On Friday last there passed away at the Mine of her - son, Robert Scotchiner of the Brondjn Line, Stanley, Eleanor Watson, wife of Mr. Alfred Scotchiner of Clinton. Death came unexpectedly-,- as the late Mrs. ,Seotchmer was enoyina very good health until within a cou- ple of weeks of her death when she sustained a stroae of paralysis. This was the second, she having had a slight stroke a couple of years ago. • She was conscious almost to the end, talked rationally to those about her and joined audibly in morning pray- ers the morning previous to her death. The end came quietly, peace- fully and happily ; to her death was but a going home to rest and mad after a life of service for thers. A few weeks ago Miss Daisy, who is the only member of the family now at home, accompanied her brother home to the west on a visit and her father and mother shut up their home in Clinton and went out to visit the members of their Family and other friends in Stanley township, and it was while at her son's home that the final summons came. Miss Daisy weal on her way home when her mo- ther died, The late Mrs. Scotchmer was born at Rosedale, Yorkshire, England, the family coining to this country when she was about five years of ago. They first located at Ottawa but after re- maining there for w Ihort time they came up to HUM higi -actual in -Stanley' township. She was married to her now bereft husband nearly fif- ty years ago: Had She been spared they would have celebrated their gol- den wedding anniversary on February 6th next. It is just about a year ago since Mr. and Mrs. Scotchiner left their farm to a son and moved to Clinton, A family 'of four daughters and five Sons sktrvive : Mrs. Albert Townsend of the Base Line ; Mrs. Win. Heard of Stanley '• Mrs. James Porter of God- erich ; Daisy at home ; John, Rob- ert and William, all of Stanley, Fred, of Tugaske and Alfred of Craik, Sash, Two brothers and two sisters also survive : Rol-,ert Watson of Brucefield John Watson and Mra. Penhale of Stanley, and Mrs. Ward of Egmond- v tile. The late Mrs. Scotchmer was a member of the Church of England and attended St. Paul's church since coming to Clinton, She was a ,qeiet, borne -loving woman, one possessed of much strength of character combined with great gentleness, and she was greatly beloved by her family, who best knew her fine qualities. Much sympathy is felt, for the bereaved husband and family in their sorrow. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from the home of Mr. Ro- bert Scotcluner to Bayfield ceme- tery. Tile services were conducted by the Rev, H. J, Condell. The pall- bearers were four sons and two sous -in-law : Robert, John,' Alfred and Will Scotchmer, William Heard and Albert Townshend. Mr. Alfred Scotchmer arrived from Craik, Sash,, on Tuesday evening, ac- companied by his Sister, Miss Daisy. Owing to their being delayed by the storm the funeral had to be post- poned front Tuesday to Wednesday.
