The Sunday School, room . of
Onitario Street United Church
was crowded to capacity for
the annual Christmas concert
the annuals Christmas concert.
Chairman for the evening was
the Sunday School'superintend-
ent,. Charles Stewart. Everyone'
enjoyed carol singing led ' by
, Rev. A. G. Eagle, after which.
a fine program was presented
by the school.
Members" of the beginners'
class were on the platform and
were introduced by their teach-
ers Mrs F Powell and Miss G -
the recitations by Neal Trewar-
tha,:' Gary Gilks and Steven Ma-
guire.
The. true Christmas, spirit was
well. shown in a short play •by
the girls, of 1VIrs, N. SlY's class,
and several carols were sung.
The boys of Miss R. Glazier's
class sang "Santa Claus is Coin-
ing to Town" with Miss C.
Powell at 'the piano. The boys
of 'Miss L. Freeman's class gave
'a humorous reading "Tough
Luck."
A dialogue "What Christmas
Meant to "Johnny" was given by
the boys of S. MacDonald's class.
Steven Brown of G. Levis' class
played two 'piano solos. Recita-
tions were given by the girls of
Miss J. Thompson's class, Dur-'
Habkirk, Recitations were- gm- ing the evening Mrs. E. Radford
• en by Marie Lobb and Ellen favoured with several piano
solos.
Bartlett, : after which all sang
"Nappy r Birthday Dear Jesus".
Rowena Corey sang a Lullaby
and "Silent Night". The begin-
ners concluded their part in the
program by singing "I Love You"
and "I'm a Little Teapot", ac-
companied by Miss Catherine
Powell.
•"Star Light" was presented by
the girls of Mrs. B. Piper's class.
The primary girls of Miss O.
Johnston's class recited "Long
Ago on Christmas". A short play
Their Wishes" was given by the
girls of Mrs. Shobbrook's class.
"Our Saviour's Birth by the
boys of three classes with . Mrs.
William Hoggarth, Mrs. A. Smith
and Mrs. S. Schoenhals as teach-
ers. The solo in this number
was sung by Brian Levis - and
Rev. A. G, Eagle spoke brief-
ly, expressing appreciation to
those helping in the work of the
Sunday School, and stressing the
importance of regular Sunday
School attendance" for all_ child-
ren.
The arrival of Santa Claus and
the distribution of gifts and
candy to the children climaxed
the evening's entertainment.

attended the Wingham and..dist-
rict ministerial association meet-
ing on. Monday last, when Barry
Wenger, publisher of the Wingham
Advance -Times, addressed .the as-
sociation on "The Church and the
Local Press."

Maude Batesom, visited Seaforth
friends on Friday last.
Mrs. Harriet Blanchard is visit-
ing in Detroit, the guest of her
cousin, Miss Jeannie Pickett,
Mr. and. Mrs, B. 3. Gibbings,
Mrs. J. W. Treleaven and Miss
Elizabeth Gibbings are visiting
their sister in Lappeer, Mich,
Mrs. Fred Axon, Toronto, " has
been renewing acquaintances' in
town for the last week and left
for her home on Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Lane, Kin
lough, Bruce County, spent Friday
last with the former's brother at
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
manse.
Mr.wand Mrs. A. J. Deseck were
in Toronto last week attending
the annual convention and banquet
of the Ontario Whole Mllk Pro-
ducers' League at the Royal York
Hotel.
Presbytery Meets
With Candidates
Nelson Trewartha, Clinton, pre-
sided over the Presbytery of Hur-
on of the United Church of Cana-
da meeting December 29 at Blyth
United Church. Five candidates
for the ministry, belonging to Hur-
on Presbyptery were the special
guests:
The committee on students ,and
colleges, assisted the presbytery
executive in arranging the meeting.
Much credit is due Rev. W. C.
Parrott, B,D., Crediton, for 'the
success of the meeting. The can-
didates were introduced by Rev.
N. D. McLeod, B.A., B.D, Kippen.
The presbytery members were in-
troduced to the candidates by the
Rev A. G. Eagle, B.A., B.D., Clin-
ton.
The five candidates then addres-
sed the court in the following or-
der: Clifford A Kelly, Belgrave;
Donald A. McKenzie, Blyth; Leslie
McSpadden, Seaforth; H. Brock
Vodden, Blyth and Harvey Sperl-
ing, London. All candidates are
taking the course in Arts at West-
ern and Victoria University. Sev-
eral prospective candidates for the
ministry also were present at the
meeting.
Cecil Wilson, Exeter High
School, gave an address during the
dinner hour on the theme: "What
we expect from our ministers?"
During the afternoon session an-
other address was given by Rev.
R. A. Brook, Bluevale, clerk of
presbytery, on "The experience of
a minister on the field." The oc-
casion was an inspiring and mov-
ing one and in a few well chosen
words N. W. Trewartha commen-
ded the men for their splendid ad-
dresses and wished them success
in their studies and happiness in
their future work as ministers of
the United Church.

