LABORITES WINNING Australia Almost Certain to Re- turn Former Government, MAJORITY IS DECREASED Saturday's Elections Chow Slight pains For Laborites In the Senate and Losses In the Lower House - Ministers All Re -elected -Three Women Candidates Have All Been Unsuccessful at Polis. 'LONDON, Tune 22 -The Sydney cor- respondent. of The Times telegraphs that although the results in the e,run- try constituencies are still incomplete it is already certain that the Labor party is .returned to power will). a slightly reduced majority in Austra- lia, where the elections took place on Saturday. In New South \'Gales the Liberals are likely to gain 'four seats net, but this is counterbalanced by Labor gains in other states. Victnria shows heavy polling, and Sir J. Quick, the Liberal member • for Bendigo, has been defeated. According to the rotting now in all the Federal \finister•e. have them returned, execpt Premier Fisher, who, however, is then -.;ht to be fairly safe, and Hon. K. O'Malley, Minister of Home Affairs, who possibly has been defeated, For the Senate the L abnr. candi- dates at present are leading in every state. It is probable that the Labor party will win all the seate in Vie - toxin, South Australia and Wet Aus- tralia. Sir J. Symon, Independent Liberal, has certainly been defeated, and he is a great loss to the Senate, which consists of 30 members, six from each of the original states. They are elected for six years. The Daily Chronicle correspondent says that Premier Fisher, Hon. Jos. Cook, the Liberal leader, Hon, F. G. Tudor, Minister of Trade and Gas - toms, Hon. H. W. Hughes, Attorney- ' General, and Senator Pearce have all been re-elected. Liberals Gain Eleven. MELBOURNE, Australia, June 2. - While the returns of the Federal elec- tions held Saturday are still fax from being complete, The Argus estimates the result for the House of Represen- tatives with 75 seats as follows: Lab- orites, 39; Liberals, 35; independent, 1. In the election of 1910, the re- turns showed:. Labor party, 44; Fu- sionists, 29; Independent -Liberals, 2. So far as can be told from the re- turns the three women candidates were unsuccessful, Miss Goldstein, IndeAenclent. in one of the Victoria districts, polled 10,000 against 16,000 polled by her Liberal opponent. 110114NOS OF .PEOPLE SUFFER J9 AGONY vrtora ta ea xc;i3® Itis one of the most prevalent troubles of civilized life, and the poor dyspeptic cannot even enjoy a mealiwitbout d isSres3° ing after effects, for nearly everything that enters a weak dydpeptiff Stomach nets as an iia tt Burdock Blood Bitters will ulato the iddii5aeh,• stimulate secre- ion of the saliva, and metric jun to acrlt ate diges'tiontnre pore. acidity, and tone l -the eSttfb system.' sti4 -''l, rs, Dennis Hebert, St. onifface, Man. writes: -"I have used Burdock Blood Bitters, with great success; for dyspepsia, indigestion and sour sl iettnibTi. 1 was terribly troubled with my stomach for months, and spent a lot of money without getting any relief, until I -hap- pened to see about a woman using it, and her trouble seemed the seine as aline. Canada Could Take Ships For Own Navy, Says Observer. LONDON, June 2.-(C.A.P. Cable.) -The delay may prove a blessing in disguise if it results in a more em- phatic declaration of the determina- tion of Canadian people to bear their own share of naval defence. This is the hopeful view of The Observer which refrains from offering a word of criticism of the action of the Senators. The paper thinks that it would be well in Canada as well as at home, to lift the question of Imperial de- fence out of party polities altogether, The Senators have acted according to their own conception of their duty. In the face of thia dacisiou, how- ever., The Observer calls upon Church- ill to go 'ahead with laying down three ships. so that they may be completed by 1975. If Borden event- ually succeeds, it will then be .possible for him to take over ships on account of Canada, at whatever stage they have reached. Should he fail, it will be a matter of negotiation between his successor and the Admiralty, whether they are retained as units in the royal navy or purchased by Canada as the• nucleus of her autonomous fleet. No thing will have been compromised or even very seriously delayed, if the First Lord will simply steel himself to his plra eduty rr Wdel FOUR THOUSAND OL)T.
