton, Goderich, supervisor of
swimming and recreation; Miss
Helen Black, of the Clinton Public
Hospital, camp nurse, with Miss
Irene Howatt, also of the Clinton
Hospital, assisting; Mrs, Lloyd
Batkin, Clinton, crafts.
The camp has five junior coun-
sellors, Misses Mavis Steepe, Mar-
lene Jervis, Pauline Jervis, Clin-
ton; Lois Webster, Dungannon,
and Ruth Dockstader, Goderich.
Mrs. Jas. McBride

Mrs, James McBride, prominent
resident of Stanley Township, pas-
sed away at her home on August
9, in her 64th year. The former
Lilley Johnston, Mrs. McBride was
an active mmbr
c i e e of Goshen Unit-
ed Church, life member of the
Women's Missionary Society, and
member of the Woman's Associa-
tion.
Surviving besides her husband,
are two sons, Bert, of the Goshen;
Clare, at home; two brothers,
George and Alfred, of the Goshen.
The body rested at the family
residence, lot 3, concession 9, Stan-
ley Township, where public funeral
service was held Wednesday af-
ternoon, conducted by Rev. T. J.
Pitt. Interment was in Bayfield
Cemetery.
Mr. and Mts. W. E. Perdue,
Mrs, Muriel Dennis and daughter,
and Neil Millson, Landon; Mrs.
Jack Perdue and family, Galt,
have returned from Sunset Cliff
cottage at Bayfield, where they
have been on vacation.
Rev. W. P. Lane
Rev. William P. Lane, B,A., a
retired minister of the United
Church, died at his home, 4 Austin
Terrace, Toronto, on Tuesday,
August 10.
Born in Lane, Bruce County, he
was the descendant of a family of
early settlers that gave their name
to .the community. He was ordain-
ed a minister of the Presbyterian
Churches in Bond Head and Em-
bro and the United Churches in
Seaforth and Goderich. He retir-
ed in 1942.
Surviving besides his wife, the
former May Irwin, are one daugh-
ter, Mrs. G. E. (Helen) Myers,
Middleton, N.S.• one sister, Mrs.
W. D. (Jean) McDonald, Toronto;
five brothers, John and Malcolm
Lane, Kinlough; Dr. Richard Lane,
Port Elgin; Rev. David 3. Lane, of
St. Andrew's Presbyterian' Church,
Clinton, and . Rev. Andrew Lane,
of the United Church, Brussels.
Funeral arrangements are in-
complete. •

While standing on a .ladder to
trim an evergreen arch at the
home of Mrs. Lou Simpson, Robert
Hayman suddenly slumped over
between the rungs and was dead
when Dr. 3. C. Goddard reached
him a few minutes later,
Until retiring and coming here
to live two years ago, he had
farmed all his life in Tuckersmith
Township. He was a member of
the United Church.
Surviving besides ..his wife, the
former Gertrude Glazier, Clinton,
are two daughters, Mrs. Elgin
Johnson, London; Mrs, Frank
Baker, Lambeth; one brother, Jo-
seph, Exeter, and one sister, Mrs.
Straut, New York State.
