Funeral service was held in the
Beattie funeral home, Rattenbury
Street EaSt, Clinton, on Friday
May 7, for William Henry Cowan,
conducted by Rev. D. J. Lane, and
interment was in Clinton Ceme-
tery.
Pall -bearers were six grandsons,
Jack and William Cowan; William
Mathews, Donald and Murray'
Brown and Jim Wade, Flower-
beerars were Clarence and Gordon
Woods, Joe Loria, Michael Genik,
Cecil Cowan, Dennis Roberton,
Elmer and Allan Litzgus,
Mr. Cowan was born at Bright
in 1865, and came to -Clinton from
Toronto a good many years ago.
He 'carried out his trade of "'car-
penter -contractor in this area, and
was well known throughout the
district. He was a member of the
Canadian Order of Foresters and
of the Knights of Pythias. ,
He died at his -late residence on
Ontario Street, here, on May 4, in
his 89th year,
Surviving besides his wife, the
former Marion Woodhouse, are
three sena, Charles, Detroit; Ho-
ward; Clinton; George, Londes-
boro; three daughters, Mrs A
(Isabelle) Brown, Toronto, Mrs.
D. (Merrie) Arrnbrest, Cedar
Nook; Mrs. A. J. (Nellie) .Math-
ews, Clinton; two sisters, Mrs.
Frank Woods, Paris and Mrs.
Martha Walton, Bright. There are
ten grandchildren and 12 great
grandchildren.
Friends attended the funeral
from Toronto, Paris, Niagara Falls
and Detroit, Mich., as well as from
this district.

who sent flowers, loaned cars and
helped in other ways during our
recent bereavement.

Judging, May 22,
At Seaforth Arena
AU Junior Farmer members,
4-H Club members and club lead-
ers have been invited to the an-
nUal Huron County Livestock
judging competition which will be
held in the Seaforth Community
Centre on Saturday, May 22.
Competition will be under the
direction of the Huron County
branch of the Ontario Department
of Agriculture and the Huron
County Junior Farmers' Associa
tion and will be open to all young
men and women 12 to 30 years of
age residing in Huron County and
who have not completed two or
more years in -an agricultural
school or college.Classes of cattle,
swine, heavy horses and sheep will
be judged with prizes being given
in each section. Those judging will
be grouped into four classes, sen-
ior, intermediate, junior and spec-
ial class (novice).
Special Awards
Thera are several specials that
competitors will be shooting for
and these are headed by a trip to
the 4-1-1 Club Congress in Chicago
in 1955 (or a trip of similar value)
which will go to the Huron County
competitor with the highest ag-
gregate score in the grain and
livestock judging competitions in
1954 and 1955 combined. The per-
son finishing with the second high-
est aggregate score in the same
competition will be awarded a trip
to Eastern Ontario (or an award
of similar value). These and many
more worthwhile prizes that will
e in competition should make the
vent worthwhile to all the juniors

4 -II Tractor Club
The Hayfield 4-11 Tractor Club
met on Monday evening, May 17,
at the Goderich Motors show room,
South Street, Goderich, with 20
members present. The president,
Lloyd Holland, opened the meeting
and members repeated the 4-11
pledge in unison. A film was shown
by Hank Heiman, engineering
fieldman, OAC, Guelph, and spoke
to the group on the fuel system
of the tractor and carburetor
minor adjustments.
Secretary Alex Austin read the
secretary's report. The next meet-
ing will be held on June 16.
New Company -Will
Handle Livestock
Marketing Now
Beginning on Monday a new
company, United Livestock Sales
Quebec Ltd., took over the selling,
directing and settling for all On-
tario -produced hogs exported to
the province of Quebec.
The company is located at the
Montreal Stockyards, C. D. Black,
general manager of United Live-
stock Sales Ltd., sales agency for
the Ontario Hog Producers Mar-
keting Board, announced on May
11 in Toronto. Previously, the
Marketing of Ontario -produced
hogs in Quebec province was the
responsibility of United Livestock
Sales Limited.
The Quebec company is a separ-
ate charter company but operates

that province, Mr. Black said.
A weekly average of 5,000 On-
tario -produced hogs is marketed
in Quebec province.
