-Clinton Cub News
This last weekend the lst Clin-
ton Lions Pack had their prst
weekend camp.
The Cubs left Clinton at 7 p.m.,
Friday night to go to their camp,
"Huriquaws," a mile north of Hol
mesville where they stayed until
Sunday afternoon.
A total of 14 boys under the
supervision of four leaders enjoy-
ed the pleasures of camp life and
the surprises (!) of "Akala's"
(Frank Ling) cooking. It has been
said that a growing boy's appetite
cannot be satisfied. This is wrong,
Frank had them saying, "No
thank you" at every meal„ even
to such things as hot dogs.
The time passed quickly while
they enjoyed swimming, hiking,
playing games and for work, do-
ing all the normal duties required
around a campsite.
The weekend was not marred
by a single accident, either minor
or major. Needless to say, every-
one- is looking forward to the next
weekend at camp
The leaders and the boys wish
to thank the local merchants for
their kind donations of food and
the many mothers who supplied
the lovely home cooking.
Alvin Fowler
Sentenced After
"Midnight Ride"
Sequel to a "midnight ride"
through the streets of Clinton in
a horse-drawn . buggy came in
Goderich 'court when Magistrate
D. E. Holmes convicted Alvin
Fowler, 20, Clinton, on charges of
theft of a horse and of being in
charge of a horse while dunk.
Fowler was sentenced to 18
days on the theft charge and was
fined $25 and costs or ten days
to be •consecutive with the first
sentence for drunk count.
Dismissed were charges of being
disorderly, assaulting police con-
stables and wilful damage.
Fowler was alleged to have
stolen a horse belonging to John
McClinchey on June 12. Marshall
Young, Mullett Township, said
that 1VkClinchey and Fowler came
to his house after they had been
.drinking during the afternoon at a
nearby trailer. He said they had

then Fowler went outside and
drove away with the horse and
buggy.
No Permission
1VIcClinchey claimed he did not
give Fowler permission to take the
rig. • He said he had been asleep
in a chair when Fowler left.
Mrs. .A. D. McCartney told the
court that at about 10.30 p.m. on
June 12 she heard a noise out-
side her home, looked out and saw
a man on horseback with a buggy
hitched behind. Later she heard
a crash and saw the buggy tangled
in a rose trellis in her garden.
Police constables R. Quayle and
R. Timleck told of arresting Fow-
ler later at night on the roar/
leading to Bayfield. They said,
they had considerable difficulty
with him, that he punched one of
them and kicked another. Chief
Joseph Ferrand said that in his
opinion the accused was drunk
when brought to the po/ice station
for questioning.
Fowler claimed McClinchey had
given him permission to take the
horse and buggy, Re said the
horse was nervous and had got out
of control, racing into the rose
trellis and garden. He admitted
he had been drinking but main-
tained he was not drunk. When
officers apprehended him, he Said
they did not tell him he was under
arrest or what charges would be
laid. J. K. Hunter, of Goderich,
Fowler's counsel, pointed out Fow-
ler had served 12 days in jail
Ouse, awaiting trail.
