JOHNSON PLUMBING FURNITURE FOR SALE Take Care Of Your Driving; Children Are Out "Children should be seen and not hurt," is a modern version of an old saying and in totlay's traffic it is certainly a point to keep in mind. Children are more carefree than careless and it is an adult respon- sibility to keep them from harm they might encounter through in- experience. In the schools, safety education begins at an early age and it is surprising how few accidents hap- pen on the way to and from school. „Setting a good example to child- ren:" is a most important rule for parents. If teacher instructs them to cross only on the green light, and Ma drags them across the street against the red on Saturday mornings, the child is confused and safety lessons are wasted. Motorists, too, must keep in mind that the high performance of modern vehicles also demands high performance on the part of the driver. In the vicinity of schools, near parked cars, or any- where children are playing, the only safe speed is one at which the driver can stop in time to avoid an accident, if a child should suddenly dart into the road. Posted speed limits are the maximum speeds permitted under ideal conditions but a street crowded with children can scarcely be called ideal. Both the law and commonsense insists on the re- duction of speed under these cir- cumstances. Accidents will be re- duced if drivers will act as if their own child might run out from be- tween those parked cars. Easter will be here in a few days. This is a ten-day holiday for all the pupils of the Clinton schools. Normal school day habits and discipline will be set aside. Mr. Motorist, please think of this and be ready for emergencies. —CHIEF JOE COOK — At his residence, 718 Bryan Pl., Flint, Mich., on Tues- day, April 6, 1954, )3ertie Lee Cook, formerly of Clinton, in his 78th year.
