the ball rolling at 3.35, scoring un-
assisted. Bi11 Hanly erased that
one just one minute later taking
McEwan's long pass when he was',
in the clear. Chessel stopped
Hanly's first drive but the rebound
got away from the Mitchell goal -
tender and Bill drove it home.
Gatenby scored his second goal of
the night midway through the'sec-
ond • period when lie was left un-
covered in front of the. Clinton net.
Smith repeated Gatenby's efforts
a minute later; Flood. passed the
puck out from the corner and
Smith tipped it past Nediger be-
fore he could move to cover the
opposite side.
Mitchell Legionaires pulled a big
upset on Tuesday evening • when
they took the measure of Clinton
Colts right on their home ice here
after losing the, first two games of
the series. Thiswin puts the Leg-
ionaires right back into the 'thick
of things with the next game be-
ing played in Mitchell arena to
night (Thursday), a winfor the
home team would tie the series.
Tuesday night's game wasn't as
good to watch as the previous
game in Mitchell but nevertheless
the 800 -odd fans that were on
hand were not disappointed. Mit-
chell carried the play to the Colts
for the first two periods and on
the night's play were a little sharp -
et in every. department. The Colts,
who,have been keeping their men
off, stride with their persistent
checking in the first two games
couldn't match strides with the
determined Mitchell crew.

It ,was half way through the
first period before either team
could score and it was Bill Gaten-
by who finally turned the trick
when he flipped the disc, into The
cage- when Bill Nediger; was sub-
' merged, in a scramble right on his.
doorstep. Smith gave the Legion-
aires a 2-0 lead five minutes later
combining with his linemates Flood
and Gibson. A tripping penalty to
Eddie Dolnmage set the stage .for
Clinton's first goal. The Colts
swarmed all over the Mitchell
team in an effort to get back into
the game, and were still pressing
when Dolmage returned to the ice.
Eddie had just joined in the fray
when Don Strong picked up the
biscuit and drilled it past Chessel
with the clock reading just 12
seconds remaining in the period.
Mitchell Wins in Second
Mitchell sewed things up in the
Colts Gradually Take Over
The last Mitchell goal seemed
to be the turning point in the
game as Clinton dominated the
play from then till the final bell.
The locals stormed around the
Mitchell net and only Chessel's
brilliant goaltending kept them
from tieing the game. During the
last period Bun Smith and Danny
Colquhoun scored but the Colts
couldn't overcome the three goal
margin. Nediger was pulled ' for
the last 20 seconds of play but
even the extra attacker couldn't
beat Chessel.
Bill Gatenby, Mitchell's flashy
right winger was boarded heavily
midway through the second period
and suffered a broken rib and a
bruised kidney, it is not known
whether he will be able to play
later on in the series or not.

Milverton Dominion Royals seem
to be a "sure thing" for the group
finals come the end of February.
As was expected they have had
very little trouble subduing Cent-
ralia Flyers in the first two games
of their series 7-5 and 11-4, with
the next game scheduled for to-
night,
qnight, Thursday, in Exeter.
Larry McCallum and Bob Hart-
leib have paced the league leaders
in the first two games; Hartleib
has scored six goals and McCallum
four. Charlie . Westman has been
another thorn on Centralia's side,
having scored once and assisted on
four other ,goals. Clive Wilber-
force has been the most effective
man in the Centralia lineupwith
three goals and one assist to his
credit.

night could have very easily re-
versed the score.
There was little to choose be-
tween the two teams, but in win-
ning'the Colts shaded the Legion-
aires slightly both on the offen-
sive and defence. They gave Mit-
chell fewer good scoring chances
and, the ones that Mitchell did get
were ably handed' by Bill Nediger
who played his best game of the
season to date. On the offensive
Clinton's attack was little more
dangerous and more consistent as
they outshot the home club 35-22.
There were 13 penalties handed
out but none of them figured in
any way in the scoring, both teams
being at full strength when all the
goals were scored.
The Colts were forced to play
the entire game without an extra
man as unlucky Murray Noble was
crashed into the boards just 35
seconds after the openingwhistle
and had to retire. Murray injured
his .back and on the doctor's ad-
vice sat out the -remainder of the
game.
The teams battled away on even
terms through a scoreless first
period and it wasn't until 9.11 of
the second when Flood took Mc-
Nairn's pass, shook off, his check
and raced in from the left side to
beat Nediger cleanly with a low
shot. Seven minutes later, Danny
Colquhoun tied things up with a
shot from the right boards. The
puck seemed to deflect off a Mit-
chell player's stick behind the
amazed Chessel whe had placed it
for the opposite corner. Nediger
had really shut the door tight

through the second period, he out-
guessed McNairn and Gibson on
separate plays when they were
both in on top of him,. all alone.
Chessel at the other end was
equally as stingy with his goals,
kicking out very dangerous shots
from the sticks of Draper, Smith
and McEwan.
Colts Win in Third
Mitchell started off the final per-
iod as if they were going to settle
the issue immediately. The period
was just one minute old when
Weber gave the Legionaires the
lead for the second time, Roh-
fritsch set up the play. That goal
looked mighty big for 34 seconds
when Murray Colquhoun, Don
Strong and Bun Smith combined to
tie the count once again, Colqu-
houn blinking the light..
It was veteran Bob Draper who
sent the Clinton contingent into a
frenzy of delight. Bob picked un a
McEwan rebound about ten feet
out in front of the Mitchell cage
and blasted a shot into the rigging
to give the Colts the margin they
needed. Don Strong added insur-
ance marker just 15 seconds later
with the prettiest goal of the night
catching the corner after cleverly
outmanoeurering the defence.
Tlie play during the later part of
the period was mostly in the centre
ice area with the Colts content to
stick to their respective checks and
protect their lead. A fight broke
out in the last minute of play be-
tween Bun Smith and Bruce Ches-
sell;. several other playeds joined
in and even the spectators took
the occasional belt at a player who
happened to come too close. One
