ROBERT CREE wish to express their sincere thanks to friends and neighbours who were so kind with gifts and treats at the Christmas season, 2-p THE VOICE OF TEMPERANCE On the North American contin- ent there are about as many cattle as people. Suppose that every year 5200,000,000 were spent promoting a commodity that had made 7,000,- 000 cattle diseased and increased the number of incurable animals by 250,000 a year what would cattlemen say? What would the governmental agricultural depart- ments have to say? Yet that is exactly what the highly colored lavish liquor advertising is helping to do to human beings. Look over those statistics again. They pre- sent a grim picture of modern drinking. It is not exaggerated in the least. AIluring advertising is definitely encouraging the drink habit. Why not ask our govern- ment at Toronto to apply a little of their .liquor revenue to adver- tising the harmful effects of liquor drinking? We already have 30,000 alcoholics i1'i Ontario. Twenty-two clinics for the treatment of al- coholics are being set up in On- tario by the government. This is admirable SALVAGE work. What about at least an ounce of pre- vention through advertising? A RUSH JOB IS NEVER A GOOD JOB!' - Now is the time to have your grain cleaned for seed. The cleaning plant operator can do a better job when he is not rushed. Many plants offer a discount on cleaning in January and February. 'Seed drill surveys reveal that one farmer in every four uses substandard (rejected) seed: Don't plant weeds. They cost more than taxes. PLAN YOUR SEED REQUIREMENTS NOW Use registered or certified grades of the im- proved high yielding disease free varieties suitable to your district. The seal on the bag is your insurance of quality, germination and variety. The few extra cents spent on sealed seed is good insurance against low yields.
