Clinton, .on Saturday afternoon, May 15, when Phy]lis Jean Shep- herd, London, younger daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Norman Shep- herd, Clinton, became the bride of Boss David Hoggart, younger son of Mr, and, Mrs. Wesley Hoggart, R.A.- 1, Clinton. The ceremony was performed by Rev. H. C. Wil- son, and traditional wedding music was. played by Mrs. Russell Mc - Beth, London. The bride looked lovely in a street -length dress of horizon blue silk, shantung, with bolero: Her matching head-dress was trimmed. with pearls and veiling. She car- ried a cascade of Sweetheart roses and stephanotis centred with gar- denias, and wore a rhinestone necklace with matching earrings, the gift of the groom. Her sister, Miss Wilma Shep- herd, London, was maid of honour, wearing petal pink shantung with fingertip -length jacket, and white accessories. She wore .a bandeau. of pink flowers and veiling, and carried a cascade bouquet of pink carnations, pink and mauve sweet peas. Alex McGregor, Hespeler, at tended the groom. The mother of the bride wore Et grey lace jacket dress with pink and navy accessories,' and corsage of pink carnations. The mother ef, the groom chose navy crepe with navy accessories. Her corsage was of Sweetheart roses. Following the reception at Hotel• Clinton, the young couple left on a motor trip. For travelling the bride wore a light, blue checked. suit with matching hat, yellow shortie coat and tan accessories: On their return' they will reside on the groom's farm near Clinton. Prior to her marriage, Miss Shepherd was entertained at sev- eral showers. Mrs. John .Connors,' London, held,a miscellaneous shower; also Ms. Roy Parr, Lon- don, who was assisted by Miss Phyllis Teasdale. Women's Institute at Hensall .Hear Women's Of Scottish .Tours' and Youth Hostels (By our Hensall correspondent) The May meeting of the Hensall Women's Institute was held in the Legion Hall. Hostesses were Mrs. J. Paterson and Miss Phyllis. Case. Mrs. E. Norminton,presided for the first part of the meeting. Words of welcome were extended to the Hurondale WI members. `Miss 'Patsy $'letcher favoured with a solo, Robin on My Lawn". The Hurondale ladies were called• upon for a'number under the direc- tion of Mrs. Harry Dougall with Mrs. A. Dougall at the piano., There followed' an outstanding motto entitled "Don't waste time looking at a hill, climb it," by Mrs. M. Dunn; views on Scotland; fol- lowed by Robert Bruce Cameron who gave an interesting descrip- tion of travel, youth hostels, etc. Mrs. G. Armstrong outlined high- lights of the President's Conven- tion held in Guelph. She stressed the theme "Start where you are with what you have." •A thank -you note was read from Miss Gladys Luker. The secretary read a letter. from. R. E. Shaddick, secretary -treasurer of the Hensall Branch No. 468 Canadian Legion, expressing thanks for donation of $25 received front the Institute. An invitation was received from Exe- ter Chapter No. 222, Order of the Eastern Star, to attend a cooking school in Exeter Arena on June 14. Another invitation from Elim- ville WI for June 9,at eight o'clock was kindly accepted. Mrs. J. Pat- erson and Mrs. Inez McEwan were named a transportation committee. Miss: Greta Laramie volunteered to look after musical numbers. Be= cause this gathering takes place on the 'same date as the next meeting, the Jpne meeting will be with- drawn. Mrs. Armstrong mentioned the district annual in Seaforth on May 20. Members having 'wedding cos- tumes for showing are reminded to advise Mrs. R. H. Middleton at once. lONDESBORO ♦44 Cancer Canvass Lloyd Pipe, chairman of the campaign sponsored by the Hullett Federation of Agriculture, to col- lect funds for the Canadian Cancer Society reports that to date they have received $237.75. This total is expected to be muck greater as only seven of the 15 school sections in which the canvass is being held have reported. Mr. Pipe is very pleased with the response that the collectors have received on their first attempt to aid the Cancer Society and its worthy cause. FINGLAND, President Secretary 20-b Teachers' Group Returns Officers' For Another Term The annual meeting for the pur- pose of electing officers for the Clinton Unit of the Federation of Women Teachers Association, -On- tario, was held in the, Clinton Pub- lic School on May 12. The president, Miss E. Jamieson,. presided and opened the meeting with psalm 103 and the federation prayer. The roll call was answered by ten members. The minutes and treasurer's report` were given by Miss Olive Johnston. President, Miss Edna Jamieson; vice-president, Miss Luella John- son; secretary -treasurer, Miss Olive Johnston; programme con- vener, Miss Luella Johnson; social convener, Mrs. George Jefferson, all ,were returned by acclamation for another year. The South Huron annual meet- ing and banquet is to be held in the Zurich Hotel on Wednesday, June 2 at 6,m An new finance15p.co,nvener for all South Huron was appointed for the 1954-55 year from the Clinton unit. Miss Grace Goodfellow was appointed to this office. Miss Jamieson and Miss L. John- ston reported on the regional con- ference held in Goderich on Sat- urday, MaY 8.' when a record num- ber of 178 delegates were present. Special entertainment at this meeting included three speakers from Grade '8 who had been in the Legion public -speaking contest the week before. Mrs. Jefferson gave two readings by Wilson Mc- Donald, a great Canadian poet. Several musical numbers and a dainty lunch closed the meeting. • Goderich Township e e-e-e•r+-e Mrs. John Middleton Miss Lois Middleton and John Middleton, Jr, spent Sunday with F/L and Mrs. AL Whyte, Grand Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Steepe and family are occupying the bungalow on the Bayfield Line, formerly the home of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Middleton. The fine weather has allowed the farmers to finish seeding and they are hoping for warmer wea- ther to start the growth. The frosts at night are holding back the apple blossom which is a good thing but very little damage is done yet, , Congratulations! Congratulations to Miss Kate Williams who celebrated her SOth birthday on Monday.
