Our Goderich Township. corres-
pondent writes no news to report
as Arctic blizzard conditions pre-
cluded all coming and going; all
social activities. The one good
thing about this blizzard is that it
revealed that old-fashioned neigh-
borliness, unlike chivalry, is not
dead.
"Being at the end of the line,
and all roads blocked and our
bread supply down to some an-
cient brown slices, a rat 'would
eschew, and no trace'of bread man
or mail man for days, how grate-
ful we were when one neighbor
got an ample supply of bread and
our huge packet of mail and re-
layed all this to another neighbor
and finally to us.
The telephone contained alarm-
ing noises like a cross between
the cracklings of Aurora Borealis
and Niagara breaking up in the
spring. Once clear distinct rings
were vague tinklings with every-
one shouting "hello", convinced it
must be their ring and finally
hanging up foolishly, having con-
tacted•no one.
After grimly chinning our way
through the drift in front of the
henhouse door, we decided not to
buy the Book Club's next month's
choice of "The Conquest of Ever-
est" as we like escape literature,
not more of the same.
But to get back to our original
theme of neighborliness induced
