"Time To Eat" In Modern RCAF Mess.
For many years in military circles there has been a popular saying that "an army travels on
its stomach," Regardless of the accuracy of this statement the RCAF to -day is not slow in real-
izing that the morale and general well-being of the average service man depends to a large extent
on his receiving a sufficient quantity of appetizing, well balanced' food. The manner in which
food is served and the general mess -hall atmosphere also are important factors in the daily life
of Air Force personnel,
The above photo shows the serving facilities in one wing of the modern mess hall at RCAF
Station 'Clinton. ' Each of the two wings can seat 500 people at "restaurant style", tables.
The food served in this mess hall is prepared by a staff of .60 cooks, vegetable and salad chefs,
butchers, bakers, messmen and supervisory staff. A trained dietitian is on hand at all times to
ensure that the meals are properly balanced, Airmen and airwomen at Clinton usually enjoy two
or three choices on each menu and at every meal there is also a buffet table, resplendent with
fresh fruits, relishes and cook's specialties.
The staff of the mess hall is faced daily with the sizable problem of preparing and serving some
4,000 meals to hungry men and women. To ease this burden the mess hall was designed to effic-
iently feed large numbers and is completely equipped with the most up-to-date facilities known to
the food catering profession.
The modern mess hall at RCAF Station Clinton is just one of the many attractions available
for public inspection on Air Force Day, Saturday, June 12,
