His wife, Effie, is being cared for at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Fairservice and is far from well. Knox WMS The Women's Missionary Society of Knox United Church held their August meeting in the Sunday School room on Tuesday with the president, Mrs. Albert Campbell, in charge and Mrs. W. J. Craig at the piano. The meeting opened with a hymn. The scripture was read by Miss M. R. Jackson and Mrs. Fred. Toll offered prayer. The guest speaker was Mrs. G. Durham, St. George, who told of her experience while in Western Canada where she heard at Ed- monton, the- evangelist, Mr, Templeton, where he was doing a wonderful work. She spoke of the evils of race discriminations, stres- sing Jesus' words that all men are brothers. She spoke of the increase of mental illness of which the only preventative and cure is for people to live close to God, Mrs. C. M. Straughan gave the second chapter in the study book. Mrs. George MiIIian gave a paper on temperance. The secretary's and treasurer's reports were read and adopted. Cards of thanks were read by the corresponding secretary. The offering was received by Miss Viola Thompson. Mrs. Camp- bell offered the closing prayer. K. Cornish. On Civic Holiday weekend 'they were at Sauble Beach. The news of acceptance of a call to the Embro church by Rev. W. J. Maines had been received by the official board the previous week. A committee of seven was appointed to take care of the arranging for obtaining a minister for the church, WA Meets The August meeting of the Wo- man's Association was held in the Sunday School room on August 3, and was opened with the hymn, "The Fair Green Hills of Galilee." Scripture lesson was read by Miss E. Bowey who also led in Drayer. The topic, "The Christian Citizen" was taken by Mrs. R. Scotts, Goderich Township Mr. and Mrs. William McGuire spent the weekend in Toronto, and attended the funeral of a dear friend, that of the late Earl Cooper.
