In The Heart Of Vancouver

vapQouver., July 22. ---Causing ap-
proximately from 51,500,000 to $2,000,.
000 loss, fire yesterday morning wiped
Out practically all of the buildings on
the west side of Main street, one
block south of Prior. One account
Says that the fire was caused by
tramps in a stable, while another saya

ed, but many residents of rooming

The fire originated behind Champion
end White's warehouse, which was
burned, as well as the Tudhope Motor
and A. B. 0. Motor Companies' build-

cluding nineteen cars and trucks. The

trend of political eveets, the belief
is daily growing stronger in well-in-
formed and semi-official circles here,
that Parliament will meet some time
about the latter 'part of September.
Premier Borden and Messrs. Doherty,
Hazen and Pelletier tre expected back

August, and as there are a number of
matters ()emending immediate atten-
tion, it is belieyed that Mr. Borden
will ask that Parliament be sum-

proclamation in Saturday's Canada

Hydro Lineman Killed.
Toronto, July 22.—Earl 13. Leslie a
lineman in the employ of the Hydro-
electric maintenance department, tell

Oakville, Saturday noon, and died
later in the General Hospital here,
His skull was fractured, his right arm
broken and he sustained severe inter-
nal injuries.

Riddell- Paterson, B.A., the first
Rhodes scholar from the University

captain of the Oxford, tennis team
and lead his associates to victory
against their, Cambridge opponents.
He was also a eixternber of the Oxford
soccer team, and he rowed with the
Bahol crew. For athletic ability he
obtained the "Oxford blue," which is,
the highest mark of distinction of
old university bestows in the way of
sport.
Wm. Robinson Is Dead,
Kingston, July 22.—Williarn Robin-
son, ex-M.P.P., who claimed to be the
man who eaused the defeat, of the
Sandfield Macdonald Government in
1810, died th the General Hospital yes-
terday afternoon, at the age of 88
years.
He was elected as an independent
member in 1870, but voted with the
Liberals when the Macdonald Govern-
ment wee close pressed.
He was mayor of the city in 1869
and 1870, and also aklerman far
many yearae He was a Presbyterian
and also a strong Orangeman.
