London, came home on Thursday
last and is now improving in heal-

Mr. and Mrs, George Heard,
Sohn Lindsay, Mrs. Charles Bell
and Mrs. James Hutchings were
in London on Tuesday yisiting
their rdother, Mrs. George Lind-
say who. was taken from Alexan-
dra and Marine Hospital, Goder-
ich, to Victoria Hospital, London,
on Saturday.. They report driv-
ing through water as high as the.
running board in several. spots on
the highway,, and seeing fields'
covered so deep with water that
they were veritable: lakes with
waves dashed by the wind.

Grace hurch are holding a erok-
inole party in the basement of
the church.
School Party
A card party was held in Port-
er's Hill School. on Friday even-
ing last sponsored by the pupils
of the school. Both "500" and
euchre were played. Prizes in
"500" went to: high lady, Luella
Bell; high man, Allen Betties; low'
prize, Walter Bell. In euchre:
high lady, Mildred McDougall;
high man, Alvin Betties; low prize,
Ray Cox. Lunch was served.
WA Quilts
Mrs. Alvin Betties was hostess'
for the February meeting of the
Woman's Association of Grace
United. Church last Friday: The
president, Mrs, John McCowan,
was in charge ` of the meeting:
Following the opening hymn, Mrs.
A. Lockhart, led in prayer. Scrip-
ture lesson was read by Mrs. Reid
Torrance. Roll call was answered
by anexchangeof Valentines.
After a lengthy business period,
Mrs. Peter Harrison gave a read-
ing and conducted a contest. The
afternoon was spent in quilting.
.A erokinole party was planned to
be held in the church basement
in March.
The meeting closed with a hymn
and the Mizpah benediction. A
lovely °lunch was served by the
hostess. The March meriting will
be at the home of Mrs. William
Cox.

WMS and WA
The Woman's Missionary So-
ciety and Woman's Association of
Holmesville United Church, met
for their regular meetings at the
manse, the home of Mrs, H. C.
Wilson, Clinton, on Tuesday, Feb-
ruary 9,
Mrs. Edward Grigg was in
charge of the WMS program,
which opened with the hymn
"From the Eastern Mountains".
Mrs. Grigg gave a short talk, and
Mrs. Ninian Heard read the Scrip-
ture lesson, which was taken from
John 12. Mrs. E. J. Trewartha
ledin prayer.
As a petition to God, the hymn
"0 Word of God Incarnate" was
sung. Mrs. H. C. Wilson read an
article on temperance,
Mrs. F. 'Mulholland, the WMS'
president, conducted the business
period. The roll call was answer-
ed with_the payment of $1 for
relief purposes. It was also de-
cided to make some quilt tops for
Korean relief.

Mrs. James Livingstone and son
David, 'London, spent last week

Mrs. H, Aikenhead has returned
to her home in the village, Miss
T. McNaughton is again with her.
Mr. and Mrs. Alec Paterson vis-
ited last week in Toronto with his
mother, MVIrs, J. Paterson; brother-
in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. T.
A. Anderson.
The regular meeting of the Mis-
sion Band was held Sunday during
church service. Mrs. E. Allen and
Mrs. S. Baird were in charge.
There was a good attendance.
Mrs. Agnes Baird celebrated her
94th birthday recently at the home
of her son, Tom, in the village.
She was the recipient of many
cards and gifts. Mrs. Baird, in
good health, is very interested in
community activities and is able to
attend church regularly.
WA Welcomes Membors
The February meeting of the
Woman's Association was held on
Tuesday, February 2 in the school
room of the church. Mrs. Alice
Ham read the scripture lesson
from SII Corinthians, 11, and Gala -
tions 5,
The topic on christian fellow-
ship was taken by Miss E. Bowey,
followed by prayer. A hymn was
sung and the creed was repeated.
The president, Mrs. Norman
Baird, took charge of the business
part of the meeting. The roll call
was answered by the name of a
new•member. There were 23 which
makes a total of 58 members.
Thank -you cards were read from
Mrs, J, Cairns and Mrs. Consitt.
A letter was read from the
March of Dimes committee and a
donation of $10 was made. Mrs.
H. F. Berry read a report on the
groups for 1953. Group 1, $250;
group 2, $280; group 3, $182; group
4, $200,

Bond sang as a duet "Just to
Trust in the Lord". Mrs. Frank
McCullough took the chapter in
the study book. Mrs. Elmer Potter
read an article on China, called
"Isle . of Happy Healing". Mrs.
Grigg read an article about Chin-
ese ministers in Canada. The
meeting closed with the 'hymn
"Jesus Shall Reign Where'er the
Sun."
Mrs. Cudmore Heads WA
The WA meeting was in the
charge of the president, Mrs.
Harry Cudmore, and opened with
the theme song and creed. The
scripture lesson, Gal. 5:25 and
comments were given by Mrs.
Cudmore. The roll call was an-
swered by the payment of duet.
Mrs. Edward Grigg gave the
treasurer's report. It was planned
to make a 75th anniversary quilt,
with Mrs. Lloyd Bond and Mrs.
Edward Grigg in charge. . The
meeting closed with prayer by the
president, and a delicious Iunch
was served.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lawson and
baby daughter Lynn,' London, were
weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs.
D. E. Gliddon.
Mrs. W. M. Nediger, Clinton, ac-
companied on the organ by Mrs.
Ray Vincent, Clinton, was the
guest soloist in Holmesville Unit-
ed Church on Sunday, February
14. Mrs. Nediger sang beautifully,
The Lord's Prayer."

Honours Member
Members of the Woman's Mis-
sionary 'Society of St. Andrew's
United Church, Kippen, offered
silent prayer in memory of Mrs. G.
E. Thompson, a life member, who
died shortly before the meeting
held recently at the home of
Mrs. Robin McAllister. Mrs. Rus-
sell Consitt Was co -hostess.
President Mrs. Emmerson Kyle
was in the chair, and Mrs, Carl
1VIcC1inchey led the devotional per-
iod. Mrs. Ralph Turner and Mrs,
J. Anderson will form the visiting
committee for February, Thirty
members answered the roll call,
and there were three visitors
present.
Mrs. N. McLeod spoke on Chris-
tian stewardship; Mrs. E. Kyle
contributed a poem; Mrs. Allan
Johnson presented the .study in
form of a play assisted by Mrs.
R. Peck and Mrs, J. Sinclair: The
president offered to donate a quilt
top to be quilted by the members
for supply work.
The Woman's. Association later
held a brief meeting; with the
president, Mrs. Winston Workman,
in the chair. The association is
sponsoring a cook book projec.
and members are asked to bring
recipes rp s in , during the next two
weeks. The books are to be print-
ed soon. Lunch was served,