Mrs. Allan 'Johnson' was hostess
for the second meeting of The
Thrifty Kippenettes held at her
home on Wednesday, January 6.
Marilyn Mousseau, the new presi-
dent, took the . chair and opened
the meeting with the theme song,
"The more we get together". Six-
teen members responded to the
roll call. The minutes of the last
meeting were read by A. Sinclair.'
Mrs. Johnson led a discussion on
"The care of the person." Mrs.
W. Bell led discussions on care of
woollens, washing, of woollen
sweaters and pattern alterations,
The next meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. W. 3. F. Bell on
January 20. Roll call: One in-
dication of a well groomed girl.
Luncheon was served by Lois Mc-
Lellan and Bonnie Kyle.

The Woman's' Association of
Wesley-Wiilis United Church held
the first meeting of the new year
in the church parlour on the af-
ternoon of January 7. The Presi-
dent, Mrs. George Beattie, opened'
the meeting by reading a little
New Year's poem. The opening .
hymn was "0, Jesus Christ grow
thou in Me"„ followed by the de-
votional period in which Mrs.
Frank Andrews read the scripture
Mrs. A. T. Cooper -read the lesson
thoughts, and prayer was offered
by Mrs. D. Laidlaw.
The business meeting " followed
with the reading of the December
minutes by Mrs. Milton Steepe,
andthe financial report by Mrs.
A. E. Shaddick in the absence of
Mrs. Douglas Bartliff. The cor-
responding secretary, Mrs. Reece
Jenkins, read a large number of
letters of thanks from the sick
and shut-in members of the"con-
gregation who had received gifts
of flowers and fruit at Christmas.
The 'Canadian Girls in Training
convener, Mrs. D. J. Lane, report-
ed a decrease of one group in her
division, but increased finances,
The girls had assisted their re-
spective churches in projects of
various types and had received
missionary education.
Mrs. Fred Ross, Auburn, for the
Home Helpers group, was enthus-
iastic over the additional interest
and support of a larger number
in her department.
The historian of the Presbyter-
ial, Mrs. Albert Taylor, Goderich,
informed the society that Knox,
Goderich, would celebrate its 70th
anniversary this year, and the
CGIT its 25th anniversary.
The treasurer, Mrs. Russell,
summarized the financial situation
by stating that $4,777.50 had been
forwarded to the Dominion treas-
ury of the society.

gave first the monthly reports and
afterward the annual ones. Mrs,
Fred Potter reported for property;
Mrs. D. Laidlaw for sewing; pro-
grammes, Mrs. Norman Shepherd;.

ers, sent' by Mrs. John Innes;
press, Mrs, A. T. Cooper; Mrs. El-
mer Hugill social ' convener; and
lastly by the retiring treasurer,
Mrs. A. E. Shaddick.
Two new positions were arrang-
ed for: Mrs. Frank Fingland as
Christian citizenship convener and
Mrs. J. Addison as special visiting
convener. The St. Patrick's tea
will be held on March 13 and the
Country, Fair on October 23. 302

The congregational dinner will
be held on January 28. The Feb-
ruary meetingof the WA will take
the form of a pot -luck supper, to
be followed by the business meet-
ing.
