passed peacefully to his rest on the
evening of Wednesday March 5th
in the 88th year of his age. After
life of wonderful activity. Being
one of the oldest settlers of ftibie
township of Hullett, and one of the
very tfevSnow living whq took np
their homesteads from the Canada
Company about 4..D.1848--eleaned
his land erected his buildings and
lived continuously thereon for over
• 82years. Here was amen whose
span of life covered almost 88 years
and yet he practically had never
any illness nor old age in the sense
of impaired lfaculties. To see him
• of late years, alert and bright -one
found it hard to ((believe that he
had 'Passed the line of fonrstore
• and seven. In politics IVIr.Brown
• was a Liberal and (a consistent
member of the Methodist Church
which he attended regularly up to
the last and was always earlY his
• pew, indeed it can be, truly said of
him that he was always prompt in
all his engagements, that being a,
strong feethre • of his chara,cter.
He leaves to mourn his loss four
daughters, two athome and two
in London,. also two sons. Moses
on the Homestead and Ephraim on
his farm on Con. 0. The funeral on
Saturday from the Methodist
church to the cild W. Cemetery•was
largely attended.

held their annual oyster slipper at
Mr.Ezra Pickard's on Tuesday

Mr_ Will Jenkins had the mis-
fortune to lcose a valuable horse,
this week, It had apparently lain
on a fork during the night and in
so doing pierced its abdomen so
badly that it had to be shot.
Mr. F. Hutson has rented from

cently purchased from Mr. F.Leon-
ard. •
Mr. Geo, Sheppard moved to the
village this week. We welcome
them to our midst,

the farm of the late James Lindsay

•The funeral of the late Francis
Brown was held last Saturday and
was largely attended.
The Presbyterian pulpits were
supplied last Sunday, by Rev. Mr.
Justice, who preached excellent
sermons and captivated his hearers
Rey. Mr. Fraser will be here next
Sunday and congregational meet-
ings will be held on the Tuesday
following to find out if a choice can
be made.
The good sleighing has been
spoiled by old Xing Sol and there
are many signs of Spring.
Several farmers around here sold
horses and delivered them in Wing
hare lately at good prices.
llogs and cattle were; 'Shipped
here on Monday and hogs again on
Wednesday and the hog price was
$9.25: Eggs price keep up to 20-21.
