HALIFAX, N.S., Jan. 13.—From the
stranded steamship Uranium, 880 pas-
sengers were taken off at Chebucto
Iead, at the entrance to Halifax Har-
bor, and reached here in safety. No
lives were lost, but Capt in Eustace
and his crew are still aboard the
ship, which hangs by her bows on a
reef, the captain hoping to get off at
low water. The escape of a ship from
such a predicament is generally at
high water. but the captain evidently

The work of transferring the Cram:

much medicine that !might say to take
any more would only be making it
worse. My stomach just felt raw. 'I
read. of Na-Dru-Co Dyspepsia Tablets,
and a lady friend told me they were
very easy to take, so I thought I would
give them a trial and really they worked
wonders. Anyone having anything
wrong with his stomach should give
Na-Dru-Co Dyspepsia Tablets a trial,
they will do the rest. My stomach is
fine now and I can eat any food,"
One of the many good features of
Na•Drn-Co Dyspepsia Tablets is that
they are so pleasant and easy to take.
The relief they give from heartburn,'
flatulence, biliousness and dyspepsia is
prompt and permanent, Try one after
each meal—they'll make you feel like
a new person.

HIGHWAYMEN ESCAPED.
But Ban': Messenger and Detective
May Die.
NEW YORK Jan. 13.—A aquad of
detectives baited a trip for highway-
men Saturday with a sixty -year-old
bank messenger and a satchel con-
taining $3.300. The highwaymen hymen took
the bait. One detective was shot and
may the; the messenger was beaten
senseless and probably has a fractur-
ed skull, and a pitched battle, with
bullets peppering houses like hail,
was fought ou the east side. One 'of
the highwaymen escaped; the other
was- captured.
The messenger, Peter E. Plunkett,
left the Union Exchange National
Bank, where he had been employed
for ten years, with his satchel in his
hand and the detectives trailing him.
Within the satchel were currency and
silver for the weekly payrolls of two
factories. The detectives were dis-
guised as laborers to avert suspicion.
As. Plunkett stepped into the dark-
ened hallway of one of the fa,ctcries,
two men confronted him. One of
them crumpled him up, 'senseless on
the flagging, before he could "cry out.
The assailant used a 'blaclijack. The
other highwayman grabbed the sat-
. chel 'and both darted away.'
The factory had not been apprised'
of -the plan and detained one of, the
-detectives, who had gone ahead of the
messenger. While he was explaining,
the highwaymen were making off.
The detective 'started in pursuit,
caught one of the assailants and roll-
ed to the cobblestones with• him.
Finally the man': was captured, but
the 'other got away leaving the money
and a bullet -riddled coat.

IMPROVEMENT SHOWN.
Duchess' Condition Is .Better Than
It Has Been.
MONTREAL, -Jan. 13.—A continued
improvement has manifested itself in
the condition of Her Royal Highness
the Duchess of Connaught, and the
symptoms which caused such grave
alpreliension when she was hurried
from Ottawa to the Royal Victoria
Hospital, are apparently nut se
marked.
Only one bulletin was issued yes-
terday, at shortly after noon, and this
reports that the distinguished patient
it also the victim of bronchial trouble.
"Her royal highness passed a some -
whet better night. Her ca_gh is more .,
or less troublesome. Otherwise her
condition continues to show improve-
ment and her strength is maintained.
"E. S, Worthington.
"A. ‚Ti. Garrow, M.D.
"W. W. Chipman, M:,
D."
At no time, apparently, has the
health of her royal highness been so
encournging since her removal to the
hospital. The reports on Saturday in-
dicated that she was sleeping better
at night and that she was compara-
tively free from pain and discomfort.
The official bulletin wa3 the most
favorable issued thus far, and far
from suggesting that the condition of
her royal highness might necessitate
the performance of an. operation, in-
dicated that a stage of convalescence
had been entered upon, with the add-
ed hope that though it would be ne-
cessarily slaw, that it would be un-
interrupted.
Prayers For Recovery,
OTTAWA, Jan. 13.—.Prayers for the
speedy recovery from her illness of
Her Royal Highness the Duchess of
Connaught, were said in all the Ro-
man Catholic churches of the tits
yesterday morning. A circular letter
from Archbishop Gauthier setting
:forth the duty of the faithful to pray
for those in high 'station and snaking
particular reference to her highness;
whore illness had brought to thelevel
of, humanity, was read, and prayers

DANGER FROM. GRIPPE
Lies -in That Cough and Weak,

txrippe, ;pleurisy, ,pneumonia, these
ere greatly to be feared at Chip' time'
of the year.
To prevent grippe: from being fol-
lowed by either pleurisy or pneumo-
' nia, Lt is important to drive, the last'
traces of it out -of the system quickly;.
Our advice le to take Vinol, our
delicious ,cod liver and iron', prepare -
tion without oil, and get your strength
and vitality, back quickly,
Mrs.' A. A. Grabill, of Strasburg,
Va. says: "Grippe left me weak, run
down and with a server° cough, from
which I suffered four years. I tried
different 'remedies, but nothing seemed
to do me any good until I took Vinol,
from which I received great benefit.
My cough is almost entirely gone, and
I am strong and well again, -and I am
glad to recommend, Vinol to others
who suffer 'as I did,"
Try Vinolwith the certainty
that if it doe(not benefit

Dyspepsia
It is -one of the most prevalent troubles
of civilized life, and the poor dyspeptic
cannot even enjoy a mealjwithout distress-
ing after effects, for nearly everything that
enters a weak dyspeptic stomach acts as
an irritant. Burdock Blood Bitters will
regulate the stomach, stimulate secre-
tion of the saliva, and gastric juice to
facilitate digestion, remove acidity, and
tone up the entire system.
Mrs. Dennis Hebert, St. Boniface,
Man., writes:—"I have used Burdock
Blood Bitters, with great success, for
dyspepsia; indigestion and sour stomach.
I was terribly troubled with my stomach
for months, and spent a lot • of money
without getting any relief, until I hap-
pened to see about a woman using it,
and her trouble, seemed the same as
mine. I tried one bottle, and was so
much relieved, I bought five more, and
have taken them, and I now can eat any-
thing I wish."
