James Fairservice, who under-
went a serious operation in Vic-
toria Hospital, London, last week,
died yesterday in hospital. His
wife, Effie, is being cared for at
the home of Mr, and Mrs. Thomas
Fairservice and is far from well.

A happy family .gathering was
held at the home of Mr. and Mrs,
David McLeod, Mitchell, Thursday
evening, July 29, Those attending
were Hector McLeod, a brother
from Covena, Calif., whom the
family had not seen for 23 years.;
Annie (Mrs. Wilfred Bolam) and
husband, Renfrew; Margaret (Mrs.
Gordon Smith) and family, Mil-
verton and Robert McLeod and
family, Stratford. All attended
the Centennial at their home vil-
lage of Auburn.
Knox WMS
The Women's Missionary Society
of Knox United Church held their
August meeting in the Sunday
School room on Tuesday with the
president, Mrs. Albert Campbell,
in charge and Mrs. W. J. Craig at
the piano. The meeting opened
with a hymn. The scripture was
read by Miss M. R. Jackson and
Mrs. Fred. Toll offered prayer.
The guest speaker was Mrs. G.
Durham, St. George, who told of
her experience while in Western
Canada where she heard at Ed-
monton, the- evangelist, Mr,
Templeton, where he was doing a
wonderful work. She spoke of the
evils of race discriminations, stres-
sing Jesus' words that all men
are brothers. She spoke of the
increase of mental illness of which
the only preventative and cure is
for people to live close to God,
Mrs. C. M. Straughan gave the
second chapter in the study book.
Mrs. George MiIIian gave a paper
on temperance. The secretary's
and treasurer's reports were read
and adopted. Cards of thanks
were read by the corresponding
secretary.
The offering was received by
Miss Viola Thompson. Mrs. Camp-
bell offered the closing prayer.

was taken by Mrs. R. Scotts,

friend, that of the late Earl
