Dr. Shaw made his annual health
report: -
In making this my annual report
for the year ending Nov. Met, 1912, I
am pleased to say that •the health of
our town people has been as satisfac•
tory as could he expected. There has
been no epidemics of contagious dis-
eases which speaks well when we con-
sider that almost every town and vill-
age in the County has been afflicted.
There has occurred (3) cases of typhoid
fever during the year in all of which'
well water was ill use, The total nun)
her of deaths was forty deducting
those who were not residents it will
make the average death rate seven-
teen per thousand., Total number of
births was forty-two malting the birth
rate nineteen per thousand. The ven-
tilation of the Public Buildings inched-
ing the schools is not of the best. The
architecture not being modern much
difficulty and expense would he en-
tailed to correct this defect. The locic-
up is in a disgraceful condition and I
advise our town fathers to enquire in-
to the matter with a view of tettering
the same. Owing to the past year be-
ing an exceedingly wet one- the street
d and filled
been overtaxed drains have b ,
with mud and filth rendering them
too shallow to carry off• the overflow
of water with the result that many
cellars have been and at present are
flooded with water. I fear disease
will result in some quarter unless some
tffort is made at ranee to remedy this.
In my last annual report I advised the
introduction of a septematic removal
of garbage and manure will breed
more flies in forty eight hours than
t can be captured in a whole season and
as this is an age of preveution, some
means should be devised to reduce the
clanger from flies I was pleased to
r nt r
t ''n the past summer
b •ave thatdnr
observe
g
efforts were being made to keep the,
dust on our beautiful front street from
flying about ; covering vegetables,
meats and groceries r by sprinkling
our streets with oil- I hope next sea-
son will see this excellent idea carried
out to a much greater extent, all of
which I respectfully submit.
