C.weet Omelet
Have the pan delicately clean for
making omelets. Whisk three eggs to
a froth, adding a tiny piuch of salt.
Melt three ounces of butter in the
dish, and as soon as it froths pour
in the beaten eggs. Stir quickly all
the time fo prevent the mixture stick-

Fruit Fritters
Any kind of fruit, either fresh or
tinned, can be used for fritters. First
make a simple batter by mixing about
half a pound of flour with half a pint
; of water till thick and creamy. Melt
two ounces of butter and add it to
the mixture by degrees. Whisk the
whites of te- eggs and stir them in
very s lightly. Then take six apples
or three oranges, with the peel and
pips removed, or the same weight in
tinned apricots or pineapples, cut in
email pieces. Sprinkle the fruit with
sugar some time before, then dip each
piece in batter, fry them and serve
with:sifted sugar. 'Time, six or seven
minutes.
Turkish physicians have a very pe-
culiar methed of adapting reinedies to
the cases which, come under their care.
A Turkiali traveller relates the fol-
lowing of a physician of that country
who was called to see a Patient Buf-
feting from typhus fever.
• The doctor considered the case
hopeless, bat prescribed for the pa-
tient, and •took his leave. The next
day, in passing, he inquired of a ser-.
vant at the door, if his master 1000
dead.
"Dead!" was the reply; • "no he is
much better."
The doctor hastened inside to ob-
tain a Solution of the -miracle.
"Why," said the patient, 'I was con-
sumed. With thirst, and drank a pail-
ful of the juice of pickled cabbage,"
"Wonderful!" quoth the doetorand
out came his tablets, mod which he
made this iascriptibn: "Cured of ty-
phus fever, Mohammed Aga, an up -
bolsterer,' by drinking a pailful of
pickled cabbage juiee." se,sess..esses,
Soon after, orc eing called to see
another patient, a dealer in embroider-
ed haakerchiefs, who was suffering
from thniaTiVe. 'ffialady, the doctor
forthwith prescribed "a pailful of
pickled cabbage juice."
On calling the next day to con-
gratulate his patient on his recovery
the doctor wrs astounded to be told
that the man was dead. In his be-
wilderment at these phenomena, he
came to this safe conclusion: "Al-
though in cases of typhus fever pickled
cabbage juice is an efficient remedy,
It is not to bc used unless the patient
be by profession an upholsterer."

Many people are unaware of having
anything wrong with their heart till some
exeiteraent, overwork or Worry causes
thein suddenly to feel faint or dizzy, and
have an all -gone sinking sensation.
On the first sign of any weakness of the
heart or nerves, you should not wait until
your case becomes so desperate that it is
going to take years to cure you, but avail
yourself of a prompt and perfect cure by
using Milburn's Heart and Nerve Pilis.
Mr. Thomas A. Stevenson, Harris,
Sask., writes:—"I was troubled with

Millhande and Fishermen on receipt of price by The T. Milburn Co.,
A new project for bringing settlers
from the north ot Scotland to 'Van-
couver Island, )3ritish Columbia, is
that of Rev. Father Macdonell, cf.'
Fort Augustus Abbey, of the Benedic-
tine Order or Scotland.
One of Father Macdonell'e activt,
ties in the north of Scotland yes the
establishment of a home for orphan
girls, Only such girls are taken in
as are physically sound and, eherefore,
capable of growing up into healthy
useful women. Two housekeepers are
provided and also two certified trained
nurses. This home, housekeepers,
teachers and children, he proposes to
transfer to the neighborhood of Al
-
beret, British Columbia, to a farm
of about SO acres where the girls
will be taught housekeeping and poul-
try raising, dairying, fruit culture and,
generally speakng, whatever pertains
to woman's work on the farm or 10
the house. They will thus be enabled
to grow up capable and self-reliant.
Somewhat in the same connection
but not in practical form, is Father
itlacdonell's plan for bringing out ad-
ults from the Highlands of Scotland.
There are also many fishermen in
the north cf Scotland, says Father
Macdcnell, who would be glad of a
chance to follow their occupation in
this new country.

English "Clogs" Higher
New clogs are costing more in the
English cotton districts owing to the
advance in the prices of materials.
The head of a clog -making firm in
Bacup stated that leather which three
or four years ago was 34 cents per
pound had gone up to 42 or 44 cents,
and that which used to be 44 tents
had risen to 56 cents.
Consequently it pays the doggers
better to make up old stud by soling
second-hand uppers, and by selling
them at a price considerably below
that demanded for new goods. Cus-
tomers show decided disinclinaion to
pay the extra coppers which have' to
in put on to the price of new clogs
owing16 the great rise in the price of
materials7etelweeezeliereeteA
In addition, there is the general
movement for the advance of wages
demanded by the journeymen doggers,
five per cent. having lately been con-
ceded by a big Bacup firm.
Prom Carpenter to Mayor
Alderman Edward Thomas, of Car-
diff, Wales, better known in Welsh
national and literary circles by hie
bardic name of "Cocbfarf," who died
recently aged 59, knew no word of
English till he was thirteen or four
teen years of age, Having served an
apprenticeship as a carpenter; ho went
to Cardiff nearly forty years ago.
When in reminiscent mood he would
recall that his first job there was, in
the Council Chamber at the old Town
Hall in St. Mary's street, the chainber
in which he afterwards sat as a coun-
cillor and for a year as mayor.
