Will Enter Dressed Doll At CNE

Mrs. We Bradnock° presided -
for the June meeting of the Wom-
en's Institute held in the For-
esters Hall. The meeting open-
ed by sniging the "Ode" followed
by the _Lord's Prayer in unison,
the Mary Stewart Collect, and
"0, Canada:"
During the business period Mrs.
McDonald of Toronto, who is 'vis-
iting relatives here, kindly con-
sented to dress a doll to be en-
tered in a contest at the C.N.E.
Mrs. Bert Craig reported on the
short courses. It was decided to
pgrchase a picture of Queen El-
izabeth II and flags of the United
Nations, It was also decided to
purchase - certificates from the
Centennial Committee 'with the
money received from selling tick-
ets from a picture donated to the
Institute. There was a discussion
on the Centenary and a commit-
tee was appointed to arrange for
serving of meals.
Essay Contest
The senior pupils of Auburn
Public School, S.S. No. 9, Hullett,
and S.S. No. 16 East Wawanosh
were asked to write a composit-
ion on "A Grandfather's Tale".
The judges were Miss M. R. Jack-
son and Mrs. Sid Lansing who
gave 'their ,decision: first, Shirley
Patterson, S.S. No. 16; second,
Margo Grange, Aubrn School.
The girls read their composition
at the meeting and received their
prize.
The motto was given by Mrs.
W. Good. A report of the dis-
trict annual, held inBeigrave was
given by the delegates, 'Mrs. Fred
hlaetzer and /Mrs, C. H. Straug-
han. A piano Instrumental was
given by Mrs. R. J. Phillips. Mrs.
Fred Plaetzer and Mrs. Sid Mc-
Clinchey sang a duet.
/Mrs. Ed. Davis gave a very in-
teresting demonstration on "Ways
of using strawberries," demonstra-
ting a strawberry chiffon pie,
tarts and cottage cheese and
'strawberries. Tickets were sold
on the pie and Ruth Millian was
the holder ot•, the Iucky ticket
drawn by Gail Miller. The roll
call was answered by 'Your fav-
orite way of serving strawberries."
The meeting closed with "God
Save the Queen. Lunch was'ser-
ved by the -hostesses, Mrs. C. M.
Straughan, Mrs. Oliver Anderson;
Mrs. Edgar Lawson, Mrs. William -
Dodd, Mrs. George Hamilton and
Mrs. George Beadle.

100 bicycles with scotchlite
tape. In the evening they
did. all 75 of , the bicycles
in Hensall:

children were treated to ,two
hours of movies in the town
hall; a comedy- film and one

Sympathy
The- community was shocked
and saddened, bythe sudden death
of Ralph Harrison' who was the
victim of an accident on his fatli-
er's:,farm, 6th concession, on Tues-
day last week. Sincere sympathy
of all is extended to Mr. and Mrs.
Harrison and Jim in the loss of
their son and, brother.

The ladies of the, Goshen Worn -
ens' Missionary Society ,-met at
the home of Mrs, Roy McBride on
June 17. The meeting was open-
ed by Mrs. Richard Robinson.'' 0
Spirit of the jiving God" was sung
with Mrs. Bruce Keyes at the
piano. The scripture was read
by Mrs. Elgin McKinley„
The study period was in the
charge of Mrs. Melvin Elliott as-
sisted by Mrs. Allan Armstrong.
Miss Merle Armstrong played a
piano. instrumental. 'Prayer was
by Mrs. M. Elliott.
Mrs. 11, Robinson had charge
of the business discussion. The
minutes were read and approved.
Twenty-three answered the roll
call A thank you card was re-
ceived from Mrs. James McBride.
Also a letter from Korea saying
they had received the layette. It
was decided to hold the annual
Baby Band picnic on the lawn at
the church in July. Mrs. E. Mc-
Kinley gave the Birthday Fund re-
port.
Mrs. Elmer Hayter and Mrs.
William Taylor sang a duet. "Lord
of light, whose Name Outliveth'.',
was sung and the meeting closed
with the Lord's Prayer.
