Robbins andtwo children Ronnie and Lin- da, spent Sunday with the ladies' parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Sutter. Mrs. J. E. Johnston returned Saturday from a month's visit in Florida. She 'accompanied :her daughter, Mrs. C, E. Quennell,: To- ronto and her friend Miss M. Mc- Kay. c- K lVV'r. and Mrs A, Benson Corless, Susan and John, Lindsay, spent the weekend with Mr. acid Mrs, M. T. Corless and Mr, and Mrs. K. M. Breakey at Zurich. Mrs. J. W. Treleaven and her sister, Miss Elizabeth Gibbings, are in Lapier, Mich., visiting their CLINTON NEWS -RECORD sister. St Andrew's` Girls Hear "Bell" Talk' The regular monthly meeting, of St. Andrew's Girls' Club was held in the basement of.. the church with vice-president Clara Macaul- ay, in acaul-ay,'in the chair. After the singing of a hymn, Marj, Carter read the scripture and Mrs. D. J: Lane lead in prayer. Minutes of the last meeting and the roll call were read by the secretary, Ann Shaddock, and the treasurer's report was given by Verna Morgan. A lovely hand -painted picture was donated to the club by Marg. English, and plans were made for the sale of the same to raise funds One of the main items under discussion was the "Cooking School" to .be held in the town hall in September. Jean Anderson introduced the speaker for the exerting; Mrs. Knox, chief operator at the Bell Telephone office, who gave a very interesting and informative talk on the workings of their ` office, the services which they render, and the cgpditions under which their employees work during dis- asters, etc. She was thanked on behalf of the club by Jan Walters. With the singing of another hymn, the meeting was closed with the Mizpah " benediction. A 'delic- ious lunch was served by the host- esses, Sadie Wilson and Jan Walters. ICINETTE CLTJBe. PLAN FOR ILAZAAR AND SALE IN APRIL The Kinette Club of Clinton held its bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Claude Daw with the presi- dent, Mrs. Donald Kay in the chair. The minutes were read by Mrs,' Gordon Grigg and the treas- urer's report was given by Mrs. Percy Brown. 1 ' Plans were discussed for the ba- zaar and baking sale which will be held on Saturday, April 10. A de- licious lunch was served by the Portrayed Arabian lancers, in Nutcra 'ker Suite hostess. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 23 at the home of Mrs. Gordon Grigg. Junior institute Elects Executive The regular meeting of Clinton Junior Institute was held in the CDCI on Monday, March 15, with the president, Margaret Holland, in the chair. The meeting opened with the singing of the institute ode, followed by. the Lord's Pray- er. Roll call was answered by each person giving the qualities they would like to see in their mate in the. future. There were 35 girls present. The county annual meeting was discussed. It will be held in the CDCI on Thursday, March 18. The play, "Mamma's Baby Boy" which the Seaforth Junior Farmers and Junior Institute, sponsored by the Clinton Junior Farmers to be held in Londesboro Community Hall on Friday, March 19, was also men- tioned. Marion Snell gave the treasur- er's report after which she read the list of the old slate of officers. Dorothy Patterson, County Jun- ior Institute president, installed the new slate of officers. The new executive are as follows: President, Lois Jones; secretary - treasurer, Leona Johnston; dist- rict director, Mrs. George Coic= lough; institute directors, Leona Johnston, Lois Jones, Marion Snell, June Manning, Gail Man- ning; gift committee, Leona John- ston; press reporter, Marion Snell; auditors, June Manning and Lois Jones. Margaret Brophy, Wingharn, spoke on "Television and New York." The speaker told of many of the sights she had seen in New York and also of the places, she had visited. She also told many things about television. Marion Snell thanked the speaker for her fine address. WMS Group Plans Easter Meeting The regular monthly meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society. of Wesley -Willis United Church was held at the home of Miss Walkinshaw on Thursday, March 11. The president, Mrs. Norman Shepherd opened the meeting with a call to worship followed by a hymn and prayer. A bale of good used clothing is to be packed some time in May. Plans for the Easter Thankof- fering meeting were made. Mrs. Fleming, Goderich, is to be guest speaker on Thursday, April 8 at three o'clock. Mrs. Fred Reid and Mrs. Lorne Jervis were appointed delegates to Presbyterial meeting in Seaforth on April 14 Roll call was answ- ered with averse on the "Symbol of the Vine", The May meeting roll call will be answered with a verse on reference to spring. Mrs. Norman Holland took charge of opening with a song service. Miss Margaret Davies read the scripture and gave the devotional talk. Mrs. Holland gave the chapter from the study book. An invitation was read from On- tario Street United Church to be present at their Thankoffering meeting on March 31. The meet- ing closed by singing a hymn and the Mizpah benediction. Mrs. Fingland's group served lunch. Ontario St. Girls' Club Sees Films In place of their regular meet- ing the Ontario Street United Church Girls' Club sponsored a programme given by the Downham Nursery Co., in Ontario Street United Church on Thursday, March 11. The meeting opened with a hymn and the Lord's Prayer re- peated in unison. Mr. Mulroy con- ducted . the lecture and slides. These dealt with trees and shrubs, and the planting acid care of roses, During the intermission, Mrs. W. VanEgmond entertained with two accordian solos. At the close of the meeting Miss D. The president welcomed the large crowd present and called on Mr. and . Mrs. D. Deas for their part of the program. Mr. Deas showed pictures which they had taken during their trip to Europe and Mrs. Deas 'described each scene. These were beautiful and enjoyed by all those present. Mr. and Mrs. Boyes sang two duets "Harbor Lights" and "To- gether", which delighted the aud- ience. ndience. Mrs. C. Lobb moved a vote of thanks to all taking part in the program. April Dance The executive of the Ladies' Auxiliary, to the Canadian Legion will be in charge of a formal dance on Monday evening, April 19, in the Legion Memorial Hall Mrs. B. Stanley, president, con- ducted the regular meeting on Monday evening. The treasurer's statement revealed $44.97 in the welfare account and a balance of $151.80 in the general account. The president asked for care in conducting the bingo games on the newly -laid floor of the council chamber at the town hall. Marlon Andrews will haye supervision of bingo for March and Mrs. M. Counter is the social convener for April. ... " • Letters of thanks were received including one from the.receptionist at Westminster Hospital, London, in behalf of, the auxiliary's newly - adopted veteran, Mr. Farr. No action was taken in support of (the appeal from the Cancer Founda- tion for a donation to its work. Florence Wood and Mary Grigg were initiated as` new members. A past president's badge was pre- sented to Mrs. Grace Castle, by Mrs. Alma Inkley, a former presi- dent. After the business period Mrs. W. E. Radford and Miss Ferris contributed two very pleasing piano duets and the London Road Ladies' Club presented a humorous skit, with Mrs. Norman Manning, Mrs. William Watkins, Mrs, Fred Anderson Sr., and Mrs. Roy Plum - steel as the actresses, causing much merriment for all present.
