marriage�to Mr. Francis E, Perdue,

The case; of perjury' charged ,a-
gainst James Burna of town fell
very flat at Godeeieh last Friday.
The Grand Jury' brought inaver-
dict of guilt b' a' vote of • 8 to 4
but Judge. Doyle after hearing the
evidence of the plaintiffs had the
jury acquit Mr. Byrne on both
charges. The two young fellows
who were connected with the case.
and who committed her•jnr•y ac-
cording to their limn evidence were
tried on Saturday and wene-let off
on suspended• sentence. County
Constable Whitesides had ,the case
in charge. while Crown Attorney
Seager prosecuted, Mr, Dancey ap-
peared for Mr, 'Barns.

LOCAL OPTION CAMPAIGNS.
Local, option campaigns are now
in full saving in 45 Ontario munici-
palities', and the fight between the
Alliance forces and the liquor in-
terests is steadily growing warm-
er with the approach of the Jan-
uary elections. In all. but half a
dozen places or thereabouts 'the
liquor traffic is being attacked' for
the second or third time. "The
liquor men are withdrawing with
out fight in 235 places'" is the state-
mnet of the secretary of the Al-
liance. Among the more import-
ant places• in \vhcih the by-law will
be voted on are Sault Ste. Marie,
Paris, Barrie, Cobourg,I Aylmer Tfl-
sonburg, Meaford, Wiarton, Nap-
anee and Arnprior,
