-11any Place names arise in this
manner. Then there are those
called after national heroes (Which
include Members of the royal fami-

HL,isthe most important of these
in na a.
The old British coloniesS could
boast of Georgia (after George II.),
Maryland (Henrietta Marie), and
Virginia (after Queen Elizabeth,
the viirgin queen). Then of course,
in more modern times we have
Alberta (after King Edward when
Prince of Wales), and Victoria, the
capital of British Columbia, after
the Queen. The most picturesque
names, however, are the ancient
Indian names, which are: very
largely preserved in North Am-

Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon,
Niagara, are well known examples.
Very often the name is primarily
that of •a river °Hake. Manitoba
is an exception. It means the land
of the Great Spirit. The word
Canada itself, though its derivation
has been disputed, is usually held
to be of Indian origin.

Perjury Denounced
In trying a case at Hamilton Judge
Monck said that in Division Court
cases most of the evidence was per-
jured, and it was difficult for Judges
to make decisions. "There is alto-
gether too much perjury, and I am
going to stamp it outs' he announced,
"I think every member of the Bar
should do all in his power to pre -vent
perjury, and if a lawyer knows a
witness is committing perjury, he
should publish the face"

Alexander Renaud, probably the
oldest man in Ontario, died at the
home of his son in Haileybury at the
age of 106 years, 10 months.
The 1ongest journey he ever made
in his life was to St. Anne's on a. Pil-
grimage when he was 104 years old,
Ten years ago he left off the use of
alcoholic liquors, although he was a
constant smoker and chewer of to-
bacco until a -week before he died,

Ali Skin Diseases
ARE OCCASIONED BY
BLOOD.
No one can expect to be free from some
form or other of skin trouble unless the
blood is kept in good shape.
The blood ,can easily be purified and
the skin disease cured by the use of
Burdock Blood Bitters, that old and
widely known blood m'edicine,
It has been on, the market for over
35 years and its reputation is unrivalled.
Mrs. Lillie MitChell, Guelph, Ont.,
writes; -"I was troubled with eczema,
My body was covered with awful itching
skin eruptions. Although I tried many
different remedies I could get nothing to
give me relief. Finally I got a bottle of
Burdock Blood Bitters, which completely
cured me."

As soon as the apparatus has. been

properly using the "Detectophone," it

Experts declare that the reason
stomach disorder's are so common in
