teneervative Association of South
Renfrevv decided at a convention held
yesterday afternoon to oppose Hon,
George P. ertaliiiin in the bye -election
made necessary by the resignation of
Mr. T.A, Low, Liberal who was elected
September 21. Dr Maloney, of Eganr
viiia, recieved the unanimous momin-
ahem but a provision was inserted by
the convention that shonlil Mr, Low
desire to withdrew his resignation and
take his seat in Parliament the Liberal
Conseryateve Associatioe would offer
no opposition. A week was allowed
for Mr, Low's reply, but ib is not ex.

Goderich. Jan. 22 -Rev. Dr. MeLten
a retired Presbyterian minisl et re-
siding here for the lest five years. died
se 11 o'clock Monday morning after a
brief illness. He was in his 7Sth year,
and was pastor of St Andrew's church
Blyth. for 40 years. .
He first saw the light of day in Ar-
gyleshire, Scotland, he being one of
ten children in the home of Donald.Mc
Lean. The family came to Canada in
the year 1870 and located in the town-
ship of Aldboro Elgin Go. After a
successful college course and consider-
able eeperience in supply work Dr. Mc
Lean, who was sought after by a
stronger charge, accepted Blyth 101866
and 40 years ministered to the congre-
gation in word and deed. He eras
blessed with splendid heal) h and in his
long pastorate was only MI wink three

To The Council.
Bayfield, Jan. 22. -Practically a
unanimous vote was given here to•day
in favour of the town being linked in
the hydro -electric power chain.
Ninety.four votes were polled in
favor and only seventeen against; the
measure.
The ratepayers also elected Mr.
Samuel Moore to the council. a vacan-
cy having been caused by Baliff
Cameron, though his recent appoint-
rnent, being unable to act on the
municipal board. • Mr. Moore secured
sixty-four votes and Mr. R. ernitti, his
opponent, twenty less.
